Curling Legends Podcast Presents: Jennifer Jones (Manitoba) vs Jenn Hanna (Ontario) Scotties Championship Final Mile One Stadium, St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador February 27, 2005 #curling #scotties
I am seeing this video again after learning that Jennifer Jones is retiring from 4 person Women's Curling at the end of the 2023-2024 Curling season. Thank you Jennifer for the memories you have given to all of us Curling fans over the years during your legendary curling career which includes winning the 1994 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, 6 times Scotties Champion in 2005 (and winning it with the greatest ever Curling Shot in Curling history), 2008, 2009, 2010, 2015, and 2018, 2 times World Champion in 2008 and 2018 and best of all 2014 Olympic Champion! Jennifer Jones will always be a Curling Legend!
Incredible that the Hanna team won tie breaks to make the play-offs, then knocked off higher ranked teams to make the final-only to lose because of an unbelievable shot by Jones-I wonder how much Jenn considered hitting one of the open Manitoba stones instead of throwing the guard-my heart went out to her team for what must have been a devastating loss 😢
Jenn Hanna played the wrong shot with her last rock in that 10th end. There’s a long standing axiom in curling. Sometimes the best guard is 2nd shot! Ontario was up by two. All Jenn Hanna needed to do was get 2nd shot and there was lots of room for 2nd shot to be played. Had she done that Jones doesn’t even consider playing her iconic last shot! in fact with Ontario lying two, Jones may not have had any shot to win! Manitoba didn’t win that game. Ontario lost it! There IS a difference!
Regardless of the strategy of what lead up to it, nothing takes away from the shot being incredible especially under that pressure. That's the nature of sport.
