You have to also remove the tiny plastic piece which the solenoid moved. Even though it looks works right after you're done, that little &%$# will move and latch it again. We just had to take the whole seat cover off again and do it over.
I know this is an old video and you probably already figured it out, but for anyone else curious... That solenoid is a seatbelt pre-tensioner. In the event of an accident and the airbags go off, that solenoid is supposed to basically permanently lock the seatbelts, as you saw. As you also saw, it goes bad for whatever reason. I STILL haven't been able to get a straight answer as to why they go bad, but I do have a theory. Since the reel is mounted in the seat in the quad/extended cab models, which we all agree is SO STUPID, I believe that the seat reclining back and forth over it's life either wears out the solenoid itself, or messes with the wiring causing it to trip and thus permanently locking the reel. I'm gonna drop this comment on the Part 1, too, if you don't mind.
Man I hope your right!! The replacement part is- are unobtainium! I thought there was more to it than that, like dash lights that wont shut off and seat belts that wont retract, as in you cant get them on or off. They run thru the #12 fuse, the IOD circuit ie; radio interior light and door switch circuit and should lose power 30 minutes after trucks shut off. If your battery is dead every morning or two, the timer malfunctions and it draws the truck dead frequently. You cant just pull the fuse because it locks the belts without power, unless you replace it every time you want to start the truck. I hope this is a good fix!!
Do you know what causes them to fail? I know it's not the coil because I can get it to pick up if I jump 12 volts to it. I have the same problem, both sides.
both my seat belts wont pull out... is there a way to check voltage to the solenoids and is it tied into the airbag system? I think I have a short in the wiring but don't know where to start.
This prolly won’t get seen but I’ve done all of the steps but it won’t bring it back in and it dosent tension, and when it locks I have to take ot apart and redo it all over again
