Our 2005 Lexus ES330 was having some vibration issue under acceleration above 40MPH. I replaced struts and a-arms hoping it would fix it even knowing it wouldn’t. They needed it anyways. This video covers replacing both axles.

Thanks for the video. I replaced a bad transmission solenoid (S4 for 5th gear, vid on my page) today and turns out the bushings in the control arms and ball joints aren't horrible, so I'm kinda glad my package got lost cuz I'm no longer planning on doing them anytime soon LOL. Gonna go ahead and bookmark this just like your other vids, just in case. 😅

I'd be talking to myself like you but i wouldn't have a camera. I'd usually be abusing myself for putting bolts down in a stupid place

Good work on the showcasing the fix. Have an inner boot rip and grease leak and it says it’s better to replace the whole axle so might just to do that. If you have an opinion lmk. Also, your radio, where’d you get it and does it work with aux?

My opinion, replacing the whole axle is better and easier than just replacing the boot, you basically have to do the same amount of work and taking the chance that the grease you lost wasn’t enough to damage the joint. I would just replace the whole axle assembly. The radio in the Lexus is the factory unit that has built in navigation. It’s not the most advanced GPS system but it works somehow. I don’t think it actually works like GPS, it’s some home uses a preprogrammed map system. Not really familiar with it.

Thank you in advance, will you prefer to have after market or used OEM axle part?

If you can get the genuine Toyota parts, they’re usually a little better. More expensive of course. I got mine from rock auto. They were what had a budget for at the time.

Where did you shop for the cv axles? I tried looking for the oem parts through dealer but the prices are up to $1k just for one side. Then the aftermarket parts are ranging from $40 - $155 but I heard they're not very good.

I got them from rockauto.com. I just went with the middle of the price range for them on there. I’m happy with them so far. They fixed the vibration problem we were having and made my wife happy. Here are the part numbers that I got. And yes, everyone says use only genuine Toyota parts but like you said.. not everyone can afford to spend that much on a 20 year old car. APWI TO8319A $44.79 APWI TO8320A $63.79 Hope this helps and good luck with your repair. Thank you for watching, I appreciate it!

I learnrd to replace the seals at the same time. But by the looks of that car,.... it has so many leaks anyway.

Most of the mess was from the axle boot being split… but it does have a leaking oil pan, power steering pump, rear main or what ever it’s called on a transverse engine, and it kinda looks like it needs to be resealed on the trans casing too… there is a lot. I think the only place I didn’t see a leak was from the axle seals.. I am planning on sealing it up at some point.. just collecting all the parts and gotta find time where I can take the car down for an extended period.

What tools do I need
@ogresspeedshop

You really just need the basics. So a decent socket set up to 24mm maybe 27mm. You’ll need a 30mm 12 point socket for the axle nut. A pry bar. You’ll need a set of snap ring pliers for the mid bearing on the passenger side. A jack and jack stands.. I think that pretty much covers it. A drain pan of some sort to catch what spills from the transmission when you pull the axle out and transmission fluid to top off what you spill.
