Water pump failed, so I decided to change the oil pump, timing chain, and A/C compressor as well. cost about 500 buck for all the parts and gaskets. i bought name brand parts form amazon, rockauto, still had to use Autozone and Walmart for for all the small stuff. It took a lot of time, the hardest part was removing the sprockets and harmonic balancer pulley. I also could not remove the oil pump with out removing the oil pan but that turned out not to be all that hard.

Thanks for this! If my 05 ever needs an oil pump I might send it out. A side note, I doubt all the subsequent squeaking is the belts. When I did my water pump, (easy compared to this!), I took the opportunity to replace all the belt tensioners along with the belts. Makes it sound great. :)

Doing my 2007 suburban with 326K miles because it's leaking at the rear oil pan corners. It's not the rear cover or main seal. I replaced the gasket and rear main seal 75K miles ago. The rear main seal wasn't leaking but the cover was leaking bad at the top at the high pressure ports. Yesterday, I used a scope to check and everything is perfect at the rear cover. I thought I'd see lots of wear on the chain, sprockets and inside the oil pump. Nothing. everything looks brand new still. I'm going to do the sprockets and chain because I'm sure the chain has a little stretch to it but I'm debating whether or not I should just return the oil pump. The oil pickup tube o-ring was cracked and had an 1/8" gap which explains the 20-25 psi at idle when it was previously 40. I should have replaced the o-ring when I did the rear cover and oil pan gasket but I didn't think about it. I've always used Mobil 1 Fully Synthetic oil in it and I'm 100% sure that's why this engine looks like new inside still.

You gotta.remove the gears from inside the pump..don't lower the oil pan..it can be done..it took me over an hour to get the pick up tube bolt out..TIE SOME FISHING LINE AROUND THE BOLT..IF YOU DROP IT IN THE PAN YOULL BE FISHING FOR IT..
