20 Toys no parent should buy for their kids!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
70s toys were much simpler than the modern toys you know today. Without having much technology available, kids had to entertain themselves with toys made out of simple design. But you’ll be surprised when you learn just how popular some of these gadgets were. From Atari 2600, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, Spirograph, the Mouse Trap Game, Pong, and Mastermind to Weebles, Chatter Telephone, Pick Up Sticks, Stretch Armstrong, and Micronauts, these are some of the most popular 70s toys no kid would want to receive today!
It’s hard to believe modern kids would even play with sticks for a very long time, but Pick Up Sticks were some of the most popular toys of the 70s. The concept of the game was simple, but it demanded complete focus that often resulted in a few tantrums. Wait until you see these 20 toys from the 70s no kid would want to receive today!

I was absolutely addicted to Spirograph. Even when the coloured pens ran out of ink I simply used whatever I could find to create the patterns. It kept me entertained for literally HOURS! I loved it.

I had most of these games when I was a kid in the 70's! Micronauts, Atari 2600, Rubiks's Cube, Merlin, Mouse Trap, Spirograph, Waterfall Ring-Toss. I wanted Stretch Armstrong but my parents wouldn't buy it for me because they thought it was dumb, lol.

My grandkids love to play Hungry Hungry Hippos. They are 4 and 6 years old. They still sell the Spirograph in Walmart and my 6 year old grandson looked at the box and wanted it immediately. He loves to draw. He also has a tablet, laptop, Xbox and PlayStation but creative kids still like to play with things other then tech. As for board games he has a Lightning McQueen game he loves. He also loves to play Go Fish.

1. Atari 2600 - here you REALLY need to handicap for aging. For its time, it was state of the art. 2. The "Rock Em Sock Em Robots" were awesome, and actually come from as early as 1966. 3. Mousetrap - back then, there was a lot of "Rube Goldberg" humor, so people related to it.
@SteveCarras

Yeah, generaitons stil do the reason, there's even a Rube Goldberg game. Hell any one of any age any kid today, shutting a comouter is WOKRING a Rube Goldberg thing--you have to go steps, just to turn it off-very RG like.

If you ask me, I think a good majority of kids would actually be interested in playing some of these toys, especially if they're still able to hold up to this day and they're able to get quickly bored with the newer stuff that has come out in recent years.

List of things you were wrong about 1: rubix cube, people still use them 2: boggle, I still enjoy playing it 3: Rock me sock em robots, I want one 4: Merlin wizard thing, I’m not saying kids would want it but I could figure it out 5: Mousetrap, I don’t enjoy that game on particular but I do still play board games 6: Spirograph, I would enjoy playing with one 7: Mastermind: i dont own a gameset of it but whenever someone has it I enjoy playing it and I’m offended by your calling it “too complicated” 8: Handheld football, I enjoy handheld games so you’re wrong about that. Note, I am a kid so stop saying this incorrect stuff.

Some of these toys are a LOT older than you think. Spirograph was invented in the 1880s - I have a 1908 Sears catalog where they are selling them as the "Wondergraph". And Pick-Up-Sticks? you have to be kidding me. That's been a game in its present form for more than 400 years!

What a snobby video. "Kids today are MUCH too sophisticated for X!" Rubik's Cube, Mastermind, Boggle, D&D, and Spirograph are all still around. The comments below show it. A good toy is a good toy. And D&D is NOT a card game. Also, Pickup Sticks and Rock-em-Sock-em Robots are older than the 1970s. BTW, for Boggle, get the 5x5 version and disallow words of four letters or less. That makes it an adult game.

In one sentence she talks about how kids are "too sophisticated" ..but then turns right round and mentions fidget-spinners. Those things were insanely popular, but I wonder how many fidgety hands would have just as soon been entertained with a yo-yo, kendama, set of battle-tops, or gyroscope. I also found it funny that the many of the "outdated" games were only outdated because they were replaced with electronic versions. OF COURSE a kid isn't going to get excited about getting a Scrabble board game so long as they can play it on their phone...but after 2 days in a winter storm and the phone battery has died, that same kid will be just as happy to get out the analog game because the concept is just as much fun..only a little harder to put in your pocket or play on the train.

My brother and I got the baseball and football games for Christmas under a Christmas tree we had in our bedroom, must have been 1978 or 1979, not sure. Played those games a lot and still have them. They still work too, which is more than I can say for toys being made nowadays. The football game was the dark green one.
@Tom-yd1ur
@Tom-yd1ur 5 лет назад
Yep, I played the baseball game way more than the football. I also had Head to Head football, where one player was offense and one player was defense (screen in middle and buttons at each end), but we usually played taking turns vs the computer because it worked best that way.

What a grating video. Beyond the sickly baby-voice, it's patronising and belittling to all concerned. To the folks that were there originalyl (I was, just about, born '78) it's very "hey, look how rubbish your stuff was", and to younger people it's as equally "hey, look out how rubbish their stuff was" patronising. Truth is, if something is fun it's fun, no matter the age or era. This vid feels desperately like it's trying to 'get down with the kids' but just comes off as embarrassing.

@TheGruffchickJournal

@@Neville60001 as an older person (in my 40s), I think the stuff young people have today is pretty awesome. Is it better than the toys I had in the 70s? Nope. It it worse? Nope. Doesn't matter what toys we all have. It all comes down to what our imagination can do with them. If there's anything negative I can say about today's youth... you all miss out on some independence. You don't have the same liberties I did, mostly because the world seems populated by asshats and overly protective parents now. That's a reflection on society - the young person isn't to blame for it.

My favorite 70's toys were...Star Wars, Tonka trucks, Matchbox, Hot Wheels, Shogun Warriors, Tinker Toys, Linkin' Logs, this spaceship toy called The Starbird Avenger, Big Trak, Monopoly and Candy Land board games, and when I was really young, a slew of different Fisher Price toys. It was most certainly a fun time to be a kid.

This has to be the most snobby and elitist video ever. You'd be surprised at what kids might still like to play. You can play full-sized Rock Em Sock Robots at places likes Dave & Busters.
