Yep, which makes this Edmonton run the definition of a fluke. Nothing before or after to show it had any real substance. That's why I was so glad Carolina soundly beat them in the Finals.
It looks worse than it actually was. Red Wings record was inflated because of the schedule, and the Oilers weren't a true 8 seed, if they had Roloson all year they probably would've finished 5th. Plus several of their better players were 1-year rentals, most notably Pronger. And, they almost won the cup lol. It was a bad matchup for the Wings in round 1. They were having issues in the playoffs during this era, and the Oilers played them tough during the year. I think they would've beaten Colorado had they played them instead.
At the time, for sure. But that loss gave them the hunger to win it in '08, so it doesn't bother me as much anymore. '07 was an important run for them. A lot of new faces in this era, they needed to learn how to win, just like the teams in the mid '90s did.
@@awood40 I hope we come back soon. Miss the days when u could count on seeing them in the playoffs, the rest of my teams I could not say the same except NFL most times
@@awood40 They should’ve won in 07. Up 2-1 with Pronger suspended, then you have game 5 to make up for it on home ice. The winner of the West was basically the cup winner and they let it slip away
awood, I really appreciate you posting these game highlights (and always have). The 05-06 season was a little before my time as I was 6 years old during this season and hadn't truly started following the wings yet (07-08 was the first year I really started to follow them) so it's cool to see snippets of these games and seeing a relatively young Datsyuk and Zetterberg start to truly blossom. Thank you so much for taking the time for doing all of these videos. Always fun to go back and watch old highlights. By far the best channel on RU-vid for sure.
I highly doubt the majority of my viewers have any interest in reliving those games lol. I think the full games are on YT already, or at least they were at one point.
