First of all, Im a woman. I have been riding around with my window down for MONTHS! I followed your instructions to the letter. MY WINDOW WORKS!!! THANKS SO MICH!! Dirty connectors!! Im elated!! New subbie!
Thanks from another satisfied viewer! I fixed both the switch on the drivers door and rear door on my F350! The switch was a little different, but the principle was the same! The penny trick is going to come in handy on some other jobs, too.
After buying my second unit I decided to Google it and found your video I took them both apart and fix them wow there's a lot of Texas dirt in these things thank you once again and have a blessed day
Thank you for posting this video, I knew it was a contact issue since my driver's window would not go up occasionally. Your video probably saved me 30 minutes knowing exactly what steps to take vs. a "trial and error" approach. All said in 10 minutes the window was operating fine.
THANK YOU!!!! My dad's window has been broken for over a year. It would go down but not up. He was ready to take it to the mechanic, who said it was his motor. I found your video and followed the steps. It worked! My dad can't believe we did this ourselves. Thanks again!
Thank you for the excellent video with clear communication. As a retiree, I was not looking forward to spending a few hundred to fix it. Twenty minutes after watching your video...it was working great! Thank you!!
I have to say thanks for this video. Saved my weekend from being stuck at home with my window down. I was on a path investigating the switch and gave up, took apart the back of the unit instead of the switch side. I thought Amazon replacement part was the only fix. After having this vehicle for so many years working in South Dakota it's been exposed to a lot of weather conditions combined with dust. After your video, I took apart the correct side, found that my '03 Expedition did not have those rubber dust covers and the contacts ranged from black to dark brown. Simple disassembly, acetone and q-tip cleaning, then all is working. Now we can hook up the boat and take my son fishing! Thank you so much.
Life saver! Thanks. My window wouldn't roll up or down and I got stuck in a thunderstorm for 45 minutes. Went to autozone bought a fuse and realized that wasn't the problem. Found your video before I bought a master window switch and what you said worked. Thanks for saving me $70!
I just fixed the driver's side window switch because it was corroded. When you said bend the little metal piece that the plastic button actuates, I said "that's not necessary"; so I had to go back again and bend that little piece and "then" it worked! Thanks for the great video!!
Thanks Glen!!! I saved $$$ in repairs my 2005 Ford Sport Trac XLT by viewing your video before heading out to order a complete (driver side) Window Master switch unit. Yesterday the driver's window was able to roll down although now was unable to roll up. I viewed your video and decided to give a try. I followed the instructions step by step. However the contacts on this model are actually about 1/2 inch length and the width of 2 toothpicks side-by-side. And there are 2 contacts both are deeply seated in the single switch casing. So I got my can of Electrical spray used for cleaning Mass Air Flow units and sprayed the contacts for about 10 seconds. As it quickly dried I reassembled everything, started the truck and hit the switch and all done... works...like new!!!
You, Sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. Also, a personal hero and spirit animal of mine. Thanks a million for showing us the what's what on these. Very useful information.
Absolutely the best detailed video of any repair I've ever watched. From start to finish, it was clear what needed to be removed and what didn't, how to do it and replace the parts. I love this. I'm a DIY kinda gal and this will fix my switch frustration. Thank you, again!!!
I just went out and went through all of the steps as presented. I laid out the pieces in order, so as not to get confused as to how it went back together. The issue I was having with the window was that it would go down, but not back up when the passenger side switch was used. The driver's side switch would activate the window, but it was extremely frustating not to have control over the window. I followed the instructions to a "t" and woolah, switch works perfectly now. I used a fine piece of sandpaper to clean the contacts and needlenose pliers to slightly bend the contact. Amazing....thank you for posting such a detailed fix! You're my hero of the day!!!
Wonderful video!!! straight forward, to the point, no ramblings about off topic non-sense... didn't fumble around with camera and could see everything that was done up close so there wasn't any questions about what went where…. THANK YOU!!!
My drivers window switch was doing the same thing. I followed along with the video and now it works great. FYI, I didn't pull all of the pieces apart like he did at the end of the video, but I did disassemble until I could see the contacts and then I used a pair of needle-nosed pliers to bend the arm slightly while it was still in the cradle and then used the piece of business card to score the contact. The rear passenger window switch also wasn't switching down, so I pulled it apart, did the same fix and now it works great. Funny thing about the rear passenger window was that I had to call a window company about six months ago to replace the window regulator when it broke and he found the switch problem but said we could only replace the switch. So sometimes even the experts don't know it all, which is why we have RU-vid. This fix works. Thanks for the help Engineerglen. JB
Thank you so much! Excellent filming and narration! I had the same issue with my driver side window but when I opened it up as you did not only was the metal contact dirty but the little prong that touches it had melted to half it's size. I just swapped it with the down prong and now everything works fine.
I purchased a new switch on Amazon before watching the video. I could have saved $14. Live and learn. Great video. I did learn how to replace the switch, which I am saving.
This process took me about 6 minutes to remove the switches, take them apart, clean contacts, and bend the contact for the driver side window on my 06 f150. Very easily done. It was only after this I find I can buy the whole switch assembly for about $12 but it may be made in China and there's nothing quite like OEM. Thanks for the demo.
That is so smart...the two pennies I mean. But what if you've only got 7 pennies???! Just kidding. Thank you very much. You have not only saved me a ton of money, you've also saved me much aggravation in not having a rear window that moves up and down. I'd send you a couple dollars if I knew your address. The bending of the contact is a genius idea. Thanks for that perfect touch to this job. Now, if you could only tell me why my windshield wipers won't go back to their down position when I turn them off, I'd be grateful once again. They stop and stay in position where ever they are when they're shut off. Not a terrible problem of course, but it's now the only problem I have with my awesome 2004 Ford Focus. Seriously, thanks again, Glen. You've got a radio personality's voice...easy to listen to.
Thank you for this video. As I stood trying to take the door panel off, I thought why don't I search youtube first! Then popping off the rockers....you did a great tutorial. It should be noted that the little white plastic plungers wear down as well. I ended up switching the metal contacts and one of the plungers from a rear window that isn't used as much and has a second way to roll it up and down. I also rebuilt the burnt pad with a dab of solder and burnished it flat. Thanks again for the great tutorial.
Recently purchased new Master Door Switch for parents Crown Vic. I will try try this before i install new switch. Excellent Video. Nice lighted camera work so i can see video instructions well. Although i only paid ($15) for new "aftermarket" door swtich, i will return it to seller if this works. Thank you sir for the help. You are saving people money who need it for other things like monthly meds!!
This is exactly what I needed. My driver window is stuck down. I'm going to hit these steps tonight. Great quality video and explained extremely well. Thanks for posting.
before you buy a switch try this. follow the switch removal method shown in this video. remove switch assembly from door. pry off the rocker switch caps. (they press back on). take contact cleaner spray down into contacts. move toggle switches with caps off back and forth while spraying. let dry. attach to wiring harness and check. I did this and the windows started working. the switch contacts were dirty and the contact cleaner took off the crud. if they're burnt it may not work. you'll need to follow his contact cleaning method by disassembling the housing. Try it for the cost of a can of contact cleaner. save $$$$.
I'm having the same issue. I ordered the replacement for it but after looking at this great informative video, I will attempt to follow these steps to see how it turns out. Look forward to trying, thank you for your time and great video.
Excellent video, drivers window on my 2005 Expedition was doing the same thing until it got stuck in the down position, couldn't have fixed it without you, thank you Sir!
Thank you so much for this video. Both my rear windows on my 2006 F-150 HD would only go down and not up. I was about to spend a lot of money on parts and having them installed. The video was so detailed and user friendly i couldn't wait to work on them. mind it its almost midnight and it only took me maybe 20 mins. Works like the day I bought my truck! Thanks Again!
Hello Rdfelic, thank you for your nice comment, I am glad to know the video was a help. It was a few takes to make the video, in fact I had the whole video done and edited, but it just wasn't right and in the trash it went and then I reshot just about all of the scenes, some 4 times and picked the best.
Friend, Thanks so much for posting this video. It worked like a charm on our 2004 FX4. Although the controls were a little different, the concept was the same. We appreciate you taking the time to post this video with such attention to detail and saving us some money!
Great video! Just fixed my 2008 f150. I bought the truck new and the auto down for the drive side has never worked. I honestly didn't know it actually had this feature. I cleaned the contacts now it works like new. Thanks for posting the video.
Thank you for posting this, my Driver's side window was also experiencing issues and cleaning the contacts fixed it right up. Saved me a small chunk of change.
Thank you sooooo much for posting this video. I replace my motor last year, and when the window went down but not back up, I was a little frustrated. searched how to remove the motor again and your video popped up. did as you described and it actually works better than before. Thank you again for saving me so much time and possibly money.
Thanks for this video...I almost purchased the switch on ebay till I accidentally came across this vid...you just save me over 100 bucks....thank you for the video one again..
Thank you, l just followed your steps and it worked, mine was a 2008 ford escape ,a little different ,it had a spring and l stretched it, now you can call me mechanic Deb😃👍
Wow, thanks for the video! You saved me tons of money! I cleaned the contacts with the screw driver, I just scraped the carbon off! It worked, passanger window rolls up and down!
engineerglen thank you for the video my I recently bought a used f150 and the driver window did not work tried what you recommended and it works great now!! Thank you!!
Thank you for the detailed and informative video. I had exactly the same problem with my 09 F150 driverside front window and it's now working better than ever.
Thanks for the video. Passenger side window was not working (using the passenger side switch). I didn't have the tool, but I used the business card. Switch works flawless now. THANKS
Thanks for the instructional video. Followed the instructions and had my window problem fixed in 20 minutes. I used an emery board to file the contacts and I also used some De Oxit contact cleaner and sprayed on the rest of the switches. Thanks again
This is a great video. It shows step by step with easy instructions. I had fixed my 2008 F150 driver side window contact issue. Thanks for showing this excellent video. Bill
@engineerglen Thank you so much for making this video. I just went to roll up my window after getting a bite to eat here on a chilly wet night in Washington State and was able to repair it in about 20 min. You are the best. Thanks again!
I loved your video. You have great talent. What I loved was the detail, close-ups and your clear concise explanations. Keep up the good work, it is very much appreciated.
bunnybr Hello Bunnybr, thanks for your nice comment, the detail and close-ups do take time, sometimes 5 or 6 takes for the close-ups as getting the focus just right is not easy on the little parts.
I've been having issues with my drivers window for months, and was just going to replace the whole actuator, but thanks to your video I just fixed by window
Thank you very much for sharing this video. Followed the steps and it worked like a charm. I am not mechanically inclined and did this with confidence.
You are the very best,,, took your time, was very to the point and the video was awesome! I have done this on my Mercedes in the past but this was nice ... AWESOME!!
