Great video! I love how the drain bolt is just about over the frame to ensure the fluid gets all over!!! Frickin' engineers!

I just bought a 2007 Entourage and your videos have helped me a lot. I did both axles, the sway bar links, lower ball joints and outer tie rods. I’m going to do this and the spark plugs over the weekend. Thanks again!

Very helpful video. I have a 2007 Hyundai Entourage (basically the exact same vehicle) and approaching 60,000 miles. I believe the fluid still looks ok but want to do a drain per the maintenance manual recommendations. Have some slight seepage around the seals but nothing drips to the ground so will probably ride with that for a while. thanks for this info!

Great video.. good info..i have a 07 and i didnt have ramps so i just turned the wheels to the left and slid a pan under the trans drain and then i measured what came out with a gallon pitcher that i bought from a resturant supply..Lots of great videos and i admire your persistance...I am not so persistant in my old age but i admire how you think things out.

Well that was nice. Thanks for the information! What a world we live in that we can watch a video like this explaining almost anything we want/need to do!!! 😁 I had quite the giggle 🤭 at the "burping" fart funnel!!! 😆😋🤪 psssttt... If you lift the funnel up a little, it will go in smooth and silent.😉
@themarginalmechanic5928
@themarginalmechanic5928 2 года назад
You know that burping farting issue suggests that the transmission has only a case pressure vent instead of a standard free airflow vent. No other vehicle I've ever worked on has done this.

Okay I just drain n fill on a 2005 sedona. The bolt is not 15/16. It was loose but just able to break bolt loose without stripping. I still dont know exactly what size is but I tried 22mm too small and 24 mm too loose so I'm guessing a 23 mm opened end wrench which I didn't have. It broke loose very easy so even though it's a tight fit to get in there, it can be done. Couple pointers: the bolt will not come out but will sit on cross member and drain just fine. If you want to replace frain plug, you will need to lift transmission up about 1/2 to 1 inch my guess. I marked dip stick with perm marker where the fluid measured on dipstick then drain with fluid at room temperature. Replaced 5.20 quarts. Be safe and use extra support while underneath vehicle. 209,000 miles on this sedona. Runs very good.

A bit late but IT DEFINITELY takes a 15/16 open ended wrench. 23 won’t fit.

@cubedearth3138
@cubedearth3138 3 года назад
When you did the first fluid change. After that is when you had the problem with the torque converter? Mine has 180k on it, I’m worried about problems if too much of that old fluid comes out. Sometimes when the fluid is old that is the only thing keeping it from slipping haha
@themarginalmechanic5928
@themarginalmechanic5928 3 года назад
The reason I began an aggressive fluid change procedure was because there was something odd with the transmission which later turned out to be the torque converter.

You are not right man. It is the filter there. But to change it, you have to take the transmission down, and go inside. The filter you will find inside. This is the reason I am recommending to change the ATF really often, to not dirt up the filter inside. 50 000 km is ideal interval - maximum for me.
@themarginalmechanic5928
@themarginalmechanic5928 4 года назад
Removing the transmission and disassembling it is not a maintenance procedure.
@PureVoice_cz
@PureVoice_cz 4 года назад
@@themarginalmechanic5928 No, it is not. And it is not easy. But if you have a dark ATF (for example after a second hand buy), the "half-change" you are talking about, will not help. The filter you have to change too. And it is inside. But I do agree, better to service the car intime, it means every 40 000 km, 60 000 km as maximum.

My 2006 Kia Sedona has 215,000 miles and runs like a champ. Just changed the fluid for only the third time in it's life. I probably should have changed it more often. I simply to a drain and fill. What is the value of changing the filter? I mean really 215,000 miles and the transmission shifts smoothly. You go ahead and change that transmission filter. I'll just keep draining and filling about every 75,000 and drive it until it drops dead. So far since owning the vehicle (and I bought it with 18,000 miles on it), I've done brakes, tires, oil changes, serpentine belts and a power steering pump and that's it. BTW, the power steering pump is a real bugger to replace. There's a bolt on the back of the pump that is pretty impossible to get to. Darn pump took me 5 hours to do and most of it was trying to get the rear bolt off. As far as the filter, "don't worry, be happy."

Hi Scott, after changing Trans fluid in the 08 Sedona (120K never changed) with Valvoline MaxLife the transmission began to slip. Any ideas? Is there irreversible damage?
@stam9241
@stam9241 7 лет назад
Yes, filled correctly and Fluid was certified SPIII for Hyundai/Kia. Did another drain and fill today and found chucks of black metal shavings at the plug. Van was still slipping intermittently in first gear and finally decided to give the Lucas stop slip a try. Added two bottles; fluid at correct level and 1st gear does not slip anymore unless on a slip hill. Reverse still takes a while to engage and slips, however. It's better than a few days ago. Highway driving is fantastic with firm kickdown and no slippage. I still feel bad because the Van was running superbly with the old/unchanged fluid at 120K. I guess the myth is true for "DO NOT change the transmission oil in an old car that's been neglected. Will keep you posted.

If the trans is going to go, it's going to go. Most trans fail because of heat, mechanical issues, and/or lack of maintenance. Adding new fluid will not help a bad trans, nor for the most part can the correct spec fluid be blamed for trans failure. Had a used 1992 Buick Park Avenue. I removed the trans pan to discover a broken thrust washer. New fluid would not have helped or cured the problem. If you had large chunks of metal on the magnetic plug the fluid did not cause that. Correlation does not imply causation. Similar to one saying synthetic oil causes leaks. The oil didn't cause the leak, it revealed what was already there. I have a used 2003 Toyota Matrix with 83k miles on it. Changed the trans fluid with Castrol Import MV which is specd for T-IV and it runs flawlessly.

My wife's friend (single, older, broke) has an 05 Sedona. She had the power steering pump changed. The mechanic noticed wiring a mouse ate and replaced it. Now, you guessed it, the transmission slams into 2nd then enters 1 gear only limp mode. Her tach stopped working so before I knew the back story I went to change the ignition failure sensor hoping for a long shot that was causing the transmission issues. That's when i noticed all the wiring to the transmission was "new". How the crap can I diagnose the wiring? (The mechanic is playing dumb to the repair now. Well... Not playing)

@@themarginalmechanic5928 i appreciate the reply. He actually spliced wires and ran new ones so the plug has 1 new connectors inside the housing ran with 6 inches of new wire connected to a blob of the original wiring harness. So it's all plugged in the correct ports but I don't know if he mixed up the pins.
