This bike is no joke. I have an 06.. I’m an experienced 600 rider, and I’m still adjusting to it and it’s only been a couple months. Proceed with caution!

The K5 is still a mythical beast in my humble opinion. Matt Mladin made this bike a thing of LEGEND. Greatest bike I've EVER ridden.

I've got a K6, bought it new and assembled it from the crate myself. Still looks like new after 40k of riding. Opinions may vary but it's one of the best bikes I've ever owned.

That gsxr stigma (squid) has been around for 25 years. It's amazing how far it's made it. I've owned a 96 gsxr 750, 02 600 and now I've had my 05 gsxr 1000 for a while. I've never been a squid. I'm a responsible rider. It's incredible how long the stigma has remained the same

It's been said before but for the benefit of the uneducated let me tell state this, you simply will not find this bikes limits on the road. I had one for 3 years and NOTHING up to date ever came past me. Small but comfortable ,taught but forgiving, docile as you want but monstrous power everywhere should the mood take you. The midrange he talks about so much makes it an absolute joy to live with just twist and go the thing just will not bog down in ANY gear. I've been on most of the current superbikes and yes they are truly amazing however that doesn't take away from the fact that Suzuki broke the mould when they unleashed this baby.

You wont even find a 600cc bikes limits on the road. The only thing I will disagree with you on is: this is known as the LEAST forgiving 1000cc, but there really isnt such a thing as a "forgiving" 1000cc literbike.

Ive owned a 2006 K6 GSXR 1000 for the past 4 years. Got an Ohlins shock /fork springs and valves, a Racefit slip on and exhaust valve delete and a power commander. Its a total beast and Ill never sell it. Ive ridden all sorts of 1000cc bikes and for me, nothing comes close for pure, viceral, full power sports bike, and that includes the BMW S1000RR (which incedently was based on the K5/K6.)

Every time I ride a GSXR 1k, I get off feeling like I just rode the best motorcycle on the planet, and that's coming from a guy who rode a ZX-14 for 7 years, I really want to ride the 2017 model, I sold the 14 2 years ago, and will soon be in the market for a new bike, and the Gixxer is number 1 on the list right now.

I have one of these bikes and I'm keeping it forever. The low down grunt and mid-range grunt make is such a good road bike. It's also light and steers brilliantly. The engines last forever too. Get the suspension serviced and keep on top of the cleaning and you're good!

I've had 3 of them! 1x K5 and 2x K6 of which I still have one and its the best bike I've ever had! I have ridden all the current sports bikes available and even though they are brand spanking new with features the K5/6 doesn't have, the K5/6 just feels so good that I simply cannot justify spending the money on a new bike that just wouldn't give me a better feeling when riding. And YES they have insane mid range! So much usable drive and I will say it.. feels better than a big bang R1 for torque! Yep I said it! I'd love to find a low mileage example to keep on display in my house! The K6 I have gets ridden not hidden!

I probably have the most well maintained K5 1000 in the world. Bought new in 2005..has only 1400 miles on it. Front wheel never been up. Bike has never seen rain. Also bike has never been over 80mph. This thing looks immaculate. I will make videos soon as it warms up a bit. Oh and no mods at all. The bike is stock. Hell still got the rear fender on it lol.

Nothing to brag on by it not being over 80mph. If that's the case then the bike has never been broken-in and given the mileage the engine may never reach its full potential. These bikes are built to be ridden and have a strong high rev motor so the power is their why not use it some?

Just got mine back from the shop after full service, new tires, brake lines. It had been gathering dust for years and it was time to show it some love. Forgot how much of a beast this bike is. Really it's like learning to ride all over again after coming off my HD, 690 SMCR and a slew of dirt bikes. Mad respect for this bike. My 06 is a decent example of the era in Blue/White scheme with 4200 miles and no engine mods other than a Yoshi Carbon slip-on.

I miss my K5. I let my wife ride it and told her to be extremely careful because it will throw you. I was so worried i followed her in my truck. When we got back from the 5 mile trip she said everyone was going so slow. I had the truck floored most the time trying keep up. She was going 90mph and had no idea, she though she was going the speed limit.

I wouldnt say let them talk you out of it because its a gsxr. I totally get it and you are right, Ive tried every japanese manufacturer from just buy sell buy selling my way from one to another. BUT FOR ALL YOU NEW RIDERS OUT THERE! If you have never thrown a leg on a bike, or are graduating from your ninja300, going to this bike would be totally STUPID! RU-vidrs love to hype up modern liter bikes, they look beautiful, they have all the latest tech, and that bike is designed for someone VERY experienced in riding. Before you throw a leg on any 1000, the dealerships will try to talk you out of buying a 1000 because they know: the only people who can safely ride a 1000cc bike is a sponsored rider who gets 7 days a week on a race track to rider them at their limits. Doesnt mean you cant buy one for the streets, what it does mean, make the liter bike your 3rd or 4th bike, unless you will drastically kill how fast you learn, you will constantly be scared of it which will slow your learning because you physically CANT push your limits in order to learn. By your 3rd or 4th bike you should know riding well enough to at least know how to control it enough to daily ride it and not get hurt if you are mature. But if this is bike #1 or bike #2, go out to a local track day, see what a smaller bike can do, learn in a safe environment, then see if you still want one. Most people leave saying "damn i was passing so many 600s and 1000s, I dont need to upgrade for a few more years, this ninja 400 is pretty friggin fun". The track wont be a salesman trying to stop you from buying it, it will simply show you, that in a lot of ways a 1000cc bike isnt nearly as fun as a 300cc bike is, and they sure as hell arent as fun as channels like 650ib would tell you they are, you ever want to see something painful, watch him at the R6 press launch, guy is getting passed by literal children, and the only thing he could say he liked, were things that Yamaha didnt actually improve on "I like the quickshifter"-he told the engineer who developed the engine and chassis. "I love the looks of it"- when people were talking about the front of the bikes handling. All the grinded downshifts he did were painful. Dont listen to rich guys on the internet(AK47 seems pretty chill and down to earth tho, decent video), the 650ibs and the Jared Campisi's of the world really cant ride for shit, but they look like they can because they will buy $40k bikes that shift for them, and that will sell new riders on needing bikes they even pro riders dont need.

Great video mate. I have a K5 also and agree with your comments and your disbelief about how much twist is in the midrange. I have a L3 1000 also and is does not make me smile as much as my K5. Am i ever going to sell it. .... shit no.Also what type of video are you using. Fantastic quality. Cheers. Gixerr1000

Hi, guys who own GSXR1000 k5/k6. Do you all have your bike's frame reinforced? Did you hear or see the broken or cracked frame of this bike ever?
@Eagles.Fan.Since.Super.Bowl.52
I heard rumors. Owned it from 07-09 and never had a problem. Never ran into another owner with a problem.

THAT WAS HILARIOUS WHEN YOU REVED THAT GSXR 1000 AT THE LIGHT AND THE WHOLE SKY FLEW AWAY WITH BLACK BIRDS! I LAUGH SO HARD EVERY TIME YOU REV A MOTORCYCLE ENGINE WHEN SOME FORM OF ANIMAL(S) IS / ARE NEAR YOU! -TOO FUNNY!

They came with fantastic tunes from the factory. Which is very unusual for any manufacture of bike or car. We would all throw power commanders on these and then to the dyno tuner and not get much more out of them.

Emissions killed car and motorcycle tunes. After 05 the Euro laws for emissions changed and so they just made it a universal change to things like cats and ECU tunes.

I love how these bikes have no traction control and no power modes. This is a man's bike no driver assist BS! I also like how they have a old school tach no digital tach that is hard to read only the speedo.

You need to try a new RSV4. Even more midrange, and that's saying something. I loved my 2005/6 GSX-Rs - have owned three of them. Wicked motor. So good at wheelies.

Best Gixxer ever made by Suzuki and one of the best bikes in motorcycle history.

Its not the most powerfull GSXR-s Suzuki made, its the bike made with the best power to weight ratio, and thats about it. Dry weight is about 163kg on the K5 and thats awsome numbers even at today standards and it puts out about 168bhp. So there you have it why its fast. But with great weight loss comes bigg stress to the undermined chassi and several return calls was made on the K5/K6 from factory repair/strength the chassi, for example front fork holders esembley. The chassi was also claimed to be unstable in high speed and not rigid enough. This engine is the one who startad the whole Suzuki, must check valves service, era..Because the engine is so high on output so the valves must be checked at 24000km and set, its basicly a race engine, same goes for the chassi, basicly a race chassi. The following models on Suzuki GSXR 1000 series also has to check valves at 24000km, but its just a leftover from the K5/K6 wich Suzuki now makes money from. I know ppl on K7's who havent checked his valves at 30000km and the engine is more then fine :) The K5/K6 didnt have the diffrent powermodes like K7 and further so you always had full power on every gear and thats why it feels so hard on pulling, K7 and further have limited power delivery on 1-4th gear (reed about TRE). K7/K8 is havier and therefor slower..BUT better chassi. K9/K0/L1 has better chassi, suspension, brakes and the longstroke engine wich is the best to tune..My K0 had 185hp stock on crank. With full race system, PC5, k&n air filter I got 169bhp on a 203kg wet weight bike..and YES its still not as fast as a K5/K6..BUT its better in breaking, handling and overall performance, so..K5/K6 is a legend bike, but it has some faults and its a handfull to handle, and for me a bike is much more then a stright pulling machine..but sometimes I miss my K5 :)

Yeah and once you remove the cat on the k7, it instantly weighs the same as a k5/k6. (K5 didn't come with a cat) That's with a more powerful stock engine on k7

Much like Mustangs, they are affordable power. So many were made and sold. That means more folks buy them, and more folks wreak them.

Have you rode a Suzuki TL1000R? My dad has one and out of what I've riden it has the most mid range torque I've felt on a liter bike it's a v-twin. And can someone tell me if the gsxr liter bike is as low in the front as the TL ?

I highsided mine and I miss it something wicked. To me this bike is like an old mopar. Bad assed but quite good manners. I recommend like 200ml of motor-up stuff and the box gets way easier to shift.

Suzuki is not able to recreate this magic - they are making heavy bikes these days , K5/K6 were light weight, built for every rider height and powerful like no other superbike. Suzuki should focus on a 1000cc superbike which weighs and handles like a 250cc, a seat height lower than 800mm and achieve top end stability with electronic aid. That can be the only modern successor of the K5/K6.
