This was an outstanding video. To the point. No BS. Great explanation. It’s exactly how the repair manual said to do it. But it helped having the visual. I then went and put one in my 02 in about 45 seconds. Fixed my brake lights staying on.
So that little lever adjusts the length of the plunger internally. Its holding a clamp open. When you turn it it closes the clamp around the plunger at the set height and releases the actual spring loaded actuator inside. It can be reset easy. Just don't let the spring fly out. Don't ask why I had to figure that out.
I kind of forgot. But I think you can pop it open with a screw driver and the open that metal clamp and reset the lever again in it's original position easy. BUT Nothing is supporting that spring from flying out with small parts when the cover is off or something so don't let that happen because then it will be annoying to put back together.
Thanks for sharing this video I hope that this fixes the problem I've replaced the fuse, the bulbs and the left side circuit board the only light that comes on is the rear hazard light. So hopefully this will fix the problem.
The title should read "The absurd complexity of modern auto engineering and how manufacturers ensure service department profit." I just replaced one of these things because the lights wouldn't turn off and it was blazing hot to the touch. Cracked open the old one to see what's inside. Whoever designed it should be chopping rocks in Siberia.
This was helpful when I changed the brake booster I accidentally pulled the brake pedal back slightly and this must have over adjusted the switch causing the switch to not make contact with the brake pedal and thus the brake light would stay on. A temporary fix was to use electrical tape over some cardboard to build up the pedal a tiny bit.
I think my truck might have the same problem. The plunger doesn't travel much at all when I push on the pedal, is it supposed to follow it all the way?
Will this cause my ebrake light and abs to both be illuminated? My cruise works, my brake lights work and my speedo works okay. I've already replaced the sensor in the rear diff suggested by another member. Still no fix. Only thing I know to do is the driver side front wheel sensor, brake pedal sensor or the sensor that's in the transmission. It's driving me insane. 06 Ram 1500 4x4
Hi. I have a question for you. I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 and when I turn on the truck the rear break lights come on and stay on. Do you have an ideal what might cause this? Thanks
I have a 2004 ram and my lights all are working when I turn the light switch on, even my blinkers . But when I press on my brakes the reverse lights come on any suggestions?
Ok so to make it clear , the left and right brake light not coming on is due to the front control module ? And quick info all my lights bulbs work just when I press the brakes lights don't illuminate
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 that I pulled the dash to repair a leaky AC evaporator behind the dash. I had to disconnect the stop light switch to pull the dash. After installing the new brake switch my ABS and Brake warning lights are on. They weren't on with the old switch, just now are on with the new switch. I followed the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer. My thoughts are a defective brake light switch. Is there something else I should be looking into? Thank You in advance.
The brake light switch that u took out is that for the light being on on the dash not the ABS correct cuz that's what's going on on my Dodge. ABS light is not on just brake light well that fix the problem
I changed my switch my brake likes still not working the lights are on but when I apply the brakes they don't get brighter the bulbs are good the fuse are good any idea??
I also have the same issue. Just noticed it the other day. Tail lights are on but when I step on the brake pedal they don't go any brighter. The "third" brake light(the one on the top back of the cab) works when I use the brake pedal. Just the left and right brake lights won't go bright. All the bulbs are in working order... I have not tried changing the brake pedal switch yet. If anyone has any info please respond
I found out what it was it was a wire under the underneath the chassis that was stripped how to take it to a mechanic that knows about electrical and 2 Days Later you found out the problem took him a while and $450 out of my pocket 😡dam wires he even showed me which one it was
This is great insight. Thanks. I’m having a slightly different issue it seems. My passenger side tail light does not illuminate when the lights are in the on position. When I apply the brake, the brake light does not illuminate. When the lights are in the off position, and I apply the brake, the brake light illuminates. I changed all the bulbs, I changed the light bulb harness, but to no avail. I’ll track down the fuse and try that next. Any insight would be hella helpful. Thanks!!
check your ground wire and then check your circut board with a test light another way is to take the board from the other side and switch it to the side that doesn't work. if they work after you do that, you know it's a bad board.
having the same problem. Both front and rear turn signal light didn’t work. I replaced the rear circuit board at auto zone like $20 with tax. The rear turn signal works but it hyper flashes now. Front still doesn’t work. But then I put in the ob scanner to see if I have any codes. And just said about my front right turn signal. I just cleared it and now they both work fine. After that my brake lights don’t work. They turn on but when I press the brake nothing happens. I’m very confused
have a 2001 Dodge ram 1500, my brake lights just went out, i replaced the fuses and the bulbs and the blinker assembly , but still no brake lights , i was told it might be a junction box under the truck? but i have no clue should i try this first?
My brake lights in my 02 2500 will occasionally turn on and off while the truck is off,not running. Enough to kill my battery in less then a week. Any ideas?
Hey what's up!?!! 2000 dodge ram 1500 van. 78,700 miles. Got brake lights at night with headlights on but only brake light that works during the day is the hightop light. Any ideas? Thanks!
I see your question is 2 weeks old....but yes, the brake light switch going bad can make it hard to get out of park and cause your cruise control to not work.
I replaced the tail lamp circuit boards and it fixed my problem. Apparently moisture getting in the housing and causing a problem is pretty common on these vehicles
@joeyride58 the circuit board is the part that the bulb actually sits in . When i dud my replacement the part costed 11 bucks from autozone , and i havent had any issues since
On my 2003 ram only the left brake light stopped working. I replaced the bulb with the correct bulb and it still doesn't work. I checked the fuse and it's not blown. My first thought was I have a broken wire on the left side. What would be your thoughts on this. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
1999 dodge durango I replaced my brake light switch and my brake lights are still stuck on only when I have the headlights on when I have the headlights off I have no brake lights at all what's up with that
I have a 2007 dodge ram 1500 and can't figure out why my right read brake light does not work...no turn signal no running or brake lights rest work. 🤔 which fuse would that be to check?I have also check the bulbs and they seem fine
