I have the 98 with 278,000 currently. It runs great, I’m about to drive from Southern California to Idaho and back next week. Not worried at all. Other than the bad mpg it’s a great vehicle.

I have the exact same car. You will never ever want to speed when you drive this LX. You are always relaxed and happy. I haven't got a single speeding ticket in 6 years since I owned this. Incredible in snow and offroad too.

Chris & Chris, The owner Dan gets bonus points for immediately taking this vintage LX to Krown. 🙌🙌People go 'gaga' over these split tailgates but the tailgate on the new Ineos 4X4 is the apotheosis of tailgate design . Today's 70 Series and earlier generations of Land Cruiser also offered a tailgate that would split and carry a spare tire. 🤩🤩

Greets from Russia, Siberia. I have 2001 lx470 from US 🇺🇲, it has 235k miles and still in good condition. AHC is overhauled this year, changed all required details and liquids. Last year changed transmission refurbished. That's most expensive issues for 20+ year vehicle.😊

I am in my 50s and I used to own one of these, so I know exactly what the vehicle has to offer. What is very impressive is how the two of you at your young age can also appreciate what this vehicle has to offer. Despite the high mileage, these vehicles are made almost bulletproof and can easily go up to 500,000 miles without any headaches or major repair.

Have an 01 in this exact spec, just rolled over 200k. I did delete the AHC cause the cold temps in northern MN gave me issues, and it would default to low mode. Normal rust for a midwest vehicle, and have had lots of money dumped into it to keep it going. But I love it so much, just drove a round trip to Toronto and back with no issues and got over 14 mpg on 33s. Hope to keep it for another 200k!

No matter how fancy and tech advanced cars nowadays, they will never be as reliable as these old cars. As my 78’ Datsun 280z proves which still drives solidly after 46 years. Same engine/transmission. Keep them stock and they will serve you endlessly.

Owned one of these for a bit and loved how easy it was to modulate the transmission. Able to easily get it up to highest gear as soon as possible to help get more fuel economy

Had a 2003 V8 4Runner. Sounds even better with a magma flow cat back exhaust (also removes the resonator). Doesn’t drone and sounds fairly normal when cruising. But when you get on the gas it spices up the V8 growl.

I love my 2006 Land Cruiser. VVTI and AHC on the Toyota version is great. The only stuff I wish I had from the Lexus variant is the ML sound system and the slightly better noise dampening. Minnesota car so it’s a bit on the rusty side, but not bad and no frame rot. A lot of people rip out AHC, but I love the system and I’m glad to have it on the Toyota version. I think the 06/07 Land Cruiser with AHC is probably the best version of the 100 series, but it’s much much harder to find one than the corresponding 06/07 LXes. I compromised a bit on condition to get the Toyota badge within my budget.

My favorite aspect about these 4.7 engines is the jumpy torque! Moved from a 470 to a 460 and I notice more high end but I miss the low end! 😂

I love the 100 series LX. seeing this one brings back memories of my dad's old '99 LX. He had the same interior as this but with that goldish beige exterior. he had the chrome badging which I think it's rare but I'm not sure correct me if I'm wrong. he traded it in back in 2018 for a certified 15 LX cause the thing had 130kish miles and the suspension crapped out on him. IDK where it is now since the thing went to an auction in NY after he traded it in. Fun fact if you didn't know the rear windows can be opened automatically for ventilation for the 3rd row

One of the best vehicles made in the early to mid 2000s! Can you do more reviews on cars from the 2000s? I’d like to see a Tahoe/Yukon Denali /Suburban POV. Pontiac GTO from the 2004-2006 time period and the VWs, BMWs, Audis, Mercs, Volvos and LRs from this Era. Man, the early to mid 2000s we had some great cars, 2000-2020 (I believe cars in this time period had the great balance between mechanical supremacy and adequate technology).

I remember that my uncle was the first one to ride it. I remember it when it was new. It was a rocket and the air conditioning was like putting you in Siberia. The sound of the engine was the tune of monsters.

17:39 my friends in high school had a 2005 Toyota Highlander. It had an ECT SNOW button. No PWR and she didn't need it - she was too much of an environmentalist/hippie type. I am surprised VDIM didn't beep at you once - the Highlander had VDIM with a beeper too and my friend found that out once taking an off-ramp a little too fast in the snow. "Beepbeepbeepbeep" and it goes where you point it...

My 2003 has 325K Daily it. I drive 3000-3500 a month for work. Highway. Gonna take it on a 16 hour road trip here in a couple weeks. Plan on getting another one.

My dad has a 2002 LX with about 300k miles. He just got a 2023 GX460 to replace it and I have to say the throttle tuning/setting seems better on the LX than the new GX. Perhaps it’s the transmission gearing or something but I would say the LX feels better to drive than the GX, but the new GX is more comfortable and quieter (then again, it’s 22 years newer).

Cruise control not working on toyota/lexus of that era is pretty common among higher mileage cars. My '98 corolla's cruise control only liked to work on days above about ~10 degrees C

I own a 2004 LX470, and I just rolled 236,000 miles on it. I also removed the AHC suspension for traditional Land Cruiser suspension. I also own a 2015 LX570. Between the two, the 470 drives like a dream. The V8 engine in the 100 series Land Cruiser/LX470 was originally designed by Toyota for Japanese aircraft but was rejected due to its weight. Toyota decided instead to put the engine in the 100 series Land Cruiser. The V8 engine is also the "Million Mile V8 engine."

@TheTopher yes. Don't get me wrong, I love my LX570, but the engine in the LX470 and how it handles feels super smooth when you are driving in the LX470. I always tell everyone I wish could put the engine from the LX470 into the LX570. It's one of those things you need to feel for yourself to understand.

The badges are actually real gold. I had an LS400 with gold badges and the previous owner told me not long after he had bought it new, someone stole the badges off of it and he went back to the dealer to get new ones put on and that’s when he found out they were made out of gold.

This is impressive but not surprising Lexus/toyota are just solid Honda/acura are right there I had a 06 tsx with 224k and it ran great before I traded it and I now have a 11 civic si with 209k it will be 3 years in September and no major issues at all just regular maintenance oil changes new tires etc granted it’s not 290k miles but the way she runs I think she will get there

I have a 2002 Toyota Land Cruiser and really the only thing I hate is the navigation unit, if it dies, you can’t control your AC or heat, sometimes the nav screen is just black for me and I have to restart the car and it comes back on

Own a 2006 lx470. AHC is a nightmare unless you are handy and can service it yourself. Otherwise save yourself the headache, swap the front shocks with the stock LC shocks, torsion bars, and the rear springs, you have to pull 2 fuses and totally disables the AHC system. My AHC needed to be service but couldn't find a mechanic to do it. Ended up deleting it, couldn't be happier, ride quality feels amazing.

One of my favorite SUVs ever made!! I'm currently 19 years old (soon to be 20 in two weeks) and I've been watching some Land Cruiser content and overlanding content for like sometime now, and I love them because of what they can do without leaving you stranded unlike Jeep, and Land Rover. Would love to own a 100 series or maybe a 200 series, but theyre not cheap, but because of that, these can go up in value! I was thinking of owning a 4 Runner, an FJ Cruiser, or maybe a GX since those are kind of more affordable, and I also don't necessarily need an extra 3rd row.
