Hello from England. Just wanted to say a massive thanks for this video. My drivers door handle broke on my 300 this week. Ordered one from Amazon, and thanks to you had a hassle free fit. Many thanks.
Yeah they seem to be really flimsy. Fortunately when the 300 came to the U.K., they didn’t completely “deamericanise” it. So the lock barrel is still on the same side as it would be in the States, which is my passenger door. So I didn’t have that to deal with which was handy! And you’re welcome. Thanks for taking the time to make the video
Great video, one of the best out there. It took me about three hours to do get it done. The 2005 might have some different hole placements, I couldn’t get to the 8mm bolts with the extension, had to go up through the bottom under the water shield. It was tough trying to twist and turn to reach em. Someone else mentioned that you put the lock mechanism in different on the installation, I only caught it because the lock kept falling out when I was trying to put the bolts in so I went back and watched the beginning and saw that it was in the handle from the outside. All my pen clips broke taking them out, so now I have to find some, hopefully amazon has some otherwise I’m at the mercy of the dealership. Thanks again for taking the time to put this out there, I’m sure there a lot of people who can use it to save some money. Now I have to find a video for the driver side rear door, that one broke first but it wasn’t that serious because it’s pretty much just me riding. When the driver door broke I knew I had to get on it ..peace
Thank you, Gringo - your instructions were very helpful. We just finished this job! It took my wife and I exactly three hours. Here is our post-mortem. Thanks to you, we avoided removing the entire Water Shield, and were able to lift up just the lower half and access everything. We were replacing the front passenger exterior handle. Not having a small ratchet to fit in the tight space was a problem, but we improvised a small Vise grip holding onto the 5/16 socket perpendicularly. Another hassle was with the retaining clips, we fortunately had purchased a kit of assorted retaining Clips to replace the ones I mangled!
Great video, amazed at the rust that is starting. Thirteen year old vehicle, seems manufactures skimp where ever they can. Thank you for sharing. Dealers are charging/quoting hundreds for this replacement. Marion.
This is a great video and really help me fix my car handle and took a lot of the scariness out of it. I do want to point out something that I caught is that when you put the handle back on the Tumblr lock was on the wrong side. I noticed this because during the beginning of your video the lock itself is on the outside of the car door when you put it back together, you put the lock on the inside of the door which still works but it makes the Tumblr area deeper sat inside the lock channel of the handle. I didn’t know if you realized that was a mistake.
I watched this video in hopes to change my handle. my handle has been broken for about 2 years lol, finally bought a new one. I have the same year, but maybe a different model, because I didn't have access to the two M8 screws behind the weather strip. I had to take a cutting wheel to the door to gain access...5:45 into the video. other than that, the video works!
I have been dealing with the same broken handle for about three years now. Definitely a design flaw on the part of Chrysler and a lot of work for a $15 part, but not much to do about that. Your video will make the process a lot easier for sure. My car sits in the garage over this winter, but this spring it will finally be getting a new handle. Thanks for the great video. Nicely done man !! Well it did not happen in the spring but I finally got the job done today. Your video was super helpful. Only issue I had was getting access to things due to my big ass hands which made the job a lot more difficult. My arms look like I was in a fight with a bobcat. But it's done anyway. Thanks again brother.
Hi gringo great video. I’m trying to replace my passenger door and under the weather shield I’ve got like a black plastic insert that won’t allow me to get to the latch rod or bolts, yours doesn’t have this how do I remove it and does it need to be put back in as it looks like the only way to remove it is cut out with a knife
Hello! My chrysler has both handles broken (left and right rear) is it the same process as they way you did it? (your front left door). I am ready to start buying the same tools you used and use your video as my guide just really concerned if anything would be different from the front and rear handles when removing the door. Thank you!
I just broke my handle this morning, I think I contributed it the mishap because I was rushing to work and pulled it from the wrong side of the handle, and I all WAYS handle the handles, like you said, ignition and loard treat the stickshift with all possible care. By the NASA want $76 bucks plus tax,I heard you mention Amazon was the first place I looked.can you tell me or send a link of your purchase. I don't mine spending a lil extra for quality but 76 bucks,he'll I'm thinking bout going to the junk yard.
The only sticking point we have on all the doors is the part where you say just push the wire into the purple plastic piece that holds it in place. HOW the hell do you do that. We've pushing and pushing and the damned thing won't push in and lock. Danged near broke finger tip It is ALWAYS the sticking point. Goddarn but it will not push in. ANY suggestions. we have an o6.
@@5150GringoGarageWe took it out and compared the old one from the broken handle and the new one is definitely thicker and practically immovable. So we are sanding lightly to open the entrance part because even out we couldn't put it in without extreme effort. And having the strength to push them together with just the tip of our forefinger and thumb just wasn't happening in that tiny opening. Plus yours in your video is a sideways push in whereas ours pushes straight towards the front of the door.
@@5150GringoGarageI could have sworn I already posted a reply. Must be losing what little is left of my mind. ANYWAY that worked out perfectly. Just enough to allow the pressure to push the rod in. After that it went relatively easy minus the cussing for the occasional scratch from the metal. Without your video we would probably still be staring at the door after we got the door panel off going"Okay NOW what?" So thank you for the time and videos you put up for all of us who are mechanically challenged. As an aside it wouldn't have killed the companies to have used better materials than the cheaper plastic. Penny pinching is one thing. Like the Pink Thingy that thank goodness mine went out in the garage vs the poor guy whose PT went out in the Jack in the Box fast food window. The replacement piece is made out of nylon material if I remember correctly. It took us about 30 minutes to change it out. Chrysler wanted 300 bucks to change it. And don't get me started on actual time vs "The book says it will take 3 hours" when it actually takes 1. Thanks again. You and all the guys who take the time to put these up and show us how to do it. The Auto companies probably hate you...take it as a badge of honor.
wow what a pain in the ass for such a small thing; I have a 2010 with two doors screwed up; if you left it like this broken would it be okay or with the handle eventually fall off .good work; I'm absolutely dumbfounded that they would use plastic for this .
I thought your video was pretty thorough until I got to the end and realized that I needed an 8 mm swiveling head boxed and wrench to get the broken part ouch therefore I give you a thumbs down I will probably watch more of your videos later on though can actually go get mine but if you have
