Welcome to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we will show you how to simply change your oil and oil filter as well as rest your Maintenance Odometer Reset procedures on your instrument panel display. Pulling the vehicle on ramps is usually easier then manually jacking the car up. Just make sure you chock the back wheels to prevent the chance of the car rolling away. Also, if you are relatively new to changing your oil we suggest using safety glasses to prevent any oil from
getting in your eyes, very important. If you have an questions or suggestions, kindly let us know in the comments. Enjoy!

Thanks for making this video to help people save some money and also learn how to do some general maintenance on their vehicles. I've been changing my own oil, on my family vehicles, for decades. I have the same Altima and have a few suggestions. For the copper crush washers on the drain pan, I highly recommend using a new washer every time. They should collapse and cause a good seal as you torque down that bolt. They are available cheap on Amazon and elsewhere. I purchased the dorman brand copper crush washers. There are several to a box, so I have them available for every change. Also, while not completely necessary, I purchased a magnetic drain plug for my vehicle. I wipe this off after every change. This way, if you have any shavings in your oil, it will collect them and not allow recirculation. Lastly, I noticed that you used full synthetic oil. I recommend letting folks know that this is certainly your best bet, use 100 percent full synthetic. It's way better than standard oil. I use synthetic and change mine every 7000-7500 miles. . Never any longer. I think claims of 10000 miles is way too many miles. Mainly I use Mobil 1 but both Valvoline and pennzoil platinum are very good oils too Also, I recommend a quality filter. Most fram are not that good, unless you use the premium fram. I recommend Mobil 1, K&N, wix, Purolator premium, or even the premium super tech/blue can (Walmart) filters.
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage Год назад
Thanks for the advice! I Agree 100%! I should have replaced the copper crush washer and a magnetic tipped drain plug is a great idea too. I willswitch up the oil filter to a premium one going forward. Hmmm, maybe I'll make another video on the best way to changing the oil 😉 thanks for watching and commenting brother, take care!

Hello. I'm coming from Malaysia. We usually use kilometre. I just wonder for example usually EO manufacturer recommend for fully syn interval change 10000km just about 6200miles. But in like how do I say this. Western country, the interval is 10000miles (16000km). Just wondering the fact behind this. Here the EO company not so much different. Good tutorial. I just changed my oil on my Altima. Piece of cake since the filter is easy to gain access. Question for you? Do you know any way to disable the TPMS light on the dash? I guess one (or many) of my tire sensors are bad but I don't give a shit. I just want to disable that light. It's such a useless feature. I check my tires once/month and fill them to 32psi if needed...
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 2 года назад
Thanks Mike! I have the same problem too 😂 It's been lighting up my instrument panel for about the last 100k miles but I've just ignored it and check my pressure the old fashion way too. I'll look into it though! 🍻
@mikeblaz
@mikeblaz 2 года назад
@@TrickShiftGarage Someone is selling a device which will trick the reading of tire pressure and turning out the light for $100...screw that! I asked my mechanic and he said nope, can't disable it. My thoughts are put a small piece of black electrical tape over it or rip apart the instrument panel and disable (smash!) the LED which illuminates the light.
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 2 года назад
Yeaaahhh screw that. The dealer quoted me $200 to replace the sensor in the tire. I said no thanks, and just check my tire pressure in my own. I like your idea, put some tape over it or smash it to bits lol. I'll be removing my instrument panel soon for another project so I'll see if I can figure something out 😉

Can you add a bigger oil filter to keep your engine happier or is just a myth?
@TrickShiftGarage
@TrickShiftGarage 4 месяца назад
I've never heard of that one before so I think it might be a myth. However, after doing a quick Google search out of curiosity, it apparently does help filter a little more oil per minute, which isn't a bad thing lol. Keep in mind you'll have to add a little more oil to your engine too. I do not know what oil filter number is a bigger version of the oil filter this engine uses though lol. Maybe next time, I'm doing a oil change I'll consider this haha. Thanks for watching! 👍

Check your old oil filter and make sure the gasket is still on it, if it came off it could be causing the leak. Also, Nissan didn't do a great job with oil draining from the filter location. It's right above the subframe which is hard to clean up, so that could be something to look into. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!
