@@josecarranza7555 not sure how the Detroit rosters would have changed from 2003-2005 in that alternate universe but he would of been an incredible asset to that team. He would not of been an iso scorer on that team like how he developed on the nuggets. Could of even been an insane 6th man for that gritty pistons championship team. Still would of been a hall of famer most likely just too offensively gifted
People forget how some thought Melo should have been rookie of the year that year. I would put it this way, Darko did nothing for the pistons championship run that year or the years after. Melo would have help pistons go 4-0 against the Lakers. He was that good as a rookie. They probably would have beaten the Spurs the next year. That series went 7 and was a hard fought one and pistons had a few games where they didn't get over like 75 points. Pistons had a great D but struggled on offense. With Melo that wouldn't had happen as often. For sure 6th man off the bench probably his first 2 years.
@@MakeUDawn oh I think they did. Maybe not against worse teams, but they did against teams like pacers, spurs, heat and Cavs. I think melo changes the tide and they probably come home with at least one more chip. They had stretches in games where they couldn't buy a bucket. Melo fixes that to some extent.
Lebron James 24:10 Darko Milicic 29:40 Carmelo Anthony 34:50 Chris Bosh 40:25 Dwyane Wade 44:08 Chris Kaman 49:34 Kirk Hinrich 53:56 TJ Ford 58:22 Michael Sweetney 1:02:04 Jarvis Hayes 1:05:48
@@night6724 literally said the nuggets couldn’t win more than 20 games their past 3 seasons and melo took them to the playoffs his ROOKIE year while averaging over 21 points and 6 boards while starting every game. Possibly the greatest rookie season of all time but it’s overshadowed by lebrons hype when he didn’t improve the cavs much at ALL
As a Pistons fan this has to be one of the worst moments in franchise history. We pick Darko ahead of Melo, Wade, and Bosh. Then we go on to win the 04 championship. Just think how many more Rings the Pistons would've got with those other guys.
Why did your piston never give Darko a shot to even play was he that bad that he only deserved to play 6 minutes a game back then. Never really watched him play.
People keep ignoring the fact that drafting Melo likely means they would have never traded for Rasheed Wallace. And without Rasheed, that Pistons team wasn't a historically great defense. Yeah sure, draft Melo, but then your defense never pans out to be as elite as it could have been.
2 of them got in their way in 06 and 07 and they almost repeated without them in 05 lol...got to a game 7 of the finals without a 2005 d wade who was a top 8 player in the league and melo was like top 16 lol
Nick Jasper Yep. Detroit would have definitely won back to back Championships in 2004 & 2005 instead of losing to the Spurs in 2005. Plus they probably would have made it back to the Finals in 2007
He also said that T.J. Ford was more "special" than Lebron. He said he didn't want to hear about Lebron, that people were talking too much about his body and that this was basketball, not track. So yeah... Wouldn't talk about how prescient he was. I could have told you Darko was a bad pick.
eatcheesekobe I'm a Pistons fan and i can care less that Dumars passed on Melo or Wade because both of them would have the same fate as Darko considering the fact that Brown absolutely HATED subbing in rookies. So his fate would been the same as Darko as a benchwarmer. Also we won the finals the following year so i'm not mad lol.
pistons, not pistons fans. as in the organization, because they passed on a future HoF for darko (although the fans should be pissed too that their head office made such a decision). and since you mentioned it, who's to say they wouldn't have won more if they had made a better pick? melo at the 4 with sheed at the 5 after they traded big ben wouldve worked out pretty good, or bosh for that matter. even wade couldve worked out with them having prince as a versatile forward who can play multiple positions. if i remember correctly, they lost in the finals, then conference finals over and over again the few following years. who's to say wade, bosh, or anthony couldn't have helped them over the top? and just for that, the organization would be mad for years.
eatcheesekobe I doubt the organization is beating themselves up for something that happened almost 13 years ago. There was no need for melo, we had prince who was drafted the pervious year at SF an he was peeking as a potential star. Big Ben was great back then when he had won the defensive player of the Year. I agree that wade or melo would have been a great asset to us, but look at the denver when they had melo, they were always 3rd round exists. I think pistons kept loosing in the playoffs because of lack of leadership and lebron who was great back then.
melo lost because he had no one around him. an immature jr smith, anthony carter and a 5'5 boykins as your point guard, and he carried them to playoffs his first year, on the west too. yea ben was good, but he was traded what, 05? he gave like 3 good solid years, maybe 4, that's nothing compared to what any of the 3 picks would've given the pistons in the next 10 years after the draft
makomaro Maybe now with Wade injured..., but prime Wade is way better than Melo , Wade has 3 rings, and has a finals MVP. Melo was never in the Finals, wade's best season is better than Melo's best season,Wade is the 3rd best sg all time ,Melo is a nobody that still has to prove himself in the playoffs So yes wade is the second best player of the draft
makomaro Nope wade is better individually also,go look up the stats boy Wade has the best finals performance in history in 06'. even better than Jordan, not to mention that prime Wade would wipe the floor with Melo. Wade's best season>Melo's best season Wade's best playoff performance>Melo's best performance
makomaro Pff Wade was also cheated out in 09' and his season was way better than Melo,I dont know why Im arguing with you, everybody knows that Wade is better than Melo, you obviosly dont know much about the NBA so I will stop responding
@@NewEraNoah absolutely, and he was great for my Raptors after his run and first big injury with the Bucks. He and Bosh helped lead the Raptors to their first ever division title. Then yet another injury against Al Horford and he was never the same. Guy was a baller
yup, the culture has really changed for the worse. Gotta have people freakin out and causing drama cause thats what the people want to see... not me at least
People call Sam Bowie a bust. Bowie had a nice and long NBA career. And even turned down a contract with the Lakers when he retired. And Bowie didn't turn out an All Star ONLY because he broke his leg. Darko just SUCKED. Biggest draft bust in history. Bowie would have been All NBA if healthy.
Good to read smart comments bro, you are absolutely right, people don't know what they are talking about when they qualify Bowie as a bust, Sam Bowie just got hurt....
Milorad Cukavac I understand where u coming from bro, you probably have ties with Darko, because if you would not have any ties you would admit that he SUCKS nba speaking.... Sorry
François Mérieux its not that he sucks. He had a point where in 10 games he was averaging 25 points once. Its just that he didnt care about basketball. He never went to practice etc. He didnt give a fuck. He stopped playing bball and now does kickboxing
I feel you bro, but by you saying that he didn't care about basketball as an NBA player you're proving my point.... NBA is too great for even talented players not being focus...and those end up out of the league... But you are right on the money when you say he didn't care enough, because i have to admit that talent and skills weren't the issue with Darko, it was just the lack of interrest because he had the potential to be great.... Like so many....
@@spreadthevegemite8064 cleveland incompetent management wasted 7 years of his career. they never built a championship caliber team around him, so he had to take matters into his own hands
@@spreadthevegemite8064 Many players may love their team because they got drafted by that team, but you're not going to stay there if things don't work anymore. LeBron left Cleveland because the wasn't the same as before especially after Kyrie left, look at Damian Lillard, he has always been loyal to his team but now he is thinking about leaving.
16:03-16:35 this fucking guy say Darko is a freak and he is going to be great and he will been the first round pick in the next ten years and be the first round pick in the last ten years and he is better than everyone else in the draft except from Lebron James. This fucking guy sucks
I bet most people came to this video to watch LeBron get drafted, but I came to see what people thought about Darko Millicic back when he was drafted. He must have been an amazing prospect to be taken ahead of Carmelo.
The thing is, Detroit didn't need Carmelo or Wade. They were stacked with SG's and SF's. What they needed was size. Turns out they went out and got Rasheed Wallace and won the NBA Championship in Darko's rookie season. Detroit was consistently one of the top teams in the NBA for the next about 5 years.
I feel like Darko was ahead of his time. He gives off those modern big man vibes. All that pressure from being selected that high in the draft and being forced to always play in the post definitely hurt his potential
+Daniel Shelton The 84' draft gave us Olajuwon, MJ, Perkins, Barkley, Stockton, Willis .. 96' had Iverson, Camby, Abdul-Rahim, Marbury, Ray Allen, Antoine Walker, Kittles, KOBE, Stojakovic, Steve Nash, Jermaine O'Neal, Ilguaskuas, Derek Fisher it's really no debate at all. The class of 96 is the best of all time.
+Chris Lovett really fisher was never all star 84 had Jordan the goat Hakeem a top 5 center of all time arguably the best center John Stockton top 5 point guard and Barkley a top 5 in the power forward spot o Neal or walker not even star players 84 was better
Sebastian eh, they didn’t even need melo or wade. Back then, they already had rip Hamilton and tayshaun Prince etc. so not really. They still won a championship anyway
four future hall of famers that changed basketball forever they are one of the greatest players of all time in n The history of the NBA and basketball history 👑👑👑🐐🐐it will be the same without them
2003 redraft should have gone like this 1. Lebron James, no doubt this man is already a top 5 player of all time, easily the best player in this draft 2. Dwayne Wade- this man is a three time nba champ a finals mvp, multiple all stars, pick him here without question, arguably the 3rd best shooting guard of all time behind only jordan and kobe. 3. Carmelo Anthony- he may not have a chip, but he is one of the most dynamic scorers we have ever seen, denver picks up melo here again 4. Chris Bosch- The best big man in this draft, one of the best raptors players of all time and a two time champ 5. This one is tough, and really hard to judge, but I would probably have gone with david west. He is the most accomplished out of the rest of these players in this redraft.
Good god what if Detroit just picked melo... He have had like 3 rings by now and been looked at so much differently. Billups was great for him in Denver and woulda been with him from jump. Tayshaun as a sixth man with a Ben-sheed-melo-rip-billups starting five coached by Larry brown? Holy shit
Easily one of the best drafts in NBA history. You have a dozen of players that are bonified hall of famers. It's hard to choose between this draft and the 1984 draft cause that draft had first ballot hall of famers as well. Lebron and Jordan...enough said
say what you will about lebron james but the man lived up to his expectations hes an unselfish humble player who is team first, he doesnt get in trouble and hes a role model so what if hes not jordan you tell me who is, but tell me who compares to lebron james in terms of his overall dominance nooobooodddyyy
Imagine the Pistons with either Wade or Melo PG - Billups SG - RIP SF - Prince PF - R Wallace C - B Wallace 6th man - Wade/Melo My God... They dropped the ball on this one
Lebron went to the Cavs and definitely lived up to the hype and more. He has outlasted everybody in this draft. Took our terrible team to the finals at just 22 years old by himself, Has won 4 Championships and exceeded all expectations. Legendary. And I can't believe the Pistons took milicic over Wade, Anthony and Bosh. Probably anybody else in this draft would've been better.
Good argument. I think the worst thing was probably against Dallas. That put him out of being the goat for some. I still wouldn’t put him as the goat but number 2.
I will never understand why Darko had such a bad career in the NBA. I'm from Bosnia and everybody watched Darko destroy much stronger and older players when he was with Hemofarm. Even when he played for Serbia he player like a total star. He was playing defense, blocking shots and scoring in the paint. He had moves inside, shot the midrange and had a looooooot of passion for his national team. Then he would go to his nba team and for some reason it just didn't translate. I don't know what happend to basketball in Yugoslavia. Only few years ago there was at least 5 nba prospects every year. Now,there is almost none. Dario Saric and that's that.
Carmelo carried his team to playoff, so tell me how can he fuk up their chemistry? They would be champion for 3-4 years in a row if they chose Carmelo.
@@ondertanucan Because that Denver team was built to allow Carmelo to be the lead dog. He would have never been the lead dog in Detroit. Not to mention the Pistons defense would have taken a huge hit because they might not trade for Rasheed Wallace at the trade deadline had they drafted Melo.
I was a kid back then in Australia and I had those early years Lebron jerseys. I knew this was special, inspiring to see a teenager have his local struggling basketball organisation rely on you as "The Chosen One" and he came from a struggling background. Lebron done a lot of great things. Detroit and the NBA were going for the Jokic type skill bigs, finally former yugoslavia is showing out in the nba again
