This old school hockey is so much fun to watch. Yes there is way more skill today, but it’s also a far more robotic and predictable game. This era was chaotic and unpredictable. You can FEEL the effort and bravery that goes into every shift.
Zetterberg, Lang, and Franzen scored in that game. Yzerman assisted on Lang's goal, that was his last point. www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/200605010EDM.html
Hey man. When I was 7 I saw Detroit play the Dallas Stars. We got slaughtered. All I remembered from the game was that Dallas scored very quickly into one of the periods. Otherwise we got hammered. Halfway through the game I started saying out loud, "Let's go Red Wings, let's go"; and then a big guy behind me started saying it too. And then the whole arena started saying it! Anyway, I was thinking today how cool it would be to find the highlight of the Stars goal (or maybe even the arena saying the chant lol). So I looked online to see if I could figure out what game it was -- not knowing what year it was, or anything. Anyway, it turns out that it was the fastest goal that Dallas scored in any period of any game. I dug a little deeper and saw that it was Joe Nieuwendyk seven seconds into the game on 11/13/1998. Detroit lost 5-1; and little did I know at the time, I was watching that season's Stanley Cup champions, in the Dallas Stars. It's interesting how a horrible game was actually historically significant in some way. If you have a copy of the game, it would be really cool to see some highlights (and maybe even the "Let's go Red Wings" is in there). In the end my dad carried me out of the arena in the third period because I had fallen asleep.
@@awood40 Thanks =) Are old games like that available anywhere official? Like does the NHL have some way of watching old games // Also were all of these personally recorded by you?
They used to have an old Vault that was included with Gamecenter but that's been gone for a while. The selection was kinda random (Larry Murphy plays career game # ____ as an example) and I had major gripes with the audio quality and editing. There was somewhere around 150 Wings games on there, mostly playoffs. Majority of the games I post are acquired from other collectors. I haven't seen this game pop up yet but I'll take note of it for you.
@@awood40 Thanks dude 🥰. I was born in 1990 and grew up playing goalie in Midland, Michigan. What a cool time to grow up with the Wings winning seemingly every year. And being part of hockey myself at the time. Anyway, revisiting this period has been really inspiring to me. I realize that I was really fortunate to experience it, even though I didn't have the full context at the time. // And I can't believe my Dad and I left before the Yzerman fight 😂😂😂 When I mentioned the game, I thought it would be an uninteresting game to you, since we got slaughtered; but the highlights sound like they could actually be pretty great! Beyond just the fights. Looks like it was a pretty passionate game. I remember it being really boring for some reason. Hence me trying to resurrect them from the dead. 😂 I think at the time I was only focused on whether they were winning or losing, versus all of the drama surrounding it
