2000 Honda Civic EX - Wet Floorboards (FIXED)

There are several reasons why you may have wet floors in your car. With the 1996-2000 Civics, particularly the EX and Si, the sunroof drains can, and usually do eventually cause issues.
A lot of people will tell you to unclog them or whatever, but while I was trying to do just that, I found a separate issue. When I tried blasting compressed air through the drain, I realized that the air was going inside the car instead of outside in the wheel well where it was supposed to.
So this is what I found and how I fixed it. You don't have to take as many panels off as I did, but since issues like this are difficult to figure out, I just tried to make everything as accessible as possible. To get to these hoses, you should only have to remove the lower dash panel (3 screws, also disconnect the wiring harness from your mirror and sunroof controls.) and the panel that fits in the lower corner that your hood latch is surrounded by (snaps into place and is held by 2 plastic anchors).
After taking those off, remove the two bolts holding your hood latch cable in place, and tuck it out of the way, then remove the one bottom bolt to loosen the metal bracket with the black box connected to it. (I don't believe you have to actually disconnect that black box from the bracket like I did.) The hoses should be fairly high up behind that bracket, gently bend it out of the way to access them.
I simply put a hose clamp around the black hose, then reconnected the hoses and tightened the clamp down to hold them in place.
So far so good. Hoping this holds up for the long run.

THANK YOU SSSSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH VERY VERY MUCH MUCH!!!!!!!!!! I have a 2001 Honda Accord Coupe, months ago I had a mechanic clean my moonroof drains because they were clogged as a result my entire cab and trunk was flooded with water from the rain. As a result my radio was shorted out for months, now its finally working again. But the problem is, only and only my driver side was still getting soaked with water every time it rained. After looking through the internet for weeks I just gave up and decided to put a plastic car cover over my car to protect it from the rain, when I saw your video I said "Hold up! Let me see if that's the problem, and what do you know that's exactly what the problem was." and here is my theory, when my mechanic months ago cleaned my moonroof drains that he must have accidently detached the tube and either forgot to plug it back in or he didn't know he accidently unplugged the tubes in the process of cleaning my moon roof drains. THANK YOU!!! You saved me money and another trip to the mechanic!!!!

Bro, you are a lifesaver, my guy. I went to Meineke initially to find the issue and they said it can be a faulty heater core but car heats great and there isn't a coolant smell. I checked the sunroof drain tube on the driver side and that's exactly what it was. It was disconnected. Saved me $700 in labor cost. Thank you homie!!!

Thanks man this is a big help. The rear drains are much easier to access, they're in the trunk. Found that out the hard way :)

I have the same exact problem with my 2000 Civic Si. Driver side only. It’s a mission to get to that little hose. They sure don’t make it easy for us. Hopefully I can manage to get to it and use your remedy. Thanks for the video. It’s the only one I’ve found specific to our cars.

To fix the rear drains in these Hondas you have to remove the B-pillar trim and pull the headliner out or down to access the sunroof and drain hose. Not too difficult but can be a pain in the ass cause the plastic tends to crack/break if you don't pull the right way on it.

Thanks same problem in my EM1, quesiton, does this solves the problem when you find water on the floordboard but the sunroof was closed?
@TheJakePoole
@TheJakePoole 3 года назад
Sorry for replying 10 months later, I'm just now seeing how many people commented... but for anyone else that may be wondering, yes. I rarely use my sunroof, so it almost always stays closed, and never had a leak from the roof itself. Water will get in past the glass, but that's what the drains are for.

Hello Bro, Your video helped me a lot, but did you finally find the rear hoses of the sunroof? , I have the same problem with the trunk, and I think are the hoses also. Thank you
@TheJakePoole
@TheJakePoole 3 года назад
Glad I could help! And I pulled out all the carpet of the trunk, and saw where the hoses were, but they weren't the issue. I made a video for my trunk leak issue as well, check that one out. It's a weird place to leak.
