Went to this after Kevin harvick just retired. Tragic beginnings that flourished into a hall of fame career.

The intro music you hear is from the soundtrack to Rudy. A story of a young man who had everything in life against him, and somehow accomplished his goals. A fitting song to begin the pre-race dedicated to the memory of Dale Earnhardt the week after his passing.

Then Jr. got in the wall and EVERYBODY in every seat held their breath , waiting for his net to come down, say something to Tony (Eury) on the radio, do SOMETHING - thinking no, NO, history can't have repeated itself a week later....... thankfully he was OK when they got him out of the car, and we now have safer barriers instead of solid unyielding concrete.

interesting watching the discussion about HANS and closed helmets and see 23 years later that those things are almost second nature. Makes you wonder in hindsight why that wasn't implemented sooner

After watching how timid Helton was in the NASCAR press conference the following day, it was refreshing to see Hammond and Darrell so passionate about drivers using it.

Because dale earnhardt wasn’t a wuss. If dale came back from the dead he still wouldn’t wear it. Get a life and realize that crap is nothing and Everyman should have he freedom it’s what dale fought for everyday in nascar. He ripped that crap out of his car. He was a man and not a wuss like you. Heil biden

8:02 @zachhalverson69 Sr. wouldn't have worn the thing unless Nascar forced him..... " it looked like a horse collar" , he said - and wasn't going to wear something unproven, when his biggest fear in the car was fire and he thought he would get trapped by such an invention. After you watch Gary Batson's death at Charlotte- it's extremely difficult- Dale's fear of fire was hard to dismiss.

Most of it just was most drivers didn't want them and turned them down... I think they finally realized it wasn't gonna be a burden on them and their driving and of course has probably saved many lives over the years .. Everyone just hates change and it's understandable until it happens and you grow on it ..

The saddest part is sterling literally didn’t have anything to do with dale crashing. Any experienced driver knows exactly what happened. Yea, Schrader was taking some air. But what broke the camels back was, rusty flew up threw the middle and shoved a ton of air under dales bumper. (Remember these cars have a 3’ bubble or wake off the nose.). So that air lifts dales car up and cancels his downforce (spoiler/fender flares provided 1000lbs & 750-850lb per fender flare). But if you watch rusty Immediately after the race. He pulls in the pits on camera and he’s bragging about “I grunted and shot up in the middle and sent them flying like bowling pins”. Keep in mind he had no idea dale was hurt at this point. - rusty was shooting a documentary so he was hell bent on getting 3rd. Now I’ve literally used the same technique to win races. So I’m not criticizing. I’m simply saying it for poor sterlings sake. It’s sad because most guys in sterlings position wouldn’t have been able to maintain a level head. The way dale was cutting him off.

Obviously you didn't actually watch the race and say what you did. It painfully obvious that Sterling's car touched dales back bummer. I'm not saying that it was Sterlings fault or that there wasn't other factors involved but yes Sterling most definitely touched the 3 car.

Yea but In 2001 we didn’t have the understanding of the aerodynamics of these cars like that.

@DerrickRG did you even actually read what I said. Did I say that Sterling went up and hit dale. No I didn't. I just stated that the 2 cars touched. Read and understand things before running your mouth ok
