Thank you!!! Your “in retrospect” statement is just what I needed since I was leaning towards the same conclusion based on the typical movement of the engine. ;)

I really appreciate the video. It helped me a lot and saved me a ton of time. FYI for others doing this job: I purchased these same mounts and had the same problem with the transmission mount not threading. I ended up keeping the original because there was no way to install the replacement. ALSO, after only 3 months and 2500 miles of normal road driving, the upper side mount failed. The seller sent me a replacement (I paid the shipping). I hope that it lasts longer than the first one I received. Overall, I'm not very pleased with the quality of these mounts (two out of six failed). I don't know if there are any other non-OEM mount kits that are worth considering, though.

Thanks Bobby! Glad it helped you. Interesting how you had the same issues I did with the front lower trans mount threads and the right side mount failing. The video came out much later as I installed these in August of 2019 and over 1 1/2+ years later the current set up is holding up good enough. At 1/3 the cost of OEM on a 150K mile DD, they were worth a try.

many years ago, I resolved that saving the cost of maintenance did not mean I had to use eBay parts, quite the opposite! Do it once do it right: free labor makes up for premium OEM parts. Best tires are Continental, Michelins tend to chunk rubber after 3 years (I had 4 complete sets that turned junk on me, 16 tires) 😉

Honda should have made some stronger transmission mounts for the v6. Way too much power for those anemic little mounts.
@mendivil71

In the video the first mount you removed didn't look damage but the front lower engine mount and the pass side engine mount have definitely failed and in my experience as a Honda tech those are the two most common parts that require replacement.
@galco9836

Agree those are the ones that fail most often and are the easiest to replace.

@Jay Dee As long as they are a trusted seller and you can return the parts if there's an issue I don't see a problem if you bought them off of ebay.
@mendivil71
@mendivil71 3 года назад
@Jay Dee these are important parts that are going on your vehicle and it's pretty important that you torque them down with some things you can get away with but on these parts I would recommend torquing them. You can buy an inexpensive torque wrench at Harbor Freight

Question my upper transmission mount didn't have the stopper plate can it go without?
@galco9836
@galco9836 3 года назад
The mount alone may not be enough. I would try to find a stopper plate if it were my car. Even if used at a good price its better than none, IMO. Good luck.

Do those mounts also fit the 2.4l engine ?
@galco9836

No these are for the V6 3.0L engine. There are however mounts available for the 2.4L. Try Rockauto.com; CarParts.com or other sources.

Do you have to have a jack to change the upper transmission mount only?
@galco9836
@galco9836 2 года назад
as I recall you don't have to support the trans to remove the top trans mount, as long as the bottom trans mounts haven't failed and are still holding up the trans. You will be much happier though if you remove the battery and the battery tray, access is soooo much easier. The 2 bolts underneath the battery tray only need to be loosened and not removed, then pull tray up. Don't forget to have your radio code ready before disconnecting the battery!

How much would labor cost to replace all 3 transmission mounts at a shop?
@galco9836
@galco9836 2 года назад
Sorry, I am not sure as I am a do it yourself kind of guy. Suggest you ask for a quote from a couple of shops. My guess, and that's all it is, it would somewhere between $200-$400 depending on local hourly rates.

why not tell the size of the bottom bolts of the transmission
@galco9836

@galco9836
@galco9836 10 месяцев назад
@@youreanoob6336 Not sure, sorry. I used the original bolts without issue. Suggest you check a Honda parts online website as they likely list the specs of the bolts if you wish to replace them. I would also suggest using Honda supplied hardware although not entirely necessary, i.e. replace with stainless bolt from local hardware store. Your call.

Would you use anti seize or thread locker to bolt them in?
@galco9836
@galco9836 Год назад
Maybe anti seize if the car is the rust belt or where use of salt on roads in winter and original fasteners were corroded. Then yes. No thread locker recommended, just tighten.

Hi Galco, how are those aftermarket mounts holding up? I'm thinking about replacing transmission mounts, the price difference between OEM and aftermarket is too much to ignore.
@galco9836
@galco9836 Год назад
Hi JM, the trans mounts were not that good from this vendor. I would recommend checking with online site like RockAuto.com for other brands like DEA. There are several options at very reasonably priced IMO. Good luck and if you find a good solution, please post it here.
@epipolarus
@epipolarus Год назад
@@galco9836 I watched your video about a dozen times before replacing the 3 engine mounts. It's so helpful to know things to expect before starting the repair. My car is a 2007 Accord V6 at 170K miles. The mount failure pattern is EXACTLY the same as yours: (1) Front is in the worst shape; (2) Side is bad; (3) Rear is still "perfect"; (4) Upper transmission mount is torn at the same spot; (5) Rear lower transmission mount is 1/2 torn at the same spot; (6) Front lower transmission mount is still "perfect". I'm thinking about keeping the original front lower mount, and only replace the upper and rear lower. My questions are: is the aftermarket upper transmission mount any good? for how long? OEM $70 for that piece rubber is kind of expensive. is the aftermarket rear lower mount still good? If both of yours already failed, then OEM is probably the only way to go, because from experience, OEM seems superior for anything made of rubber.
@galco9836
@galco9836 Год назад
@@epipolarus The mounts seem to be holding up OK. If you have the funds and plan to drive that car another 170K miles, OEM is the way to go. If not, I would go with a better aftermarket brand like DEA, etc. Just my 2 cents.

Thank u for your reply I did it how u said now I am doing the bottom two question when u are breaking loose the bolts from the bottom through the 4 holes do u fully remove the nut from the bolt and then jack and remove the other two from the driver side or do u just break loose and leave the bolts attached then jack and then remove the bolts from driver side ?
@galco9836

@@danielurrea9091Remove the 4 trans mount nuts from underneath the car first. Then support and raise the transmission with a jack, see video for details. Then pull driver side wheel and remove transmission mount bolts. Video shows location. Adjust height of transmission to lift the mounts out and replace. Reverse order to install.
