Is it me or did 1992 change Yeltsin? I’ve watched many documentaries on the man…in 91 he was a hero strong and proud, by 96 he was a drunk who needed corruption to win who ended up handing things over to Putin…did his condition worsen that much in a few years?

You have to see he worked in the Soviet government in the 80s and become a pro-democracy activist after the collapse he had to physically build the Soviet economy up to the Russian economy from communism to free market so no wonder he turned to drink and corruption

This is a wild interpretation of events. Calling it a coup by Russian parliament, and not a coup by Yeltsin. Incredible!

I agree. This is an amazing way to twist history and confirm modern bias.

It wasn’t a coup by the Russian parliament or Yeltsin. It was a coup by an organisation of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union known as the State Committee on the State of Emergency. Crucial figures being Gennady Yanaev, Boris Pugo, Dimitri Yazov and Viktor Kryuchkov, the latter two being Minister of Defence and Chairman of the KGB respectively. They were members of the Soviet, not Russian, government and Communist Party and were seeking to reverse Gorbachev’s reforms. Thus, it was not a coup by Yeltsin or the Russian parliament
