Thank you for this highly informational video. I have a 2002 Toyota Sienna LE (Symphony) that had the same problem in Dec 2018. I took it to a repair shop and they replaced the pulley mechanism with a used one ($240). Plus labor I paid $500. It worked fine. But recently, it will not close or latch fully. It slides back to an open position. I inspected the cable from the outside panel and saw the same problem like you had - the plastic coating of the cable are "crimped". Mine is 18 years old. Not worth spending that much again to get it back to work. You're right. We can still open and close it manually. My kids are grown anyway. Thanks again.
Don’t bother. I didn’t have to remove the interior to get into the motor. Looks like the problem was just on the external cable beneath the small panel. There were lots of ‘wrinkled’ plastic coating that got stuck. I just tried to clean and peel them off as much as I can. Then, I applied some lube on the cable and its contact point. It’s back working! For now. Your posted video gave me an idea of the problem. And the solution. You saved me some $300 at least my friend. Thanks!
Great video, I have a 2001 sienna and may be near the end of the door issue. I will check out the cable to see if I can spray some white lighting grease on it. I honestly love my sienna. Hopefully I can get a few more years out of it until this whole used car overpriced sales goes away
Thank you for your video. So you disconnected the contol module and what speaker you mentioned? Also can you just disconnect the door cable only?. And will the side door open with the remote control? Thks.
YES!!!!! MY 2001Driver door opens...but wont close unless I play with the door back and forth, back and forth, back and forth....I don't care if the remote doesn't work anymore...I just want to be able to open the door!!! im going to take out the motor and cable tomorrow!
EVERYONE VIEWING! Skip to 4:01, he just tells you to disconnect everything for like 24 seconds smh. And he doesn't even show that part thoroughly. Literally the most important steps..
