If you live in the Rust Belt, internal rust on your new car is inevitable, unless you take extreme measures to apply durable coatings to deeply hidden internal areas before the rust happens, and in order to gain access to all these deeply hidden areas, a full disassembly to bare chassis is required.
At the factory they apply a watery thin dip primer to the body as a bare chassis, because this is the only way to gain full access to all hidden areas, and that is a good start, but it has shortcomings. The first shortcoming is the dip application misses a lot of critical areas. The second shortcoming is the primer itself is not durable because it is too thin to provide long term protection. Even areas that are covered and are not subjected to direct wheel spray will rust thru because the primer coating is weak. Primer is supposed to be a first step, not a final finish.
If I were to buy another new car, I would disassemble it to a bare chassis and apply durable coatings on the entire body shell. If this were done at the factory in the first place that would be ideal, but we all know they just can't/won't do that. If these coatings are not applied then the car will rust from the inside. Unfortunately there is no process that can reach all these internal areas without full disassembly. You can't even see all the areas you need to reach from under the vehicle when it is fully assembled, so taking it to "ziebart" and having them drill holes and shoot it with coatings blind with wand guns may be better than nothing, but it will fail to reach all hidden areas, and every hidden area will rust from the inside.
