i agree completely. This wreck always stands out to me as such contrast to Earnhardt's wreck. Tony was for sure hurt i thought, then walks away. 45 minutes later 3 hits the fence and passes away. Such an odd day in motor sport.

If Dale would’ve been in that accident he would’ve survived and probably would’ve clinched that eight championship and maybe even more and he probably would’ve won a few more Daytona 500’s then he would retire from driving and become a full-time car owner

"So, there's a stupid saying that you'll hear around the sport. 'The ones that look really bad are never really bad, and the ones that don't look bad can be bad,'" Petty explains. "Tony's crash looked really bad, right? Stuff flying everywhere. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. That's energy that's leaving. It's going away from me with that junk. It's not going back into my body as a race car driver. And that's the other stupid saying you'll hear. 'It's not how fast you go, it's how fast you stop.' And Tony never really stopped, did he?"

Michael Tarailo Dale’s wreck in ‘01 wasnt even the worst looking wreck he had at Daytona. It was just a matter of perfect circumstances all coming together at the same time that killed him in that wreck.

I was 7 years old at the time. I was so so scared for Tony. That was my favorite driver, I had met him once, and this crash to me look absolutely horrible. They showed him inside the car and he was obviously shaken up. To be honest I really wasn't into this race after that. I had heard Stewart had a concussion and was headed to the infield care Center. When I saw Dale seniors crash later, I literally thought nothing of it. Again I was 7 years old and I knew nothing about how car crashes work or energy dissipating or anything like that. I had seen Dale senior wreck plenty of times before and thought at the time his wreck was no big deal. Sad day for NASCAR in the entire world. I Live 5 minutes from D.E.I and myself and many others left flowers and memorabilia at the gate. I even remembering hugging a man who was like 40 at the time and I was seven and we just sat there and cried. Tbh, I learned ALOT about life and death that week.

That's the way it always seems to work in NASCAR. The most harmless looking wrecks are the ones where people get seriously hurt or killed. The big spectacular ones, the drivers walk away unhurt.
@Bluestorm5
@Bluestorm5 13 лет назад
Dale Earnhardt Sr kind of foreshadowed his death while talking to crew chief during red flag. Dale swear that someone will get killed if NASCAR don't do something. He died 2 hours after saying these words, and we got bunch of new rules and new safety figures.

What was also important was that Tony Stewart was always moving forward even while flipping. The same thing happened several years to him at Talladega.

You gotta remember, he was driving with a broken neck pretty much for a couple years there after his crash in Dega I believe, that really took a toll on him. And he got surgery in the 2000 off season and came back in 01 as "a new man" he claimed. He was ready to go on and win his 8th championship, and I know darn well he could have done it. His age didn't have anything to do with it, he was only 49 years old, that's pretty damn young still. He still had good vision and reflexes.

He contended with Gordon alot, he was very competitive towards the end. Granted, he wasnt the old Dale, but i still think he'd be much more competitive than Mark Martin currently is. He had natural talent, and i dont think age kills that too much.

It probably didn't transmit during the crash due to the force. As evident from the rear deck camera that paused during the crash. Rarely do I see those cameras broadcasting in crashes like that from any motorsport.

@MovieLover1995
@MovieLover1995 6 лет назад
I’m not sure. He probably couldn’t see because of all the smoke and didn’t listen to his spotter. That’s my guess. In his interview with Dick Bergerren during the red flag, he says, “It was really over before it started.” I don’t have any idea what the hell that even means. Maybe it means that whenever a big wreck like that happens, you know you’re gonna be involved it.
