You see this people? Flawless 60 FPS 1080p gameplay on hardware that nears a decade old life, yet recent console players are told to be happy with their 30 fps because it's more "cinematic" and less than 1080p resolutions because "it feels more like a movie". Game developers now are putting more money in marketing bullshit than making a good game with good performance, it's shameful.
Racing games are much easier to get to 1080p, 60fps than most other genres. That being said, I really don't understand why Driveclub couldn't reach 60fps.
Paul Smith The Crew also runs at 30FPS on both consoles. That said, we're 8 year later, if racing games can get 1080p 60fps back then, all games should hold true that standard now.
There is no universally correct answer to the "30fps but better graphics" vs. "60fps but worse graphics" question. That's why I believe game developers should give us a choice on consoles, not just PCs. We should be the ones to choose whether we want higher framerate or better graphics.
Haris Agony I think that he meant it's easier to achieve. Racing games for example don't need super sharp textures like fps games, it's not like you're going to stare at trees like Crysis players do.
I really miss the days when video games were not really so serious then now-a-days, games there was not flooded with 16 DLCS in just 2 months, games that weren't overhyped, or even games weren't so scripted, I want those things to come back, but to fit into this generation just doesn't feel right :(
Wow. No 1080p 60 fps content delivery was available around the time of E3 2006 (I think?) I had no idea then that the game was pulling off that feat. It seemed pretty unremarkable back then. Didn't help that so much of the other stuff at the time was pre-rendered bullshit.
short cat The PSX had, at least, a total of 108 games running at 60 fps. I can personally confirm that all the Tekken games I played on the console was running at 60 fps. And this is, most likely, only a minuscule percentage of games running at that frame rate, since approximately 30% of its library consists of NTSC-J games and homebrews that can be difficult to confirm. I bet a lot of these kids' eyes bulged out of their skulls when the heard that this game was 1080p at a rock solid 60fps! The PS3 was a frikkin monster back when it launched.
Derp Man Its price to make was even bigger, $900 for each console, not counting the billions that went into developing the Cell, which is far ahead of it's time, so far ahead that it's too complicated to dev for. It was a beast, but it was chained up due to its complicated architecture.
@@GeneralBulldog54 I totally get your point but personally I'd also like to keep the visuals at "very high" quality (some RT, well animated audience et cetera) which seems impossible (as of right now ^^) at 4k120fps :3 But I think we'd both love to be able to choose so plz implement two graphics modes ^-^
Thank you for the retrospective, helps to frame the recent debates over 1080p 60FPS in an interesting light and places a spotlight on design and QA which is where a lot of the modern title problems I feel actually lay. Hope you folks will do something similar for Xbox and Nintendo consoles!
Beats Driveclub, why won't Evolution studios go back to MotorStorm? That was awesome, and would be even more awesome on the PS4. Then bring Ridge Racer back.
Edward Kenway In my opinion, if a game is somewhat 'fastpaced', then 60fps is basically required, but if a game is more slowpaced, then a locked 30 fps would do just fine.
Thank you for showing Ridge Racer 7 instead of that garbage known as Ridge Racer Unbounded. I really miss these games, and not seeing a release on the PS4 was definitely felt.
The game is sadly not 60fps within Split-Screen mode, but the 720P Ridge Racer 6 on Xbox 360 is. Why don't Namco just re-release this game on PS4 at 1080P and 4-Player Split-Screen support at 60fps. It could easily be done.
Being an updated version of RR6, I thought it would be better in every way but I was wrong. The Split-Screen Multiplayer Framerate is not solid and I think they really need to re-release or make an enhanced port of this with fixed constant 60fps 2-player split-screen. RR6 on Xbox 360 didn't have this problem for the most part except on the harbor level where it would chug once in a while. I still think the best Ridge Racer was RR2 on the PSP. It had the most content from what I know and the most tracks too. So If we could just get a new ridge racer that has all the content from these three games plus more at a rock solid 60fps split-screen multiplayer 1080p experience. I'll buy it in a heartbeat. We don't need to improve the graphics because that will hinder framerate which is way more important. Also, did anyone ever jump the track to a shortcut on the midtown highway level on RR6? I'd love to see more shortcuts that take advantage of the nitrous boost. Also, I want to flip the car like classic Daytona if I fuck up and crash, or do a 360 degree drift. In other words, some physics added to the series would be cool.
Hi, I've recently bought a PS3 and a used copy of RR7 but I can't download any of the DLCs for the game on the Playstation, anyone know any fix to this?
The DLC is still up for grabs, but it depends on the region. If you're in the Americas, your best bet is to search for the DLC items by name such as the DLC music tracks or extra UFRA events. Here are the downloadable music tracks, by the way: Ridge Racer Grip Euphoria Movin' in Circles Eat'em Up! Disco Ball Explorers Valley of the Mind Nitro Mantra I Want You Road Mauler Floodlight Drift Psychosis Trail of Light Ultra Cruise Highway Fusion Acid Eutron #001 Radiance Photon Field Run PAC-MAN Run!
WayStedYou Yeah, but it normally remains at 1920x1080p unless a lot of effects are being shown at once, at least according to DigitalFoundry themselves. It only drops as low as 1280x1080p, and I find it unnoticeable as someone who's finished the entire game minus a few trophies. I wish more games used dynamic framebuffers.
Maxwell Tanner So quake and Arma are exactly the same genres because they're both first person shooters? Also what the fuck are you on about? I couldn't care less if you liked them or not.
