I did my 2005 Sienna today. My first timing belt change...also changed the three front oil seals, besides the WP. Knocked this job right out, no problem....thanks to this vid and a few others. For you guys and gals who are not sure if you can do it...Yes you can! Don't let anyone discourage you. But take your time and do it right. The easiest of jobs can be F'd up through impulsiveness.

I always put a nice dab of antiseize paste on those 2 long motor mount bolts when reinstalling them. Water gets down into that long bracket.

Really like the video except for the music. There were times that I could not hear what you were saying but I got what you were doing. You by far have the best video for the job! Trust me when I say that I have looked at several. It was exactly what I needed. I have a 2007 Toyota Solara 3.3L that the water gave out on and when I got to taking the timing cover off, the belt was barely there. It was shredded but I think there is enough to follow what you were doing. Thanks for the video. Just curious if you torqued any of the bolts and nuts?

Thanks for watching the video hope it helped. I didn’t realize the music was going to be that loud but as far as torquing we have done so many of these that we torque everything by feel. If you need any specific torque specs let me know and we can help provide those for you.

@@acetechauto7 well i'm in a pickle, I thought the second (back) long bolt was starting to move for me, but it just snapped as well. despite being able to pull the remaining halfes out and the black mounting bracket clear off the top, the upper bracket (with the X in it) won't separate from the lower bracket (mounted to the engine). I thought the channels were clear inside the X bracket and that it should seperate now, but it's not moving. the upper blocks one of the screws for the lower and I can't seem to get anything on that screw, especially with the upper belt cover still in place. and I can't get the upper belt cover clear with the upper bracket still in the way. I'm all bound up and running out of ideas to get this whole thing off.

I think it's very important to mention that the cam sprockets are installed differently; the front one versus the rear. The rear sprocket flange faces the inner fender while the front sprocket flange faces the engine. This is very important if you see that you have to remove the sprockets!!

Would have been nice for you to show your belt markings at the crank aligned after you attached the tensioner.
@brucewayne2773
@brucewayne2773 2 года назад
I use the cam shaft bolt to line up the marks instead of the main crank bolt. Top tip , install the timing belt on first , make sure all marks are lined up and then install the tensioner pulley and then the tensioner on last.
@acetechauto7
@acetechauto7 2 года назад
I personally would not use the camshaft bolts to completely turn the engine over as it requires quite a lot of force to fight through the compression of the engine when turning it over and you don’t wanna risk putting that much stress on the cam bolts possibly even snap it…I would use the cam bolt only to make minor adjustments.
@brucewayne2773

So after installing the timing belt and pulling the tensioner, we turn the crank a few time to check the time is in place ? Looking to take on my 06 sienna this coming week bc I was quoted 1400 in so cal
@acetechauto7
@acetechauto7 6 месяцев назад
Yes turn the crank 2 full turns after installation and check to make sure your timing marks align in the correct spots on your camshafts and on the crank. If you have markings on the belt those will never align again in the same spots so don’t worry about those. It’s not a bad job, you just gotta have some patience as it will take some time. Good luck!

Very good video. What can I do? It's a 2004 if I removed the timing band but didn't mark it in the points. Can I put it just like that? Will I have problems getting it to start?😢
@acetechauto7
@acetechauto7 11 месяцев назад
As long as you put the timing at top dead center you don’t need to mark the belt itself.
@dallasclement4682
@dallasclement4682 Год назад
After putting everything back together, I turned on the engine and immediately noticed some smoke arising from the timing belt area. Upon closer examination I observed that the back of the crankshaft pulley is rubbing up against the front of the lower timing belt cover. I've got that cover fastened securely and I don't see any gaps. Just not sure why my crankshaft pulley is further in than maybe it should be. I've got the washer over the top of the crankshaft cog between the pulley. Could I have over torqued when I impacted the crankshaft bolt? Seems unlikely because the timing belt is still neatly aligned with the cog it rests on. Any ideas what I could have done wrong here?
@acetechauto7

The only thing I could think of is you haven’t lined the cover up correctly. Recheck the cover and make sure it’s snug up in the right spot. Good luck

It’s going to be difficult because to remove the lower bracket you have to remove the Timing covers first. In the past I have had to break that bracket off and just purchased a new bracket but you can play around with it and see if you’re able to wiggle it out without breaking it. Good luck!

How do you put the harmonic balancer back on to the proper torque settings without the pulley turning?
@acetechauto7
@acetechauto7 2 года назад
Torque spec is 162 ft lb. To do it the right way you would need a harmonic balancer holding tool part# SCH64300 to hold it in place while you torque it. You could also try to make a tool with a thick piece of steel and drill 2 holes in it to match up with the holes on the harmonic balancer. It has to be long enough where it can catch on to something preferably the frame to stop it from turning. Third option is if you have an air impact use torque limiting extensions.

Why is that that inner tie rod boot is always torn on the passenger side?

Mostly caused due to an oil leak in the rack n pinion getting in the boot or the engine or power steering fluid leaks on it and weakens it.

@prtbone78 yes you turn it clockwise with the crankshaft bolts. That’s just a safe measurement to make sure after those turns the cams shaft and crankshaft still line up where there suppose to be. If they don’t then that means you skipped a tooth when you put the new belt on.

Is the same job easier on same year Honda Odysseys? Toyota Service manual says to replace the cam and crank oil seals. Why did you skip that? Short-changing the customer, pal. Those seals leak and cause premature timing belt wear and possible failure.
@acetechauto7
@acetechauto7 2 года назад
It’s not about short changing the customer. It’s about having done thousands of timing belt services over time and have seen less than 1% of them with leaky cam and crank seals. Therefore we don’t see it necessary to overcharge customers on timing belt services for the seals when it’s not that common. Cant always go by the book. But yes when needed that is definitely the time to do it.
