I don't see what people are complaining about. If you saw the price in the back seat, $7,000 is a steal for a car with that many options. It gets great gas mileage and would be a great daily driver. I'd rather spend 7k on this than a honda civic.
i got mine for 9500 here in NY with 84k miles.....i love my car is has lots of options rides smooth and its a six speed manual (not sure if urs does) but its definitely worth the money because any other options around $10k are garbage.
The Boogeyman I’m considering one too. They are cheap, reliable, very comfortable, fast (especially the 6 speed manual), and really is a forgotten « hot » hatch in my opinion. A pulley upgrade does wonders to one of these!
Mercedes Benz could have give this car an amazing interior but instead they went too cheap. I love the style, the last year of this car is when Mercedes finally did it well
the interior in this example is actually MBTex (fake leather). real leather seating will have ruffled leather on the door panels instead of the flat matching MBTex.

@GTA4Forever: People from the 80s will tend to disagree with you. They'll say the 190 series was the worst Mercedes ever made. Honestly I liked the 190 series, and there was nothing wrong with 230. Just the wrong car for the times..
Hi, I'm planning to buy this car very soon! Is it worth buying this today? I'm a university student and I live in Kuwait and I found this one used but its conditions are very good, it worth about 1600$ where I live. I appreciate if you helped me.
I drive a 2003 C230 Kompressor. It only has 80,000km or about 50,000 miles. Drives great, its compact but with a spacious interior. Way ahead of its time in design. This car is as quick as anyone would ever need. As my first Mercedes, I will definitely be looking at another Benz in the future.
Buster Fulton hey bro I’m to looking to buy my first car and I love mercedes, this car is good for my budget so what do you think? Do you recommend this c230 coupe 2002 or 2003 ?
2003 is faster supposedly. i own one with 52,000 miles. my only problem is the speedometer lights are not nice looking. also, i might have to bring it to mercedes to fix the sunroof because one of the mechanics i go to can't figure it out
This is a 2002 Mercedes C230 kompressor hatchback also called a coupe and for those who don't know compressor is actually German for supercharged at 1:16 it sounded like a four-cylinder at 1:30 look at that exhaust under the hood of this car is the m111 2.3 l supercharged inline 4 this is the first generation of the hatchback called the CL 203 making it the first C-Class hatchback which is also called The Coop at 4:43 it sounded like a 4-cylinder and hear the sound of this supercharged inline 4 it is supercharged so it sounded like a supercharged inline 4-cylinder it has polished aluminum door seals still being an 02 the light for the mirror doesn't work it's kind of burnt and there is the sunroof there is your access to the Bose amplifier it has 16 inch wheels from an r129 SL and this car still has power seeds since it's being an O2 and has equipped with door-mounted side airbags glove box with the original owners manual and your CD changer
Also my sister had one similar to this, except it was a 2005 and it was the Sedan, and it had the 6spd manual transmission, man that thing was a blast to drive! :)
Nothing really special about this CL203 besides the electrical seats. Silver is a very common colour for this vehicle. And black leather seats were the most-selected extra for the interior. There's not even the sports package in this car. The 2,3 litres engine was exchanged in 2003. Then Mercedes used the 1,8 litres engine of the C 200 Kompressor and the C 180 Kompressor models. So this one is a bit more thirsty. So, it's a cool car with mostly common extras. Should be easy to find, especially as C 200 Kompressor. The 230 is a bit rarer. :-)
I have a 2002 c230 kompressor 6 speed manual in candy apple red, and I absolutely love it. incredible to drive on the highway, handles like a dream at high speeds. very quick from 40-110mph, but not as fast off the line before the supercharger is spooled up.
I think it is no doubt a kool technologically advanced car. But how about reliability and maintenance cost??? Is it really as bad as some reviewer on the web say? I have an 02' Acura RSX and I'm very happy with its reliability and maintenance cost, I don't even have to worry about timing belt (it has chain) The Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor Hatchback really caught my eye after knowing its market value is about the same as my Acura or even lower some times. When you got a chance I would appreciate any advice and comments.
I don't have the power seats or the headlamp washers, but so far I'm very pleased with how little attention and maintenance it has needed. I've had mine as an everyday driver (usually driven very hard) for about a year and a half, with about 165k mile on it and have had almost no maintenance cost. I replaced the thermostat and that's about it as far as failing parts goes. It is very expensive to hire a Mercedes dealership to do anything so I suggest learning to change your own oil and perform your own servicing if you don't do so already...all pretty simple stuff
I'm considering this car as a christmas gift to myself this year, but I'm a bit sceptical because I live in Norway. Does anyone know how it handles on snow/ice?
I have a question about this car. How do you adjust your cell phone on the radio? Is there a bluetooth function to link your cell phone and the music on it to the radio?
@Pieguy302 it was Mercedes entry level car. It had the lowest price in their line up and was geared towards younger buyers ages 20-26 who didn't wan't the sedan. It had very basic standards like cloth interior.
I have one of these. They're great cars, love that funky cupholder thing this one has. Mine just has the standard one, but has all the toys and cream leather and is in Jasper Blue! If you want to buy one, buy it. So far It's been fantastic, and you get quite a few looks from people when you drive it as it is pretty unusual at the back haha. The roof is the best though, never really have it closed! We have an AMG M Class as well but still love driving this. And it still looks great even now! :)
because they cut down cost of production therefore quality, the engine on my 98 costs twice as much as the same displacement engine made 2 years later. Also more electrical problems and 2 spark plugs per cylinder adds to cost
