Made a short video of my driving on some of my land through the deep snow. Vehicle had no issues expect on the steep grade where i started to slide into the trees (there was gravel under the snow)
compactc9 hell yeah man you are correct my hat I have a 2001 Dodge Durango with a 4.7 Magnum V8 high output what the max towing package with the SLT plus package on it with everything I tell what they the mountains here in Colorado but in the snow it's the best SUV out there
Add a rear locker and even better. I’ve had mine in untouched snow above the kick plates and she never had a problem. Plows right through. Also the KO2S are better in the snow that the coopers.
I bought a 99 Durango for $500 cash 3 years back. So far I have junk yarded the starter. Needed to get a power steering hose replaced and now its back in the shop for tires and a small electrical issue. Its my winter bucket o' bolts best $500 dollar investment to date!
Yeah I think so, The only reason it was slipping in the video was because there are rocks under that snow and its very steep, If you watch the other video I have where there is no snow you will see its so steep the suspension goes into full flex leaving about 2ft of room between the tire and the fender flare.
The white one I had before this could go thru the same amount of snow with the stock wrangler rt/s fairly easily! Idk why people complain about those tires.
Hanz Kranz Yeah it’s a limited slip. To check if the vehicle has it equipped open the glove box and there will be a tag with some information on it. If the tag says “anti-spin” on it anywhere then the vehicle has LSD. Sorry for the late reply, didn’t get any notifications.
clarda1 yeah it's pretty droney. But it always makes me laugh when some kid in my high school parking lot revs their little Honda and then I start my Durango and the ground starts to rumble lol
Why wouldn't it be able to? Lockers, Tires and the Driver are far more important than engine size. My Jeep 5.7L and my other Durango with the 4.7L did better in the snow than this one with the 5.9L!
@@Aqua350Lt1 It makes perfect sense. I was pointing out engine size doesnt matter. Clearly you didnt get that. You know these things called tires? The only thing that makes contact with the ground? Yeah. Those are more important for traction than your engine.
@@clarda1 oh I thought u were saying a 4.7 with the same car tires u know everything the same but engine was better in the snow than the 5.9 so I was confused and no what r tires?
No problem, we got 18.3 inches this weekend. I got out with my 97 GMC z71 and it did fine the first day. The snow was about 7-10 inches. The second day I hit some snow that was unplowed, it was about 15-18 inches. I high centered and as I pull forward I kept sliding and ended up in a ditch. By the end of the day, I got stuck a f150 2010 got stuck, a chevy avalanche got stuck, a 2006 Durango got stuck. 2 guys with Dodge 2500's one was a older probably 1995 model and one was a Big Horn edition Ram went right thru the snow on our road with no problem what so ever.
That sounds a bit more severe than what we have been getting the last couple years. Seems we don't get more than 5-6" every winter, don't get to have my snow fun.
Yeah that's about six and a half or 7 inches of snow not even close to 14, and I'm a die-hard Mopar guy too, but I'll take a Jeep Cherokee sport in the snow any day over a Durango
scottyv68 The weather man said we got 14", I did not go out and measure it. The front of the durango bumper is 9" from the ground, its hitting that. The durango also has more ground clearance than a 2000s Cherokee and also weighs more. Plus the stock durango tire size is better than a stock Cherokee tire size (by far). I would definitely not take a stock Cherokee over a stock durango for snow.
clarda1 I've had both and the Jeep is far more capable in the snow than any Durango even with much less ground clearance not to mention Cherokees have limited slip Rears and Durango's don't
scottyv68 Not true. Check the forums. This durango had a factory limited slip in the rear. So did another one that I had. I stated that in the video Intro. And on the contrary my friends with Cherokees ( stock and modified) would complain about how their Cherokee doesn't feel stable or gets stuck in the snow.
clarda1 you're obviously a young kid who doesn't know any better I've had 4 Durangos and 8 Cherokees, and have been driving for 38 years now, the Cherokees can eat any Durango, and pretty much anything else in the snow, Cherokees are much more sure-footed especially up and down steep grades, Durango's slide all over the place even with a little snow, we got 19 inches of snow in our big storm the past winter, and 24 the year before in a single storm, and both times I had to put the Durango away and use my 2000 Cherokee Sport because the the Durango slides all over the place in the steep hills around here, where the Cherokee goes right up and down without a single problem, oh and did I mention my Cherokee has 435,000 miles on it, sorry dude as I said I'm a die-hard Mopar guy and have owned over 400 Mopars but you can't compare a Durango to a Cherokee in the snow, not a Grand Cherokee, a regular Cherokee, I've had Grand Cherokees too, and they're not good at all in the snow, and none of the above could even come close to my 77 snow Commander Ramcharger, which was the best vehicle ever made in the snow I used to pull tandem dumps out of snow Banks with my Ramcharger and piss all over Chevy s, Fords, and jeeps
Listen guy.. it sounds like you love the Cherokee... and thats fine. You come to my video and tell me your vehicle is better than this vehicle in the snow, your asking for a little bit of an argument. You are the one who compared a Cherokee to a Durango bud, so of course im gonna respond. So you have owned "400 mopars".. thats wonderful. Apparently that doesn't mean you actually know what you are talking about. When you come on here and flat out say the Durango doesn't have limited slip.. and it does.. you immediately discredit yourself. This shows you have a BIAS and did not even watch the intro where I state it has limited slip. You have your experiences, and I have mine. Maybe all my friends dont know how to drive in the snow, or maybe when they say that their Cherokees dont feel sure footed in the snow or get stuck while I keep going its their fault or they are wrong. I have had 3 Durangos my self and my friends have had Grand Cherokees and Cherokees. I know what Im talking about. You however come on here at blatantly tell me things about my vehicle that are not factual. I have also owned a 2008 Grand Cherokee and it was not nearly as good in the snow as any of my Durangos, neither is my 2014 Ram I currently have.
