Truly a great car, one of the hidden gems of the car world. I remember hearing about this car years ago. I drive a 15 Acura TLX and would definitely get this car for the winter months or when I'd like to go off roading. The electronic issues and high maintenance kind of scares me, but I think if i found the right one i'd get it.
Thanks for the honesty. I just had my 3.6 passat ran into and it’s totaled. Looking for a replacement I saw you’re review. At 2:21 I had everything I need. Transmission, wiring harness. They seem to be really common issues. Nope not for me.
Looking at a 04 now . Need something to drive during the winters . I'm here around Atlanta, but don't see myself driving my vette that's lowered in winter weather. Nice review, thanks.
The only issue I had with mine is the pump in the transmission. It would act like my front brakes were locking up if I accelerated too fast. But if I was in sport mode it wouldn't happen. It's a common issue and 1500 in repairs
Are these good in the winter time? I live in Minnesota and reading the comments about moisture being bad sort of throws me off but I think I love this car despite the repairs and mpg.
I had one in Minnesota and it's amazing in the snow. One thing you will come out to your car being a lowrider in the morning when its really cold cause the air suspension doesnt account for temperature changes. But other than that it was amazing. Also can cruise at 130 mph with confidence, let a police car try and catch up haha
Are transmission issues common on the Touareg? I'm on the hunt for a car, and the Touareg is the only one that I like that isn't a manual. Also, how much did it cost you to repair yours?
I did a little research, and it turns out that the original Valve Bodies on them tend to mess up the shifting after a while and cause a nasty clunk. That involves removing the valve body, cleaning it out, and upgrading the parts. That seems to be the only common problem with the transmissions that I can find. The Valve Body messes up around that mileage, form what I remember
The Touareg's have their Transmission Control Module mounted under the drivers floor, Excessive moisture could cause failure. They are also known for driveshaft bearing failure.
That's no good! I keep my Touareg immaculate inside and out (hand wash it every week), and I've been noticing a mildewy smell in the past few days near the driver's floor. I guess it's definitely something to be concerned about. Thanks for mentioning that
So I have a question about the compass in the clock if you are still active on RU-vid or have the car. Does the compass only come on when the car is on or is there a button you have to press to make it display?
