Dude I really appreciate a walk through on this. I haver never had a full manual valve body or had the chance to drive one. I've always been interested in how to drive one. I understand the shifters have different patterns but the concept is the same. Thanks
Very cool content. Thanks for sharing! Definitely a killer team. Everyone needs a Myer in their team! You guys definitely send these transmissions for sure! Can't wait to see all the rest of what the 05 and 07 do this coming season.
Trans looked real good for the abuse it took!! Thanks for the manual shift tutorial, I'm considering going this direction when I have you guys rebuild my trans.
Josh! Thanks for making the full manual VB tutorial, not sure if I get it more now or if I'm just more confused but I appreciate all your experience and your clear delivery of info. 🤘
Man keep it up! love the channel. Ive learned so much from watching your videos. Currently building a 2006 5.9 and you've made me feel a lot better about doing it haha. All the little tricks and tips are much appreciated. Cant wait for the next video.
Fmvb seemed pretty straight forward but a proper explanation/going thru the gears prior to actually owning one is nice. Anybody else thats done it is super vague and quick about it. I think I still wanna do paddle shifters but the whole switch set up you got there has me intrigued as well.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Myer (sorry if I misspelled it) is a transmission building beast. Very knowledgeable. Love the transmission content.
Not only do you have a fresh spare transmission but you also have the most expensive safety green traffic cone if you should ever need a safety cone while fixing something on the side of the road. Wise decision! LOL Killer video once again and the tutorial on the FMVB was needed. Thanks!
I enjoyed the video and I drove my old 12 like that or some what like that as far as lockup and in my transmission ; Watching your transmission shift and the solid lock up of the convertor was amazing compared to my stock transmission . While towing I for sure would not want locked shifts . You sure build a nice transmission an If I ever have a automatic built for a dodge I certainly give you a call . I decided to go with a g56 on my truck
The full manual I did I put the torque converter lockup on an adjustable boost referenced Hobbs switch so say anytime over 5psi boost it locks if it goes under 5psi it unlocks. It made driving much less busy and never forgot to unlock coming up to a light or if someone cut you off and had to do sudden maneuvers. Again it’s another way you have to get used to driving. At 1300hp we were happy to get 100 sled pull hooks a year before doing a refresh.
As a fuel truck driver, thank you for being considerate of the guy dropping. 🙌 Nothing more sketch than people flying by within feet of thousands of gallons of fuel being transferred.
FMVB is so much fun to drive! My biggest issue is my dad's truck vs mine have the OD and lockup buttons opposite. Makes it fun when we drive each other's stuff lol
I’m waiting on my gts shifter to come in I ordered from PDD, and I’m curious about that nitrous button you have on your shifter. Is that a “mod” I can do to the gts when it comes in? I’d rather have my nitrous on my shifter vs my steering wheel. Love the content man, keep it up!
Watching you guys teardown and rebuild these transmissions are motivating me to do the same on my car. It's all nuts and bolts right? Plus I'm very mechanically inclined!!!!!
Awesome explanation of shifting a fmvb. I own an 03 with a 47re full manual setup with a cheetah scs shifter and seeing someone explain shifting will help others out. Question i have is my truck is actually at a local trans shop getting rebuild because a couple weekends ago i was getting on it pretty good and was in 3rd and hit lockup and twisted the splines on the billet input which was also a tcs unit. Its getting a sonnax 1 piece unit now with a revmax torque converter and the truck is running at right around 500hp on the street tune. The race tune it has is upwards of 600+ which is where the trans lived most of its life before me. Im kind of hesitant now to get on it and lock it like i did lol but the question i have is when getting on it is it better to be locking sooner or later in the shifting? The only thing i hate about my shifter is where the switches are for lockup and OD are and am seriously thinking about going with a setup like yours where its right there and you dont have to mess around. Again thanks for the video
Locking up time doesn’t matter it’s how hard it sucks down the torque during lock up. Generally I do it under load at high rpm to lessen the shock load
Great how to on the full valve body shifting process. Do you have any way to lock out the trans from shifting to overdrive? I have an ‘05 and would like the capability of keeping it in drive for mountain driving where overdrive makes the truck lug. Thanks man and way to go on the 18k on that trans! That’s doing it and keep up the videos!
Good afternoon, a question if you can help me I did the same as you did. I bought the new Rosta connectir 1 power 7 lockout 6 overdrive but the converter lockout doesn't work for me I didn't put a gauge like you did to see how much pressure it is. What do you need for the pressure lockout to engage?
Pretty much the same as my old stang and E36 auto shifters other than the lock up function. The gates a bit different than I am used to, but I am sure will adapt or mod it.
@@horsetorquesdiesel I was asked by firepunk "Option 1 - Auto file keeps the PRNDL on the dash but will require you to have the TV motor plugged in. It doesn't have to be installed onto the VB but it will need to be plugged in or the truck will defuel. Option 2 - Manual file loses the PRNDL on the dash but then you would not be required to have the TV motor plugged in." I want my shift firmness to be based on the how I am driving. I forwarded the email to PDD. I ordered their 1000hp trans with most of the upgrades. Maybe I am over thinking it. I dont want a flopping cable. Not sure if I it will matter but I would like to see PRD21 so I know what gear I am in as I get used to it.
Nice I have 8 full size frictions and steels in the direct 5 full size frictions and steels in forward 10 frictions and steels in the break and normal frictions and steels in over drive
@@horsetorquesdiesel I did it for holding and clutch life all factory clearances the trans is a mut 47 case and shafts 48 drums, converter transgo kit with some sonnax valves I have pics and list of everything at home but I'm out of state working and I could be wrong on 10 but the others I know for sure becase I helped 2 buddys do theirs I built mine 6 years ago. Still going strong not at your hp level but rode hard and heavy and put up wet alot. Send me your email or # and when I get back home I can send you a list
First off I really like the green. I don't have a manual valve body yet, but I have been paying close attention to when the stock setup down shifts to 2nd or 1st. I think the same will apply to the manual setup? Feel free to correct me.
Who doesn’t like this content! I am thankful you take the time to do it. I know it can’t be easy video, edit etc. i have learned a lot just from your channel. So thank you and I now want a manual valve body. Now I have the PDD 650 trans any issue with having a manual valve body in that? Thanks Adrian
@@horsetorquesdiesel So did you build your own manual valve body or did you purchase one? I notice on the pdd website they have a kit 200ish all the way to a 4 speed manual for like 1500$. Then what kind of shifter? Are they all like 800$ 😧. Adrian
@@horsetorquesdiesel Which is preferred a forward or reverse gate style? Is that how shift the gears? Either pulling back to shift or pushing forward to shift.
You mentioned not doing a locked 4-3 down shift. Why is that bad? what about locked 4-3 down shift when decelerating? (I am would like to do it this way, keeping my exahust brake engaged)
Does anybody know if I need an automatic transmission computer if I wanted to swap an automatic into my manual nv5600 truck and do a full manual valve body for it to work? do I still need all the electronics and computers to do that?
Dude, that trans didn't look bad at all for the abuse. Looks like the biggest issue may have been in how the VB was set. Definitely got toasty. But hell, finding the limits seems to be what you're good at! LOL Buy Myer a beer or 6.
Anyone, So, I’ve held off 48 swapping a 2016 Dually, 137k miles. Deleted, no power adders, when I put it in drive the truck jerks, anyone ever had this happen? I’m thinking the 68 life is coming to an end.. PS Josh and Myer you guys are awesome!
Too bad Chrysler couldn't make the darn 68RFE as strong as the 48RE. Not that the 48RE was super strong stock, but at least you could build it to handle power. It's nice to have the 6 gears though.
In your defense but at the same time not minding what I say " too much " It ran better in that short time than Mullet ran as a whole car/team. Insert fanboy hate comments here
A Josh it's me yesse a would it be cool you do a video on how you buy passed your heat exchanger cause I forgot the fittings sizes you put on the block, a that's Mayers new nam babe, or you can call me I know my number is in your system I don't wanna put my number on here if I don't have to thanks 👍
