I really appreciate this video, and you are right other videos showed everything but what is most important and that was how to take the water temperature sensor out, however I was able to take out the sensor with your description of removing it

@1:20 - it seems there are 2 versions of the sensor (many engines use this sensor). Everything is the same except for the o-ring - one is twice as thick. The reason why you had to force the sensor in in order to twist and lock it ( just align and twist to lock by design ).

Also for your viewers make sure you put a little o-ring small amount of o-ring grease on that rubber seal it'll help spin it in and it'll keep it from dry rotting. Also you only changed one temperature sensor this motor that you're working on has two separate coolant temperature sensors

Hey where is the other temp sensor? I have a 2005 Taurus with the Duratec DOHC and am getting a P0128 code. I checked the heat coming out of the vents inside the vehicle with an infared gun and it reads 170-175°F. That makes me think I have a bad temp sensor, but I don't know which one to replace.

@@MikeHeck-t7e if you have the electronic heating system, which is not manual it has push buttons, then that sensor will be when you open up the hood and look just behind the grill to the left you will see the sensor and it is easily unplugged in replaced. Keep in mind that this may not be your only problem and you may have a blend door actuator that is not functioning properly. Or you may have a thermostat issue.

@@willsrestorations Hey thank you for the quick reply! We have a manual climate control dial to adjust between hot and cold. Both the A/C and heat work great. I have a check engine light on-code P0128. The engine temp gauge does not come up to the middle of the range like it used to-it stays in the lower 1/3. The heat in the vehicle does still work well, so I don't know if the thermostat is bad, or if it is just a sensor? Thanks so much for your help!

@@MikeHeck-t7e The sensor that sits close to the thermostat housing is a fairly simple straightforward procedure to change. The only thing that comes to mind is a thermostat may not the operating properly or the 50/50 mixture of antifreeze is off considerably. Check your top hose going to the radiator and feel for heat and then go to the lower radiator hose and check that for heat. A lot of times you will see that a 182 or 185 thermostat is in there and it should be a 192 or a 195 Fahrenheit thermostat. The thermostat is so easy to change I would suggest you start there and then start with the sensor if you have not changed it yet. I don't believe there are two temperature senses on the vehicle if you have a manual heat control inside the vehicle with a manual three-button control

Ok, so it's on the side where the belts are located? I have a 1992 SHO, and may install it myself.

It is located on the driver side of the engine.

I was mistaken. Mine is a 1992 Ford Taurus SHO and I was searching for the coolant temperature sensor.
