This match in the semi-finals of the 2003 FIRST Championships shows the awesomeness that was StangPS. Their initial 15 seconds was all autonomous, taught by waypoints. This set the autonomous standard in FIRST.
@gope23 In 2001 they also had a unique design, in fact it was sort of a precursor to this robot. It was a ramp bot that could manipulate the bridge in any direction. They couldn't put up big scores on their own so they didn't do well in qualifying, but they were a great addition to any alliance which is why they were our first pick at nationals (first pick overall in the division). Our alliance made it to the finals on Einstein so that was pretty successful too.
The robot was great of course, but as a programmer I was most interested in their amazing autonomous. The BASIC stamp processor in the RC was poorly suited to complex automodes, so 111 created their own external board that contained their own more powerful processor. Their system inspired me to learn how to do the same, though fortunately FIRST upgraded the RCs to the PIC18s the next year so there wasn't such a critical need for an external processor.
