For all the mechanically challenged people who seem to not understand the path of power transfer. The engine spins the torque converter. When the transmission is in park or neutral the engine is not being put under a load. When you put the transmission into gear with your foot on the brake at an idle at a dead stop the drive shaft does not spin and there is not much load on the engine. Why. Because of the torque converter. You can weld the transmission shafts together and you will have the same load on the engine. Why? Because of the torque converter. It lets the engine rotate when the transmission is locked up. If the engine is put under load when the transmission is in gear at a dead stop and at an idle, it is because of resistance in the torque converter because it is not operating properly. Again. You can weld your transmission gears, sprauges, and shafts together. If the torque converter is good the engine will idle as it should. Gee wiz people.
Looks like it's your injectors that's having issue one of my coworker had the same thing on his diesel truck out of nowhere the vehicle started blowing black smoke and running rough
Unfortunately all you fellas should've got the 6 speed manual , when I had my 2006 with the manual , only issue I had was I had to replace the clutch at 90,000 miles , and that was a fluke deal , never rode my clutch at all , and I looked it up and didn't find any major clutch problems from other owners . My partner at work had the same trans as you in his 2006 and they had to completely rebuild his trans , luckily his was still under warranty . Have heard lots of stories of trouble with your trans .
Hey Steve, A couple of things here. You say you are a 25 year dodge tech. Have you rebuilt every transmission dodge ever produced? TF747? 47RH? 48RE? 57RFE? The TC was a triple disk billet unit. I should add that besides the lugging issue, the transmission shifted perfectly and TC lockup was at the expected speed and RPM. I did sell the truck, so its no big deal..
Umm no... This was a forward sprague issue. If you put a manual truck into 4 low and chained it to a tree then lugged the engine with the clutch, the same thing would have happened.
