Thanks for taking the time and effort to make our lives easier. Now, WE know what to expect. I just got a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis with 160,000 miles on it and I'll bet the fuel filter has never been changed.
I have to admit this video help me out..especially that yellow thing that releases the fuel filter..He didn't mention it in the video but it help me cause of the color ..He didn't mention also it can be a bitch to get it to snap out ..and when that gas come out it makes u think it's going to empty your tank on the ground. .and it's cold.
Had my 05 Vic for 3months it stalls when I give gas around 20-30 mph I let off the go higher it sputters a lil and takes off..do u think may be fuel filter or more than that?
I'm thinking that the fuel filter is the problem but I don't know if it is or not. Let me explain. When I start my car it has no problem starting. When I drive it has no problem accelerating or shifting. But recently it'll feel like no gas is getting to any of the Pistons while driving. It'll stay on, the engine running, the transmission doesn't feel like it's slipping at all (but all I've ever had to do with a transmission is a 2005 impala and you'd feel it slip and grab), but it feels like no gasoline is making it to the engine.
I saw a jack stand next to the car. Never trust a hydraulic Jack by itself. Always throw a jack stand underneath it. Other than that great video thank you.
I've been having what appeared to be fuel pressure problems. The problem was intermittent but got more frequent. With intermittent problems, it never acts up when you're at home and trying to diagnosis it. You can't troubleshoot what's working perfectly at the time. I first changed the fuel pressure sensor. Still have problems. Fuel pump modulator. Still have problems. When I turn the key on, I can hear the fuel pump but it sounds differently when it will crank than when it won't. I can tell when it will crank just from the sound of the fuel pump when I turn the key on. So I changed the fuel pump. Still have problems. I was looking on the Internet and there was a site that talked about changing the fuel filter. I watched your video and I'm going to do that next. The only other components in this circuit are the fuel shut-off switch, fuel relay and computer. I know it's not the fuel shut-off switch or relay because I can hear the fuel pump even when it decides not to crank. The car has about 150,000 miles on it. I'm changing the fuel filter. I have faith now that it must be the filter. The only other possibility is the computer and I think that is very unlikely. You said that changing the fuel filter will result in it running better. Did you notice any change in the "sound" of the fuel pump before and after changing the fuel filter? Changing my fuel pump made no changes in regards to the sounds that I described above. There is still a difference in sound when it will crank and when it won't. I will post an update after I change the fuel filter and let you know.
Dale Firmin sorry for the late reply. I would like to know the outcome of the problem you had. In reference to your question, the difference I noticed was that the car sounded and ran smoother. That was about it. Hope you fixed your problem. Let me know. 😊
Mine has some sputtering issues. It has wanted to drop pressure a few times majorly here the past few weeks. Today I started to have a heavy smell of gas. I checked under the hood. No leaks up there. Smelled out the pipes, nothing. Smelled at driver's side...got a whiff of it. Smelled on passenger side, major stink. I'm assuming the filter may be so clogged it is building up too much pressure and maybe leaking. Going to change it. Hope that helps. I haven't seen any fuel leaking on the ground. Probably only has the issues when driving. It wasn't dumping fuel while driving. Gauge didn't go down any more than normal. Smell came from the passenger side door right near the middle of the car. Could smell it with ac on at stoplights but not bad.
I had a close friend of mine think he was going to do a quick job under his sons vehicle, he was VERY mechanically and safety inclined, but this ONE time he decided to NOT put stands or even a block under the vehicle, he put pressure on his ratchet to break a nut loose and the vehicle fell off BOTH, yes 2 jacks, he was killed instantly leaving his young children alone, he wasn't married.
@@richardbeckmann6720 super late like 3 yrs late but if u see this…. How did u get the back off??? I have the same problem right now ? Thanks either way
Two things weren't mentioned in this video. One is releasing the fuel pressure. To do that simply undo the gas cap. And also it should be mentioned for those with air suspension to make sure you turn that off before jacking the car up
A fail safe to control residual fuel splatter is.. PUT THE CAR ON SAFTEY JACKS.. open the trunk, on the left, push on the yellow flag, under the hood, on the fuel rail, remove the knurlled cap covered with a piece of towel and press down to relieve leftover pressure in the system then remove the filter. Afterwards, install the fuel rail cap, reset the trunk SAFTEY ( yellow ) switch , check for any leaks and get moving....
Do not pry the white tab out, instead press it in with your thumb and pull connector off the fuel filter while tab is pressed in. There for the white Tab will not have to be replaced.
When you're poor and don't have anything else besides a jack, you use what you got. To answer some of your guyses questions, the coupling tool does not come with the fuel filter and yes it is as easy as turning your key on a couple of times to get fuel through the filter to your motor.
+Nikolas , thanks but I was unable to finish watching the video due to sever motion sickness. Maybe on the next effort have one of your friends do the camera work. Just saying
+tiredlawdog maybe you shouldn't be picky and be happy with what you have. To my knowledge, there isn't a video that shows you a "how to" on the fuel filter unless one has been added since mine.
this video is wonderful.. thank you.. I have a 2006 Mercury grand Marquis ls and needed the jist of things and this video did the trick.. wonderful job and I with with what I have as well.
When the fuel filter requires a push tool, it is important to staurate the metal connestor inside area with wd40 or some such other lubricant. Why? Glad you asked where the stem of the filter locks inside the receptor, there are a bunch of tiny o rings. When lubed they do not come out with the filter. If they do, you have to have a special tool and spare tiny o rings to restore to use or a tow to the garage.. Remember to place a bit of lube on the ends going in. Do not use vaseline as a lube or you will instantly blow yourself and the car up if it contacts gasoline.
