good job on making the most out of future scarce diesel...you're spot on about the potatoes, I see too many other gardens/homesteads worry about kale and tomatoes, which while they're tasty, they're not gonna keep you alive in a hard winter, etc. so glad you're finding a way to get the most out of using hydrocarbon calories to plant & harvest. another nice thing some ppl forget with tractors is if you have a PTO on it, you can use it as a diesel generator for the house very efficiently^^ & with the better storage time for it, its easy to see why it's so popular on the farm/homestead...just wish it wasnt so dang expensive now.....awesome video!!

I love this invention! It's perfect! You may want to think of a getting a horse to go with that root harvester! The kids would love to ride as well!

You've been busy with planting and other things no doubt. Nice to see new, and always thought-provoking content from Arkopia Farm! That is an impressive potato innovation Dean. The old harvester looks like a marvelous project too. Lots of good stuff to look forward to! How are you storing your potatoes long term?
@ArkopiaYouTube
@ArkopiaYouTube 2 года назад
I built us a walk-in cooler using a coolbot controller and window air conditioner. They just stay in those stacking trays on there. Carrots and potatoes last us all the way till the next harvest. 👍🏻

Thanks for explaining. I've had an idea simmering on the back burner for awhile for making an air conditioner cooler controller using an Arduino development board, sensors and relays. I didn't know for sure if root crops would keep long enough in that environment though, so thanks for confirming that.

Wow, I see I need to learn to weld, cause I'm guessing these are not on the market =P. This is a game changer, maybe not for industrial growing but for homestead size "perfect". I love the old tech that used to be literally horse powered. This is brilliant. Recently I watched the Veggie Boys with their new potato planter (which is awesome) but probably cost a bazillion dollars and a year of waiting on a list for them.

I had to learn how to weld out of necessity. Big skill game changer for me. The possibilities are now endless. Get yourself an old Lincoln electric stick welder to start. Cheap and works awesome.

Love it great job 👏 might have to copy this if what I’m doing doesn’t pay off .. I’m currently trying something different I get loads of grass cut that’s got bracken in so it’s only good for composting and chucking it 6inches on top Of the potatoes just laying on the ground they’re all growing well so I don’t need to dig the earth also cutting the spuds in half to double the yield it’s a different idea but seems to be working well it doesn’t look as though it will be as good as what your doing there though to be fair love that seat spud furrow and traditional harvester looks pretty effortless for the return

You both embody the true American entrepreneurship and creative genius. Super congrats. P.S. suggestion: think about a funnel with a lever drop-gate, so the manual dropping isn't so tasking on the dropper shoulders and maybe, less tense .

Slick rig. I'm guessing you know Dawn dish soap is grub worm killer. If we plant in the same place as last year, we'll need to use a full dose. Nature is bountiful in opportunity and unforgiving of error.
