Welcome to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we are going to show you how to drain and refill your coolant for 2007 - 2018 Nissan Altimas as well as 2009 - 2022 Nissan Maximas. The reason this works so well for all of these model years is because Nissan used the same exact radiator for the V6s as well as the I4 engines in the Altima. The only things you will need is a big Phillips screwdriver, drain pan (with markings preferably) and new engine coolant. The process is straight-forward but there’s a couple tricks that can help you make sure you get the job done right. If you have any questions please leave a comment below. Thank you for watching and Supporting the Channel!

The drain valve is indeed a removable screw so be careful not to lose it! If you have any questions let us know 😁

Everyone puts what they want but is suggested to put the blue liquid. Thanks next time I’ll do it myself!

Would it be the blue from Nissan or any brand that’s blue?

Thank you so much, glad the video was helpful. The test strips are on Amazon, check out our link in the description. Thanks for watching! 👍

I prefer a different kind of tester myself. It’s one that has a bulb that you squeeze on one end and a little hose on the other. Suck up the coolant and it has a little dial that shows you the threshold of your antifreeze.

Yo trick I want to change the coolant myself but I'm a little worried about properly flushing it. I noticed flushing wasn't done in this video. Do you think I can get by without?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 16 дней назад
You don't have to flush it, just a drain and refill will get most of the coolant out. Thanks for watching! 👍

Question I have a 2015 Nissan. Rogue The over flow bottle is low so should I just put antifreeze in it where it at the level Or do I need to pour some in the thermostat cap area 2
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 3 месяца назад
Either one is fine, usually I use the overflow bottle and make sure that it is between the minimum and maximum fill lines. Thanks for watching! 🙂

@@TrickShiftGarageone question after done with refilling the coolent let the car run untill thermostat open then add more coolemt untill its levels is there air need to get out the system or it ready to go ?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 11 месяцев назад
There is probably some air in the system. Give the upper radiator hose a few good squeezes and they should be pushed out of the radiator neck.
@donnitall

So would you drain the same way if you have a V6? And if so, naturally you’d expect more to drain out, correct?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 5 месяцев назад
Yes, it should drain the same way since Nissan uses the same radiator for the 4 cylinder and V6 models. There should be more fluid that drains out though. Thanks for watching! 👍
@saudiwave

Perfect Is it important to replace all coolant from the engine there is still more 4 liters!!! Or it enough the radiator thanks
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 3 месяца назад
Yes, you could remove the lower radiator hose to drain more out. To completely drain it you'll need to remove the engine block plug which is a pain to get to. It's located on the block by the water pump. Personally, it's enough to drain it like the video a couple times to get most of the old coolant out. Thanks for watching! 👍

Hello. My 2010 Altima's dashboard started cracking due to heat even if I use sunshield. It’s still flexible and does not feel rigid but still cracking. Do you think I can protect it from cracking if I apply silicon spray or vaselin or Armor-All on it? If not, what do you recommend? TY
@michaeldro
@michaeldro Месяц назад
Do not use any kind of armor all product ever. It will only work for the time being, they are greasy and poor products. Instead of buying a whole new dash what you can do, is use said aforementioned spray. Or what I would do is go through a whole process and "re-finish" the cracks using a powder like product. I don't know the name of it but you take the dash out, prep it and use a few things on it then imprint so it keeps the texture and you're good to put it back in.

I have a 2021 Altima. It’s now just 2023, I have driven it for two years, 20k miles. and the coolant is below min line. Is it normal?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 9 месяцев назад
Yeah, it's quite common in my experience. Just top it off to about the mid way between min and max lines and you should be good to go! 😉

@@TrickShiftGarage thank you. I thought the factory coolant will last for 10yrs. I will do that. The service center said they did multi points check. But they never told me it’s this low. Lucky I checked it on my own.

Why is everything I do on this car, I have to look it up? It’s the stupidest car to work on. 1st time I changed the oil on it, it took me 30 minutes to find the oil filter. This is the dumbest radiator drain. Just stupid.

All vehicles have this procedure. On the newer Toyotas you also need to remove a hose that is on top of the engine and keep filling until coolant comes out.
