Sounds good for a 4.2. I have the 5.3 and only get 16 mpg; however, the car drives like a sports car and I like it more than the Chevy Suburban for the fun of driving. I do notice that the 2001 Suburban, also gives 16 mpg, holds up so much better with 320K miles on it and no issues at all, because I replace the rack'n' pinion in the Denali AND the front wheel hubs. I'd recommend the big car, because it's easier to work on and lasts longer, too. BUT love driving the Envoy and keeping it up meticulously.
Yes i love these Envoys so much i now have (2)two! A 2003 XLT XL with the 4.2 inline 6 that has over 278,000 & a recently purchased 05' Denali Envoy XL with the 5.3v8 that the seller was parting out with as he sold the engine because the trans failed so he was just parting out the vehicle so i bought it for $350 because in all honesty the body & interior are in immaculate condition even more so than my 03' ! It needs a trans & engine that im trying to get together so i can get him back on the road to enjoy & give some much needed rest to my 03' because she's been my daily for quite some time now & it's starting to show its age! The Denali is now my project vehicle to bring it back to life but i need to get started soon so i can enjoy the power & responsiveness of that 5.3v8!
