We finally are able to diagnose our Land Rover LR3 cooling system issue. It's not overheating due to cooling system failure but actually is a chain reaction. Something is pressurizing the cooling system causing the coolant to be purged out of the system enough that it causes overheating.

No worries, we'll figure out something. Just a little set back... Thanks for watching and the comment!

@@mountainviewsgaragewhat did it turn out to be??

@@ronaldrrootiii6040 It is a blown head gasket. We still have plans to pull the heads off, but unfortunately its dropped to the bottom of the list.

@@mountainviewsgarage wow okay! How did you determine that it was? Did the oil ever get contaminated or the coolant or smoke out the back? Mine has not done any of those but the system pressurizes too much after a bit and even though it maintains a good temperature it starts to want to come out

@@ronaldrrootiii6040 So, there are a couple of ways for a head gasket to fail, most common is where the engine is pulling coolant into the cylinders and that is where you'll see smoke out the exhaust and smell coolant. In this instance, the combustion gasses and pressure are finding their way into the cooling system causing the pressurization. The best way to test for this is the combustion leak test where the fluid will react and change colors if there are combustion gasses in the cooling system. Good luck!

I was playing with this coolant for few months on 2010 Range Rover. Replaced pump, radiator..., finally sold for parts. Everything was ok until you go 80..90 mph and you stop, turn off engine and after start it starts to overheat. combustion gas gets in to the system, makes foam/bubbles and pump didn't move the coolant.

That sounds very similar to what we were seeing. Although we really could never see bubbles in the reservoir tank. It would run great sometimes and other times would over heat within 15 minutes. Now it won't even run for more than 10 minutes before it's pressurizing and pushing all the coolant out. We have plans to pull the heads off and see if just new gaskets will fix it or if its something more severe. We love the truck. Thanks for watching and the comment!

Has there been any development/resolution to the issue?

It needs head gasket and transmission shift solenoids replaced. We found another LR3 that has more features we were looking for and in better shape. So as of today, we plan to put this one up for sale, but if it doesn’t sell once we’ve caught up on some projects we plan to fix it.
