Bought mine brand new in April of 2000 brand new. Still have it and it's my daily driver. I've not modified anything except replaced the radio (still have the original) and I'm approaching 68,000 miles. It's been a 20 year love affair. Mine is red as well.
To be honest, I get a kick out of seeing practically any vehicle that is 20 years old, or older, that's been well maintained and kept all-original. But as a lifelong Honda fan, seeing this particular car is a real treat. Nice to know that it's been both well enjoyed and well cared for. Thanks for making this video!
Mike A if you are willing to make the drive I have one all oem with 168k miles everything works no wing or lip tho cause someone bought it in a base si version I’m 2nd owner
I am also the very new 2nd owner of a 1999 Si, completely stock. One of the things you didn't touch on was the amazing feel of non-ABS brakes... firm, reactive, and flexible. My car has creeping up on 200K and I'm sure I'll eventually need to do the clutch but beyond that and the cosmetic care I want to do to (polish and repair some paint chips and a couple of quarter-sized dents... it IS a 20 year old car that was used as a commuter car) I plan on doing NOTHING to it. I am driving to work 90 miles round trip 3 or 4 days a week and loving it. The difference in the handling between the 96 EX I had and this car is night and day. Stiffer but very comfortable. I always felt that this suspension and power combination should have been standard in Civics back then. I am happy! Thanks for the vid!
EM1's were NOT prominently featured in the original 2001 Fast and Furious film. The white Civic in the 4 way drag race was an EJ from 1992-1995, as were the three black "Heist Civics". The red car in the 4 way race was a 1996 Integra GS-R. I don't believe there was an EM1 in the movie and if there was it was a background extra. The cars that were "prominantly" featured was the Eclipse, Supra, RX7, Integra, Jetta, and Dodge Charger.
@Anthony Galeano Electron Blue Pearl! Awesome color at the time! I got the red one, and I always received huge compliments. Everyone always tried to race me!
@Anthony Galeano My college roommate had an old Integra GSR! Much better than my Si, but my car was much more rare even at that time. I actually raced an old 90's gen SLK230 and we both topped out at about 120MPH (he might have gone to about 125MPH). Car started redlining and had to back off. To give the SLK230 credit though..... it was faster than my Si (higher top end speed and acceleration).
@Anthony Galeano Both great cars but I didn't like the headlights of the Integra. I only put in a camber kit, H&R coil overs and a simple K&N intake. No performance mods. The mods I had made was a huge mistake because the intake actually made the car less responsive, so I just put the stock one back in. Lowering the car made the car unbearable to ride even on nice streets, with minor improvement over stock handling. At the time, I wish I had enough money to afford a simple stage 1 turbo kit or supercharger! Would've made the car a lot more fun to drive. 160HP but torque was horrible at less than 5K Rpm!
Excellent review! I am in my mid 30's. Have had every sports car under the sun. This was my favorite car in high school. I never got a chance to own one but I am going to look at a 2000 EBP SI that looks really clean for 8k with 100k miles. It has been turbo'd but other than that looks clean and original. Great review it got me pumped for going back to my routes.
Anthony Galeano unfortunately no. All of them I came across were junk. The b16 is almost unbearably slow in todays modern world. I picked up a very clean 8th gen si. This gave me all the “feelings” what I uss to remember an EM1 was like. Even an 8th gen is outdated now and torqueless in todays turbo charged world... I also own a 2020 Si 🤣
when this car show up in NFS underground 2, i just like meet my spirit cars. even this car was only on US, that doesnt stop me to spend more money to buy legend 2000's..and now im 22 yo, and i hope owned this car in my 35 yo... since u sir have this legend, u r legend among the legend boy dream.. thanks for the video sir
Your comment at 2:16 is 100% exactly right. I currently own a 1999 EBP EM1. This is the car I wanted back in high school but couldn't afford it so I went with a different Honda ( A 1988 CRX). FAF1 came out while I was in high school (Class of 2003) and now that I'm a bit older and more established, I've found one for cheap and I'm trying to resto-mod it with parts I wanted back in the day (Minus the body kit stuff). Great video!!
@@importrule Nice! EM1s are legendary especially in EBP. The color was so 🔥 the Prelude had to copy it. 😂 Yeah, some things in the review didn't make sense like EM1s in F&F everywhere?!? The black heist cars were 92-95 Civics! All good though. I'll eventually review mine and do it justice! 👍🏽
Nice. I have a mostly all-original (replaced front fenders, bumper, headlights, stereo, other small things replaced with OEM parts) '99 SiR with around 105k miles on it. Not as good paint on it, though (the doors on mine are a bit more faded from the rest). In my experience, it's a super-reliable car if its kept stock. I've had mine since 2007 and have had to do barely anything to keep it going. With 282k miles on that engine, I'm sure it would get a nice pep boost from an engine rebuild. I plan to keep using mine for years to come and that's something I expect to do with mine at some point.
I actually owned a red 2000 Si. I had bought it for $17,400 back in 2000, and after 2 years of driving it with around 30K miles, I resold it back to Honda for $14,500. Amazing car and resale value. I agree with Jake though on the speed and handling. I drove it from Irvine to SF on PCH and it was really fun. However, the car is actually really slow and has major understeer (almost fell off a cliff)! Car needed LSD like the 2000 Prelude SH.
He talked about the size of the EM1 compared to the new Civics. I have a milano red one. It is small compared to my 97 and 07 Accords. I call my EM1 my go kart. It's just a very nice go kart with a stereo, air, heat, power steering, and cruise.
I’d love to drive one, but not to own. In 1999 they were fast and fun, but you could buy and build a regular EX model to be wayyy better for the price.
Me and brother are building an em1 inspired civic. It’s coming out awesome. We do not butcher and make gross cars. We both work in the field and I come from a long line of Honda cars. I currently own a 08 mugen and my brother owns a eg with a b18c. Sub if you would like to see the cars. You will like it if you like no hype nostalgia Honda. Disclaimer his b18c daily is in rough shape cosmetically however lol.
Looks nice but a 300k mile EM1 doesn’t feel like a 100k and under one. No car does. Check out my EM1’s I had 3! And one exactly like this one! Nice video and good commentary.
Tommy Economides Thank you I appreciate that support and common interest for the cars! I love my old rare mint condition classics! It has been my high and addiction to have something unique that is not easy to find.
Ma Ca I loved this model when it was new. I recently just bought a 2007 SI sedan and I think it’s a better car, much more practical and still a lot of fun!
That’s how I’m feeling too, I drove one recently with a b18c1 engine and it didn’t feel that great, maybe the build was just not that good tho. Still wanna drive one with the b16 tho
More then coinciding with fast and furious movie they where the most stolen civic in the early-mid 2000s because everyone knew they where the only US civics with a stock dual cam engine b16a2(minus the del sols b16a3). So thats the main reason these all have rebuilt/salvaged titles now, unfortunately. Btw not called the Si in all a North America as you mentioned but in Canada they are actually badged SiR. Non the less will always be one of my favorite.
It's tough to find an older Civic Si which hasn't been abused or chopped up. Too many shrimp dickers get their hands on them. I ended up getting a orange 2015 9th Gen coupe with 23K miles. I always wonder how the previous owner drove it. The only consolation was on the Auto Report/Car Fax, he did take it in for proper maintenance periodically. But still, there were things he did like change the headlights to LED and there was some tint on the windows that wasn't taken off, and lowered the suspension. I restored the headlamps back to OEM. I was about to walk away once I heard the previous owner was a "youth", but then after inspection, I thought "How badly can a shrimp dicker fuck up a car with only 23K miles on the odometer?" So far, 3 years later at now with the odometer having a bit over 29K miles (I don't drive much), it's been fine. I have some contempt tho. I wish I continued looking for one with only 3 or 4K miles on it. 23K miles shows it was driven a lot.
I like your car. I have a 99 Civic SI, I'm the only owner of it, I don't drive it all that much, it has about 65k ish miles on it. Mine isn't .... stock though. I put a custom turbo on it which is a T3/T4 .60/.48. Its only pushing 5psi. I could use some new shocks on it though. There's a squeak from the front during compression on the suspension. Not entirely sure where its coming from though. I don't know of many mechanics here in southern Houston.
Lies how do you have a turbo civic if you dont know of any mechanics so that means you dont work on ur car. If you dont work on ur car how do you have a turbo setup
Is that the same car he sold? I may have misunderstood though but if it is I would respect the new owner if it has been sold and not drive it. Even if he hasn’t received payment your word is the contract and bill of sale meanwhile paperwork is transferred. Not cool
still own my r81 milano red going on 10 years strong. I love it. best version is either year, probably the blue, with stock wing, fog lights and much more rare dealer option leather seats and rear lip.
