This video was incredibly helpful. I needed to replace both the blend door and the actuator on my Ford 2001 f150 súper cab and nowhere in the internet I could find a representative video. Most videos showed that it is easy to remove the black air box but in my case I had the floor vents in the way. This was the only video that showed the same problem. Thanks to the video and other folks’ comments here: here was my fix: there is no way to remove the black box (without removing the dash), therefore to remove the broken actuator i had to saw off the old shaft and pulled it out. In order to put the new one in, I cut about 1/4 “ off the new shaft which made a huge difference in buying me clearance to shove the new actuator in. It was all very hard and stressfully but finally made it and the actuator and blend door are functioning. Thanks a lot!
Got it finished under an hour. I avoided the screw driver prying. removed the 2 front 8mm screws, slid a hacksaw blade to cut the rear plastic tab that bolts the actuator in place. Remounted using only the frt. Screws. Being a fabricator, mechanic. I think it should be sufficient enough to hold. I then used the blade to cut the top of the lip of the floor vent duct housing, it helped in removal and install. I also cut a 1/4" off the top of actuator shaft that made it easier to put in. The actuator shaft points up in when in place.
You are a clever person. I went through it on my 96 explorer- and i could get my actuator out (behind glove box). The BLEND DOOR was a b&^ch though. Had to cut into the bottom of the heater core holder to drop it out. Anyway I'm sure you have saved many folks lots of time and $
I live in L.A. CA., and it would be easier and cheaper for me to fly you out here than for me to go thru some DIY frustration or deal with the Ford dealer labor and parts mark up😖 2001 Expedition. Cool video fam👍🏾👍🏾✊🏾
Thanks i have console out i appreciate your video now if i can get motor out without breaking anything they sure do not want this job done by anyone but them i refuse to pay that much money, but i live in atlanta and have to have my ac have a blessed day!
I am having this problem right now except mine is blowing out of the defrost vents only and won’t blow out the other vents . Rear air works , but will stop working at times and blow only hot air , front air will blow cold just isn’t blowing out the correct vents …. I got two small boys and I have to have air blowing !! Help !!! Any ideals ?? Also a female here , I know some about working on cars , but not everything . Hence why I’m here … 😅
Man... I'm almost to that prying that bitch out. Thanks for the video. Good to know I'm not the only one that thinks those other videos are trash. They remove everything and then start recording talking bout this how you fix it.
Hi, I have a 2003 expedition and I changed out the 2 rear actuators by watching one of the guys on YT @FordTechMakuloco and it was worth it as the dealership will do you dirty just because! I'm in the process of changing the front actuator but I need the correct one! Its a semi tough job for us rookies but very worth it when the job is done! Thanks for your input! I'm actually looking for the gears inside the actuator as mine have broken.
