@@cherylhulting1301 Agreed, right up there. In terms of comedic but technically incredible skating, does anyone remember the very tall, lanky male figure skater who did such wonderful fun demonstration skates. I think he was from one of the Scandinavian countries?? Circa 1985-ish??
Plushenko is such a legend. He’s one of those champions that made even the hardest moves look like they came to him as easily as breathing. And this funny performance is another level where he sends himself up but still manages to pull off these incredible jumps and spins.
Iconic performance. I remember when it aired ,my family and i could not stop cheering, laughing and being captivated by his show. He is a phenomenal athlete and performer.

Or, am I just imagining seeing something come flying out of the darkness? This is my first time seeing this video & I've watched & re-watched to see it's a flower, (not for that reason alone though, lol,) but really can't tell, his moves are SO smooth. It's been 2 decades and I still remember watching this live on TV with a family friend. The athlete who came second was phenomenal and we were discussing that surely no one could surpass his performance and then Plushenko came and we both speechless

I will never watch a Iceskating tournament. I didn´t like it. But this guy... He showed that he can skate. And he showed that he is crazy. Unbelievable to watch that whitout a smile. That´s an incredible performance.

Wow! This is one of the few times that I'm seeing such performance! It's unique both for the choreography, the execution, the joy that he has, the concentration but at the same time letting loose. Plus, the fact that such choreo came together with the art of figure skating, makes it even more impressive

I have said it many times, and it applies to ladies as well. Enough work can make anybody look good. But you are the only person alive that can make yourself sexy.
You know, that's the most expression I've seen out of him well, ever. I've only seen him in serious competitions where he just does alot of jumps pretty much. And he does them beautifully, but I always said I wanted to see more expression from him. And you could tell he was having a really good time with it.
I think that's because this is an exhibition skate, not a competition. When competing the skaters are restricted as to what music they can choose, and they must display certain elements in their choreography and do a set variety of jumps and spins to comply with the code of points. At exhibition skates they can pretty much just go nuts. Evgeny sure did!

Yep, Plush is 19 here. He had debuted the program when he won his first World Championship in 2001. After skating it as his exhibition for a year, Evgeni knew the effect the program had on skating fans, which is why he's fighting off a laugh and a smirk through most of this, my favorite of his performances of "Sex Bomb." ❤
Вот специально пересмотрела выступление Ягудина и Плющенко и осталась опять при своём мнении--у Жени выступления с таким сносшибательным драйвом/куражом, что просто невозможно смотреть спокойно. Прошло столько времени, а впечатления не угасают. Молодец, Евгений, ты незабываемо и непобедим. КРУТЬ!!!
У Ягудина все только восхищаются и трясут его Зиму и дорожку шагов в Олимпийской программе, а у Евгения десятки сногсшибательных, неповторимых программ и дорожек, которые и современным спортсменам не подвластны сейчас.
@@Ольга-и8з1й это была олимпиада 2002 г. Победил Ягудин, потому что Плющенко упал в короткой программе, Ягудин не падал. Это падение в КП и лишило Евгения первого места. А программа у него была огонь в его харизматичной
i never got to see this and just love the commentary, the perfection of his movements, how he mocked the entire idea of performance and bodybuilding and industry...and then rode right on over it with actual skill. LOVE.
I absolutely love when he performs this one! It's so playful and funny! You can just see the fun side of his personality shine through! How can you not love this performance?
