Best to pull the cloth off the headliner and use a metal brissel brush with adhesive remover to rid of the old foam, to prep for the paint. I took epoxy and brushed that onto it to create a smoother surface. Just a tip that i didnt show
On my 04 D2 rear sun roof stuck open it will go back then return home but but not close when I replace headliner I will address why rear sunroof won't close
Have you checked the ground strap may be disconnected… also there me be a bind i know some systems will return to “home” or malfunction if met with u reasonable resistance.
Hahaha sometimes i wish it was gas, and im using touch up direct its water based and a 2k clear, comes in a kit. I was going to go hvlp but i dont have the set up or the patience to figure out it out whereas i rattle can all the time soooo… cost and familiarity is why. Turned out great and has been holding up good tho regardless this summer.
