It was eMachines' bottom of the barrel when it was introduced. If you want to know how I got this thing, feel free to check out • I bought an eMachines ... where I checked it out. Also I can't believe how long it's been since I've done one of these!
Anyways, it has a sempron, and would've came with a Bestec power supply. It has bulging capacitors and a defective disc drive.

Have you thought about putting Linux on it? or maybe even FreeBSD? that might give it a good chance at running a modern web browser, I recommend debian with the xfce desktop environment. I understand if you don't want to do this it's just a suggestion I'd say the best thing to do is install it on another hard drive so you can preserve the original windows xp install if that's something you care about.

I've never considered it, but I might do so as I have what feels like a dozen XP systems and I recently installed Windows 2000 on a Dell Dimension 3000.

These old buckets are just about worthless now, watch them become collector's items in a few years. I want to see what happens with PCs that are now around 10 years old. They are still quite capable and far from dirt cheap, will they ever become "junk"?

Yeah, I got this one for not too expensive. Given some of these systems are fairly hard to come by, I'm pretty sure specific models may become really rare.

Cool! My family owned PCs from a variety of OEMs (such as Dell, Lenovo, Asus and HP) back in the day, however most of the desktops in my household are custom built units built by another family member with lots of PC experience.

How do you think it will handle Windows 7? I ask because I see there’s a gig of ram in it and I’m pretty sure that GPU supports aero.

I don't think it would handle it well. Though I've got 7 to work on a laptop with 568 megs of ram, this specific PC has an AMD Sempron, which… uh, yeah…

Why not SP3?

It just recently got restored, and hasn't been updated. I'm currently focusing on a Windows 7 project at the moment, as I just restored a PC to its original factory software installation for a video.
