Not Just another Mechanic. My TL almost broke down and you gave me the courage to try to fix it on my own. I has hard time with the 3rd screwl. it wore out and would not grab. After taking out most parts around the filter I got enough space to use a pressure plier to get that sucker out. Felt great after I got it done. Many many thanks for all the details that mattered. You help this gut out big time.
If you are having a shudder in your Acura look into changing your pressure switches. They are known to go out for whatever reason and will cause that shudder from 3rd to 4th gear i want to say.
Great detail. It was really useful knowing the size and location of the fasteners, saved a lot of time trying to figure those out. I was getting ripped off big time from the dealer for doing this same job. Thanks.
I bought a 2005 with 82,000 miles for my son. I love this car!!!!!! I did read somewhere that the transmission is notorious for failing. To prolong the transmission I read to replace the 3rd and 4th pressure switch and use redline racing ATF Thanks for the video 👍👍
290k miles on my 2004 TL automatic with original pressure switches, its more important to change the oil every 25k miles then anything else.. a switch is a switch it will work fine..
You ask 10 people and get 10 opinions. Just be smart. How does the oil look? Smell? Duration in car? It takes 3 drain and fills to rid the car of all transmission fluid.
Great video. Packed with good information. The little plastic holders on the skid plate need to have the center part pried out so it frees the plate. I learned that today. Thanks again for the great video.
This was way more difficult than imagined , the stiff line attached to the outer nut was in the way and couldn’t get filter in and out with out crazy hand strength But I also have added aftermarket cooler which ran its lines thru this area.
@@denyskostromin4924 I walked into the Honda dealer and asked for them. Less than a dollar for each one so it's not worth complicating it but I can get the part number if you need it. A couple of videos show all the packages as well.
I have a 08 TL type s. When going into 2 if I don’t rev up to 3k RPMS it jolts, when going into 3 if I’m not revving high enough again, it does a small flare. I seriously don’t know wtf is wrong with it, any help? I think I might just need a new transmission lmao
when was the last time you changed your ATF? how many miles? is your D light blinking? stuck in gear? - change the Neutral safety switch 3rd/4th pressure switch is worth a try always use Honda ATF never flush, only drain and fill. finish with the transmission relearn process.
I wish one of these videos, just one, would explain why there is an inline filter showing for these transmissions as well as this cartridge one. Where does it go? Why is it so lucrative?
shouldn't get alot of transmission oil coming out of there .. don't really need to drain all your fluid to do that but makes sense to if you're going to put a new filter might as well put new transmission fluid
Don't have to drain it to replace the filter though right? And for anyone that is having slip problems, I swapped out my 3rd and 4th pressure switches and got rid of any slip.
I recently bought a 2005 Acura Tl with 169,000 miles and noticed that shifting was starting to become a little rough, checked the transmission fluid and it is a little brown and black/burnt but im afraid to change it because i was told it might mess up my transmission if i do, but i dont think it will, the fluid on this video looked gunky and all black, mine doesn’t look like that. Does anyone know if a transmission fluid change would damage my transmission?
@@fame45stunnaz im going to do the change this weekend, i am going to be using honda genuine fluid ATF DW-1. I tried getting ATF Z1 but i was i able to find any as it was discontinued.
Great video, I learned a bunch, thanks! It's been a year now since you made this video. How was the car behaving after the additive that you put in? I am a complete newb when it comes to taking care of my car so I try to find everything I can. One thing that I've come across is that additives are bad. Recently had my car serviced for a Blinking D light. Cost a bunch. They replaced the 3rd gear pressure switch and changed the transmission fluid (it was dark after 15k miles? Hmm)... any other stuff I should know?
@@tylerbuchanan6822 I need to do the trans oil change on my 07 Type S. What do you recommend? Draining 3 quarts and getting up to operating temp and repeating 3 times?
@@belminzvekic6 I would buy 6 quarts of Redline D4 and 3 quarts Redline Racing. I do a 2:1 mix and drain/fill drive for 20/30 miles (not all highway) and repeat twice. Replace your 3 pressure switches and clean the dual solenoid/housing/passages. Replace your filter and you should be good to go

I have an 04 acura TL and I replaced the 3rd and 4th switches since they are practically nxt to each other behind the left front wheel, i did a drain of the atf and filled it up with 3 quarts of honda atf waiting on the filter and solenoid gaskets to be shipped in and doing the final 3x2 when they arrive
@@itzKengo I also have an 04. The Type S has 3 pressure switches whereas we only have 2. If you haven’t yet I recommend pulling the dual linear solenoids (clutch pressure valve A & B) accessible under the factory intake box and cleaning the screens on them as well as any gunk off the housing. You will need a new gasket. If you are looking to be extremely thorough (read: have over 175k miles) you can replace shift solenoids A B & C. Diagram can be found by googling-2004 Acura TL Transmission Solenoid Diagram
@@justanothermechanic8740 how would this be possible if I can’t put a socket on it there’s no room, I had to use the 17mm wrench but that would keep stripping it.
What about some penetrating oil and pliers or hammer and a screw driver to break bolt free. Be sure to buy replacement parts before removing or drive to shop to have them remove it.
@@mikelangelo187 I tried pliers but barely any room for it to even move lol. I recently bought a chisel but need to get the copper washer from Honda, advance or autozone don’t carry that copper washer smh 🤦♂️
