I saw them 2 weeks ago in Halifax. They were absolutely incredible. Perhaps the best live show I have ever seen and I've seen just about everyone in the last 40 years. As a Canadian, I hate saying this...but the only thing that kept these guys from becoming worldwide, household names was the fact that they were Canadian. It sucks to say.. but it is true.
2021 now, but yeah. It’s taking me back to high school. The feeling of smugness that not only did we all know about how awesome the Seattle bands were, but we also had Sloan, The Tea Party, Headstones, etc.
@@jeffbryant4591 its no surprise their work connected with me and my own stuff given their occult influences. I love finding music that fits perfectly for the characters in my comic. Gives me a lot of unique influences for characterization that way. It took forever to find any songs that I felt perfect for my main antagonist, and then I suddenly come across Interzone Mantras and hear Apathy.
Transmission is another album w a lot of darker themes if that interests you, i did a live edit of the full album earlier this year if u want to check it out
Watching this in 2024...have never stopped listening to The Tea Party since first hearing Fire in the Head, bought the CD The Edges of Twilight in 1995 and became obsessed withe fusion of Led Zeppelin and The Doors style of rock.
Thanks for posting man! Got to see Jeff Martin in an intermit 20 people solo gig in Australia 8 years ago…. After the gig he came to the lobby with a bottle of wine and played requests for an hour.. one of the greatest memories my wife and I will ever have.
@@zane4575 : Buckley had the writing pedigree and guitar chops, and would have been huge if he had survived beyond 1 album. The Cult didn't really get noticed in the states until Rick Rubin got involved. Great band though. Massive Attack? Surprising you never heard of them seeing as you appear to be a fan of early 90's music. They had some cool film clips. Check out Teardrop, Angel, and Unfinished Symphony.
I think this is just another reminder about the phenomenal talent that comes out of Ontario, Canada. Many of us have enjoyed groups like The Tea Party who travel and perform at the many various festivals and celebrations that we attend. I love this band of three brothers.. top notch talent and proud that they hail from my province. 🎸😎
Saw the tea party in whistler, bc. The promoter messed up the show date and so I didn't know when I walked into the club who the band was going to be. I was shocked and blown away. There was a little more than a hundred people for the first set. When they came out to play a 2nd set the word had spread and it was packed very quickly. Awesome show and band
Lost count of how many times I saw these guys live, but it’s around twelve. Honestly, they were great every time. I lived in Australia until a few years ago, and they probably toured there every year from around 1993, to the mid 2000’s. Most recent gig I saw them at was the 20th anniversary of “Edges of Twilight” in Melbourne, where they played the album in its entirety, plus a few old favourites. Great musicians.
I'm a huge fan of the Tea Party since the river came out in 1991 I've seen them 7 times ? 1 of my favorite bands I was 3 ft from Jeff Martin it was pretty cool lol
I was around 15 years old in late 90s and heard them live on much music and was mind blown as I'm a huge the doors and led Zeppelin fan🎶🎸thee perfect amalgamation of the two bands with added Indian instruments etc👏🏼🙏🏽Jeff Martin is talented as hell🎸🎶😎when I first heard that voice I started believing in all that reincarnation stuff and the story about the lucky groupie in Canada when the doors come thru town😆Im not sure how old Jeff is but I'm sure he's a generation x meaning he probably was concieved around late 60s👏🏼🎶🎸I mean for God sake he's Jim Morrison on guitar and pipes & multi instrumentalist💯wtf is in the water in Canada!??we get some great musicians like these guys and rush🎶🎸the tea partys drummer lays down nice beats top notch act👌🏼👍🏼💯🎶🎸
With Splendor Solis, the (supposed) triumph of the Canadian trio around mastermind Jeff Martin began. That should have been the beginning of a great career. Sometimes music is maybe that little bit too original and too good to reach larger audiences. The Tea Party contributed everything it takes to become a piece immortal in the music business for their debut Splendor Solis (I know there was an album before that, however, that contained many songs from the upcoming Splendor Solis). Their influences (not only considered musically) were developed into something very special with the help of many other musical currents. Timelessly beautiful rock music full of creativity without looking at hit parades, commerce or currents and trends. Deeply intrinsically motivated, just there. With classics like "The River", "Fire in the Head", "Dreams of Reason", "The Majestic Song", "Correspondences", which have never been adequately appreciated ... This band could have become really big. From an artistic point of view they were and are they become it too.
I have loved the Tea Party since 90's....but theyve always been a bit cringy with the degree they imitate the Doors and Zeppelin. I mean cmon. Jeff even kind of admits it sometimes. I love their music nonetheless...but i get why the mass idiots dont like them.
Yeh it's funny, as a big fan of The Doors myself, then of The Tea Party, I'm surprised more comparisons aren't made between them. For me there are so many similarities in their styles, look (Jim & Jeff coulda been brothers!), energy, artistic explorations, etc. Perhaps we could happily muse "The Doors were opened and closed then The Tea Party commenced".
Been a fan since I heard them at 16 (or was it 15?) damn, I am getting old haha. I was invited to photograph one of their shows and the moment Jeff Martin gave me the thumbs up on stage, well, that's a core memory folks. This is top three bands for me right here. Always incredible, always inspiring, always trying new styles, yet always still The Tea Party.
Hey... this is good! How come I never heard of the Tea PArty until Road Rash 3d? many of the songs playing here, I never heard them before, and yet, their music style... it's very good.
There is so much good Tea Party music out there in the world. There are so many interesting nooks to their music that it's a joy to keep poking through.
I have had the privilege of seeing them live twice in the 90s and just recently on the TX20 tour. Living in Seattle, we are lucky to get treats like this from north of the border. Thank you Canada!
Thanks you Jeff for the post lots of memories. They are coming back to Montreal early 2021. I can't wait to see them again 10th time or more. They are my best Canadian Band. Only second to TOOL in my heart. I know different styles. You can't compare 2 diamonds. Thanks again great video.
One of my favourite bands . Saw them several times and saw Jeff Martin solo . Always enjoyed these guys . “ Psychopomp “ still a masterpiece , among many others .
Being an American I will only speak for myself and say, I have loved and understood your music from the first time I heard you back in the early 90's. I have followed you ever since, it is the start of March 2023 and I'm sitting here watching this with a smile on my face and your music in my heart. I will ALWAYS LOVE YOUR BAND and more importantly OUR music until the day that I die. Thank you for uploading this beautiful expose' on one hell of an amazing group of "good Canadian boys" who changed music for me forever, THANK YOU TEA PARTY. Much love from Washington state. ~Jonny5🥁
I am not affiliated ditectly with the band but i have met them a bunch of times and they do share my links from time to time. Glad you enjoy my work, the whole channel is ttp stuff so have a look thru it, lots of live and some rare studio and radio performances as well
@@jeffbryant4591 Yeah, your channel is right up my alley brother, I watched some of your live 25th anniversary for transmission, and immediately subscribed to your Channel. All good stuff dude. I'm glad to be a part of your Channel I can't wait to further investigate all of your content and future uploads. Thanks for what your doing for such a great band.👍❤️
@@jonny555ive ive done complete live edits for splendor solis and edges of twilight also, if you liked transmission you should enjoy those as well. For splendor solis i made a 3 part celrbration of tge album w live and demo stuff as well =)
Definitely the best singing voice of the entire bunch from that era of Canadian rock music. Also, the bands 2nd and 3rd albums are absolute classics of rock music in general (though Transmission is a bit polarizing to some), The Edges of Twilight being a perfect album, which is really rare. Every song is amazing. I've seen recent live clips and the voice and playing are still intact, but my word Jeff is full of himself. It's understandable in way. If that voice came out of _my_ head, I too might think I was a God hahaha
A S to a sound that is very different. Tea party has been that. Wondering in 2023 if we'll ever see this fantastic bad pull off something like Heavens Coming Down. Martin even on his own seems to be the lead of this truely unique band with a statement.
Still listening these days, bought a the album transmission not long ago and is great. I also own splendor solis and want the album that's in between both of those.
Love what Jeff says at around 11 mins. Who is bringing other culture's music into their music currently, in the powerful way The Tea Party did? I am unaware of any and would love to hear about any artists who do this....
It's funny, as a big fan of The Doors myself, then of The Tea Party, I'm surprised more comparisons aren't made between them. For me there are so many similarities in their styles, look (Jim & Jeff coulda been brothers!), energy, artistic explorations, etc. Perhaps we could happily muse "The Doors were opened and closed then The Tea Party commenced".
Believe me, there were a lot of those, back in the days! And also with Jimmy Page, as Jeff initial guitar playing was very reminiscent of… Saw them frequently between 1993 and 1995. In small venues and we used to describe Jeff as Jimmy Morrison, son of Page and Jim! 🤟🏽
Steve Towler haha np. i was actually under a similar impression before talking to jm...ran into him on the street in Barrie before a show in 2015 once before the soundcheck and once after...vid is on my channel....he said hi to me the 2nd time before i even saw him there. i guess part of it is the whole rockstar thing...but i hear he is kind of a control freak when it comes to the music. any encounter ive had w him...ive had 4 or 5 over the years...he was very polite and nice....totally the oposite of what i was expecting based off of rumours and interviews =)
