I remember watching this game at a sports bar in Pasadena. You could tell that in 4 months, the Canes, would be in Pasadena with their hands on the big trophy!

Was in serious doubt at the end of the season though. Miami 26, VT 24. Ed Reed's interception stopped a late drive and potential game winning FG by the Hokies.

If neb could get routed and still get there, why couldnt Miaim lose against VT by 1 and still get there. 2001 was a joke regardless of the members that made up that team. 3 of the last 5 games were a joke and WA lost 3 out of there last 4. Only the syrc game was worth mentioning.
This was Penn State’s 1st night game. Opening weekend. Herbstreit called for Penn State to upset Miami. Penn State players were talking shit to Miami before the game. What a big fucking mistake that was...then game started and Miami showed them slow northern boys what speed is about.
This was played 3 days before 9/11. Its shocking how fast life can change. I went from knowing the Canes would win it all on this night, to not even thinking about them for about a month. Sports at least gave us a respite from going to impromptu wakes and funerals that fall. Its still hard to believe.
Game was played on September 1st. Miami hosted Rutgers at home on September 8th. Canes were set to host Washington on September 15th but the game was moved due to the events of 9/11. Game was rescheduled for November 24th when both had an opening and the Canes rolled, 65-7-getting revenge for the loss in Seattle the previous September.
@@robjohnson8861 Easy to believe. Canes were ROBBED of playing for the National championship the year before, as they beat Florida St. who was somehow ranked ahead of them. They wouldve beaten Oklahoma had they played them. They wiped out Penn St. on an emotional night for them. THERE WAS NO WAY THEY WERE NOT WINNING THE TITLE in my esmitation from the day they beat Penn St. None. Can I make that statement clearer to you?

I was making fun of the fact that based on beating a bad rutgers team, it appears you would have bet your wife that Miami was gonna win it all. The two pt win over the Hokies that Ed reed had to seal with an interception very well could have sealed her fate.

Only a week before 9/11 and penn state had to postpone their next game against Virginia until December and had to wait 2 weeks to play again due to 9/11.
Miami fan here. I'd rank 95 Nebraska ahead of USC. In fact, Osbourne would give Nebraska the edge over this Miami team, even though it's slightly more talented. Imo.
@@robjohnson8861 those stats don't say anything about how good those teams were THAT year. While Spurrrier definitely underachieved nationally, his 1995 gators were clearly the 2nd best team in the land.
@@TheWakeup011 You will not, I repeat, will not find another season were 4 big 8 teams finished in the top 10. A horrendous conference for all of its 70+ years, 1995 spoke to how bad the rest of the country was, not to how great the Big 8 was. The stars totally aligned for Osborne that year.
@@robjohnson8861Hey, shit happens, Rob. I still don't think either of those dominant USC teams beats 95 Nebraska. Mind you 93 FSU was considered an all time great team at the time. Nebraska almost beat them and won it all in 94 also. Hell they nearly made the title game in 96 also. That's a lot of cohesion amongst the stars imo.
