One of the best SUVS I've driven. Going on 5 years and just got 205k miles on it. It can definitely go over 300k. All I've ever had to do was regular oil changes and just changing brakes. Nothing else!! I love it.
this was when Lexus made an all out assult on Bmw and Mercedes with the LS RX and IS in the late 90s. All stunning vehicles and driveable even today . Lexus make great alternatives to the majors.
I recently bought a 2007 RX350 AWD and it's a beautiful SUV with 87K miles with all the bells and whistles :) very in love with it.. but for some small reason, i love the styling of the RX300 more.. it was definitely ahead of its time when it was first unveiled. Great review though man!
I love these videos on older cars soooo much more than the newer, high end cars. Everyone takes time to appreciate new audis, bmw's, ferrari etc but nobody cares about older, more unique cars like this!
My friend recently saved up enough money (since we're both in college) to buy this model with the AWD package. We took it up to Lake Tahoe in snow and this thing was a boss, not a single problem it couldn't handle with some light to mid off-roading as well.
When I was younger, my cousin's father had one of these. I recall it was a pre-facelifted model with a rather unique purple/blueish color. It was one of the most quietest and soft riding cars in my childhood I can remember.
I’ve always loved 🥰 this first generation RX and the roominess and reliability and everything. Toyota/Lexus definitely gets a 10/10. I see a lot of these around in my area of California
I just bought one from a private owner. 244K and still runs ridiculously smooth. I have to fix the rack and pinion/bushings up front but other than that, the car is in very good condition.
Hello Berryz from Schulenburg, Texas 😊 I know this post is a year old but I pray you still see my question. Anyway do to health issues I think one of these small SUV 's would be good for me. I seen a 2002 Lexus RX 300 with 265 miles witch does not scare me this vehicle is clean in and out side the people want $4,200 I'm gonna offer them less. Do you think it's a good deal?
Love my 01 RX300. It's been through a fender bender and still runs like a champ! (Only wish I didn't have to replace the Radiator afterward...) Just wish I got more than 16mpg average.
158K miles and in mint condition thats incredible i thought it would have like 58k. It wasn't neglected thats for sure! i like these, my aunt has a 2000 and the backseat is very comfortable and roomy. your family's dealer gets ahold of some of the nicest older cars around and when i get another car after i finish school, i might just go all the way down to NC to check them out! I'd check out All City too while I'm at it!
People have no right to criticize this car. This car created the whole luxury SUV segment. Before the lexus rx, there was no such thing as a SUV like that made for luxury and not just 4wd mountain climbing stuff
Transmission problems are major because of the AWD. The lack of proper tire maintenance from tire pressure to buying 5 tires at one time produces ware on the transaxle
I got mines yesterday for $2,000 got 169,000 runs smoothly I love this suv everyone was jealous I don’t got my license but I’m driving by faith till I get my license once I get the hang of it then I will do the test at the dmv pray I will pass my dream cars are challenger and S550 but something about this vehicle I’m in love 😍
The reason that the idle hunted at the beginning, is because the A/C was on. It was the compressor clutch turning on, which creates a drag on the engine, and the car has to offset the load by increasing the idle.
This one didn't have AWD? I thought they had it as standard. Adn to all those worried about the mileage, this ones barely broken in. It'll last at least that much longer if properly maintained. These japanese brands last virtually forever.
My cousin's father used to own one of these in a very unique midnight purple kind of color. It was by far one of the smoothest & comfortable cars I've ever rode in my childhood. Sadly he sold it down the road due to financial issues. If not I can imagine these RX300 will last for 20+ years.
mine is the 1999 model, that means 18 years old and it's running just like how I got it out of the showroom. Only thing you ever need to do is regularly change engine fluids to keep it in such good condition...
@pskittle488 Any car can virtually last forever if you take care of it. People bash chrysler for their lack of longevity, but my dads got a '99 Ram truck with 250k on it, and it runs like new. Its the owner, not the manufacturer, that matters.
are the headlamps hid xenon? if not how is the light colored blue? i just got xenon halogen bulbs put in my car and it shows no blue. is there anything wrong with mine.
Um...the Grand Cherokee Limited had been around years before the RX300 came along. Our 2000 Limited has the same features are the RX and was a few thousand cheaper than the Lexus of the same year.
Exterior- meh. Interior- WOW!! I guess that's the deal with most decade old luxury cars. If you buy a used one, you don't impress anyone until they get in. Still, these can be had fro under $9K with decent mileage. Not a bad deal IMO. Better than the Acura MDX of the same year, which used only hard plastic for the interior and had a DEFECTIVE transmission design.
I saw a similar Lexus right across my job there's a auto repair shop just right across of it and with a large flatbed truck with a burnt up Lexus with no tires on it just all burnt to the crisp I feel sorry for who ever owned that thing I hope the driver wasn't in the car when it exploded cuz I actually walked up to the Lexus and just saw burnt melted dashboard it was just so horrible I hope the driver was okay
I love this car but its pretty girly, has big trouble with the transmission (new one costs $5000) most and its pretty expensive for what kind of year $9000 for a 2000 plus lexus servicing is extremely expensive and if the transmission wasent been replaced your fucked so I don't think its that great of a first car lol
yeah i had my share with those tranny problems. i just recently spent $3000 on a replacement tranny for a 99' rx300. and i have to agree its pretty "femanine" when seen in person. its really bubbly and the visiablity seems to be designed for woman. either way i would still keep the 99' rx300 my parents just got. considering the amount of money put into it and its quailty. BUT the car is going to a femanine driver, so i gaurentee i wont be driving it even to save my life. id rather walk lol
