When I make a denim or military uniform quilt I embroider (e.g name, service dates, year made) on a pocket and sew it on the back of the quilt. I always use 3/8 inch seams. I iron the seams open and glue the opened seams down with washable glue as it will wash out later. I mostly make 6 fi x 8 ft flags. I glue the stars in place also before I sew them down with invisible thread!! Great video by the way!!

Hi musicleeinclined. I have made a quilt using my husbands khakis and his flannel pjs alternating. I used cotton batting and flannel backing. The blanket was much heavier than I expected.

I wasn't sure about batting for the khakis. Jeans definitely wouldn't need it. A flannel backing sounds nice. Mine will be all khakis on the top. My husband's sleep pants seem to last him long than the khakis.

Wonderful! I am so glad I could help out! It looks like Christina Marie has some helpful advice for you too. Glad we can gather together to create our master pieces! You're welcome Rochelle! I have yet to figure out a way to use the front pockets. When using a 3-1/2” binding, do you still use a 1/4” seam when sewing it to the quilt? Do you leave extra batting when squaring up so the binding includes batting inside the binding when you turn it to sew it?

@TamarasJoyDIY
@TamarasJoyDIY 2 года назад
Hi Katherine, welcome! I agree, If you are looking for something with more weight then a nice thick backing would work or a layer of batting between the top and back will also be helpful. I have a tutorial on how I made my jean quilt: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5HeradTWFYQ.html But I would not recommend adding the fabric squares in the mix as they are much thinner and will take away from the weighted feel. Happy Sewing!

How does the shower curtain play in the wash and the dryer?
@TamarasJoyDIY
@TamarasJoyDIY Год назад
Hi Mickey, as long as you use a washable shower curtain it works great. Don't use a plastic shower curtain.
@darleneengebretsen1468
@darleneengebretsen1468 2 месяца назад
I have washed plastic shower curtain liners when they got a little moldy. They do fine on a gentle wash, but putting them in the dryer is dicey. If you dry them on low for only a few minutes , along with towels, then take them out right away, they usually survive and come out clean. But you have to really watch them or they they shrink up, melt, or fall apart. So if you put a plastic liner in your jean quilt, I would only dry the quilt a little bit before I took it out of the dryer. Then I would let the quilt finish air drying outside on a clothesline.
