The best video to teach how to change a steering wheel. Clear explanation steps by steps. No time-wasting bullshit like other videos. Thank you for the video!

Thanks very much for the tip on the T30 torx and about the collar on those screws, and the close up video shot on the connectors! LOVED that you shared your "bang-up" steering wheel removal trick, too cool!!!!!!! This is an excellent tutorial, even if it went off into Rav4 fitment issues I didn't understand, but I found a huge amount of information relevant to my intended project, which is try to find out if a binding clock spring is why I hear a twanging sound in steering wheel area when turning it.

I have never known that you can pull a steering wheel off like that, so much for the Steering wheel puller! Thanks for the tip

Yes, it depends on the model, but this works on many Toyotas. It is always nice to have a steering wheel puller on hand, but this works too! Good luck : )

I’m changing the clock spring in my Pontiac Vibe. Last night I was wondering if I was the only person who had trouble with the torx bolts hanging up in there. In all the other videos I’d seen people just breezed through that w/o mentioning that the screws might need some added encouragement to get out of the way. I didn’t know what I was pushing around inside so I gave up until I saw this this morning. Thank you!👍🏻

I'm so glad it helped! Yes, what you described has happened to me a few times, too, which is why I wanted to show how those special Torx screws work. Its very common for them to get sideways and whatnot and then you can't pull the airbag out and its very frustrating (as you know!). Thanks for your comment, and good luck!

Thanks so much for making this video. It’s dope to see other female mechanics putting themselves out there. I am making a makeshift puller set as we speak! Need to get this clock spring replaced now that I commute in the Bay Area. People drive like wild mongooses.

2003 Corolla,I need to replace my cruise control switch.It looks like there is an electrical connector and two screws that hold it in place,I can see it in your video.Can you please verify if all I need to do is remove the airbag and then just remove and replace my defective cruise control switch,which causes the cruise control to randomly shut off on the highway.Thanks!-DW
@L35inColorado
@L35inColorado 3 года назад
Yes, if you're just replacing the cruise control lever, you can disconnect the lever electrical after removing the airbag (you probably don't even need to disconnect the electrical for the airbag, because there is some slack). You don't need to remove the entire steering wheel. You can see the cruise control electrical at about 03:41. Then, you just have a couple of Phillips head screws to remove and you should be able to wiggle the cruise control lever out (pull it inward towards the electrical connection, then up and out. Good luck!

my steering wheel is a little off instead of being straight is it because the wheel isn’t on correctly?
@L35inColorado
@L35inColorado 2 года назад
Even when the steering wheel is on correctly, it is never quite perfectly centered. If the steering wheel is noticeably off center, it is most likely due to an incorrect alignment (toe alignment) at the front wheels. I hope that helps!
@Barneyfithlawman
@Barneyfithlawman 4 года назад
So I locked the steering wheel, and made the marks but when I put the steering wheel back on it's off center?
@L35inColorado
@L35inColorado 4 года назад
In that case, you're just off a tooth. Remove it again and just move it one tooth in the direction needed to straighten it out. Good luck!

No I mean I think I must’ve broken the ribbon in the clockspring because I get airbag light on the dash, I believe I broke it when I had the steering rack / sub assembly off and was trying to find the center of the steering wheel by turning it to the end (spoiler alert) it doesn’t clunk when the rack is disconnected lol.. so I must’ve stretched the ribbon and broke a connection..
@L35inColorado
@L35inColorado 4 года назад
@@WPXTacoMan477 Ah man! Can you get one from a local junkyard? The Corolla clocksprings are the same part (84306-02110) for the '03 to '08 Corollas and Matrix. I'm sorry that happened, but thanks for sharing so that other people can learn.
@WPXTacoMan477
@WPXTacoMan477 4 года назад
L35 in Colorado I actually ended up taking it apart and repairing the ribbon where it crimped up.. I verified the certain kink was where the break in connection was by using a multimeter. I took a razor and slightly scraped the insulation away from the ribbon on either side of the kink. I then checked the resistance on each wire and then tested from the connector pins of both sides to make sure that was the only location of break. Then I cut out the kink portion, a little more than an inch of ribbon, then soldered the ribbon back to itself and put some silicone to insulate the open connections, just for extra safety. Hopefully my airbag never goes off. The airbag light went out and my power steering works again ! Yay
