Nice review. I own a 2007 Miata and love it! I've never had any other car that's put a smile on my face like the Miata. The one point that I disagree with in the review is about how fast the car is. It's not necessarily a fast car, so I'll kind of agree with that. But it is damn quick. Off the line, it'll beat many cars. Even beyond that, the Miata is simply a blast to drive and own. They're inexpensive, reliable, and sexy. Every time after I park my Miata, I always look back at it. It's such a great looking little roadster. It's odd in a way, because every time I do drive my Miata, it gets compliments almost anywhere I go. People of all ages have come up to me and my Miata and want to talk about it. It is not my daily driver, but every time I do drive it , I want to drive it more. Get one, I promise you won't regret it.
Sick! Thanks for the comment and glad you're enjoying your car. Maybe the Miata feels slow to me.because I've been driving the Z06 too much lately... :P
Yes Wayne, I have a 2006 3rd generation Limited Edition. I agree w all your comments, as I've owned muscle cars of all types in the past, and the MX5 is a different kind of driving experience. I get a lot of complements as well, and it's not my daily driver. I put on Cobalt exhaust and it sounds great, but not annoying.
Just bought one last week. That place makes sense for the fuel door, cause it's behind the locking compartment. Otherwise people could potential break in and pop your gas cap and siphon out your gas. It's an anti theft precaution.
'06 owner here. Love my standard convertible top. Electric tops are for someone else. The fewer buttons, the lower maintenance. Lowering the top takes about 3 seconds. Replacing electric motors and linkages...People complain about the engine not being fast. It'll get you from zero to signing a ticket fast enough. Handling? Fasten your seat belts boys and girls. Enjoy the ride.
Of the '06 cars, would you recommend the 2 litre version over the 1.8 ? I may be about to buy a 1.8 version and dont want to wish Id gone for the 2 litre👍
@@ketchup5344 probably not going to make a huge difference in day to day driving. If you're chasing lap times or something you'll notice the 200cc difference tho!
@@valausgarage7318 Thanks!! Since I posted that last message I finally went for an ' 06 2L NC in shiny grey. Its in mint condition and Ive been driving it every day for nearly 3 months now since I got it-although it's the standard car(although with funky aftermarket wheels and sports exhaust) I couldnt be happier, infact its fair to say Im absolutely in love with it!! Thanks for your response 👍
I have a 2008 NC with the PRHT and it's great. A hundred and twenty thousand miles and the top has never failed. I don't worry about someone knifing my top or having to replace the top.
My NC2 is my daily driver, so I needed to have the hard top. I lubricate mine every 6 months or so. You can find the lubrication points online. 144k miles and no problems so far.
Fast forward to 2023....and I bought one of these here in Northern Ireland. I love it. Does exactly what it claims to and is the most motoring fun I've ever had. A mod I did which is so simple is a leather steering wheel cover. The wheel was very smooth through wear so this undoubtedly helps my grip and control. It's winter here so the roof still goes down when it's not raining. A warm hat is a must over here....Great, straightforward review Michael 👍🏻I endorse it 100%.
@Victor Martinez I've had it for 3 months now and 0 issues. And I'm constantly thrashing it about and using it as my daily in sun and rain. I'd try avoid the soft top version though. I've had about 4 leaks that I've had to try fix and even now theres constantly wet floor mats
@@SubwayTutorials ,,, take a real thick firm wire / coat hanger and try an unplug the rear drain tubes on each side . Must be done when top is down an not locked so you can get to it . It's kinda behind the headrest . You'll see like a plastic water catch tray , you'll see a small hole , try an wiggle the wire down about 10 inch .
Thank you! It's definitely not quiet and the car overall does not have a ton of sound dampening in general. Fine for normal commute use, but doing a long highway roadtrip wouldn't be the most comfortable
I own a Miata 2002 since 2013..... and I love my red Convertable...... I use it for about 6 months every year.... She is my pride and joy....!!!!! BRAVO to Mazda for building the most popular sports car in the World...!!!!
Stop comparing the Miata to other cars! It's a Miata. It's in a class all of its own! It incomparable! Once you comprehend that you will understand what it's all about! It's a vehicle that brings pleasure to the driver, the passenger is an accessory only. (My girlfriend is an accessory? )
There is a plastic piece under the passenger foot well that can be removed to give extra foot room.....my son is 6'5" and helps him fit when he's the co-pilot
I have an nc1, 6 speed, lsd, strut tower brace, etc. I think the steering feel is excellent and question whether I would be equally satisfied with the steering feel in the ND. Any views from others on the comparative steering feel of the NC vs. ND would be appreciated.
Wow you payed $8,000.00 for for that then I got a really good deal. I bought a 2006 NC MK3 in excellent condition with 40,000 miles for $4,000, and it's never been wrecked. But I really like that color.
Yeah that's a great deal - congrats! I probably paid about market price for mine out here in Southern California at the time in 2017 - convertibles tend to hold value really well out here!
Owned an earlier version, loved it. Thinking of buying this model with retractable hard top, like the looks & practical design. Not a big fan of the plastic dip/coating pieces, but I get it. Thanks for your review
I bought my 2008 a few months ago. I had watched several reviews before I bought it from the owner, but no one talked about the release for the fuel cap door. On the way home I needed to fill up and I just couldn't find the way to open that door. After I got annoyed enough I just went to youtube and searched it. I would never have found it on my own. It was also after sunset. That didn't help. :D
The OEM ones have a bad tendency to crack and break at the base then flop around in the wind, I've replaced mine only to have it fail a few months later so I grabbed the stubby for that reason alone
Actually mpg is pretty much unaffected while cruising at 70-75, still getting in the high twenties. At first I thought the same though until I drove mine for a while.
The Miata was designed for high rev short gears. It’s really one more thing that makes it so nice. I used to just downshift from 6th but now I just punch it.
Great review...just become the proud new owner of a 2007 Miata in Stormy Blue! Do you have any particular recommendation for a smartphone holder? Is your phone attached to the dashboard or in the air or CD vent?
Cant you regain some ride quality by going to smaller rims and using a bigger tire. My NB came with 17 inch MSM rims and they drove like champions but i had to butter up my ride by going down to 15s
I have a Genny and I want a Miata so bad 😂😂 idk why. People say they’re slow and I’m use to race every person out there so idk. I’ll go see one sometime this week. Hopefully we can get to something:)
Do you guys know if the 6 speed version of the Miata NC came to Europe? I've been trying to find a used one in Germany and I couldn't find a 6 speed version, only the 5 speed one. Thank you!
I owned an NC Miata for several years. I think they are really good cars. Of course, your average Toyota Camry will beat you in a drag race every time. And going at highway speeds was a tiresome ordeal. But on the bright side, the Miata was fantastic on curvy mountain roads. Just brilliant.
i got the copper red 2007 hard top my q is my cluster light that shows the miles stays on all the time is it supose to do this i just got the car last month, didnt notice it
RockStar hey there! It's actually just a factory hardtop that was available as an option on NC Miatas... All I did was spray it black for cosmetic reasons. Cheers!
I had no idea - now that I think about it, I was in Europe a couple weeks ago and saw a bunch of NC Miatas but none of them had a power retractable hardtop... maybe it was a US only option? They're not uncommon here in California, but I'm really not sure!
I've got the 2009 1.8 se, there's plenty of legroom, better than I thought, 49k miles, is there anything I need to be aware of, or is this a good solid, well built and reliable car? I do find when about to drive off in 1st gear I have to increase the rpms more when letting the clutch pedal up to stop what feels like it may stall if that makes sense, is this normal? I've heard it's quite a revvy engine. Otherwise once it's going it's great to drive and pretty nippy for a 1.8 5 speed.
It's a pretty reliable car as long as you keep the drivetrain making stock power. Miatas are a staple at track days for good reason, and I have yet to see one break down even when they are abused. It does require a few rpms to take off quickly due to the small engine - should be normal. I doubt a 49k Miata would have many issues, though I'm certainly not a mechanic!
I'm 6'1 with long legs, I have the seat back as far as it can go and leaned back as far as possible and it just happens to be perfect in that position. Lucky me :)
Nope - as far as I know this Miata has pretty much only been driven in Southern California. We don't get snow here ever so rust normally isn't an issue
HI! Love the review! Do you still have this car? I am thinking of importing one from Japan, a 2006 model and also a retractable hardtop. What would you say the reliability of this car? I have an Volswagen Eos before (hard top 4 seater convertible) and it was money pit! spent about 5k on repairs on it, owned it for 2 years, put under 20,000kms since owning. And it only had 109,xxx kms when I got it...
Thanks for the comment and for watching! I do still own it - Miata's are known for being extremely reliable and the NC is no exception. I've done about 20,000 miles on the car in the last 4 years, and have taken it around a track a good number of times too, and there have been no issues. The only thing I've done to it are oil changes. The car is so light its very easy on the brakes and tires too
I like the car as much as the predecessors and its successor - they've just fallen out of fashion a bit for now but will mature to classic status in a few years. Your car is in an incredible condition and the paint really shines! I'd buy one - if I fit in.... alas, I'm 6'4"/1,90 m tall so my head would be too close to the windscreen frame 🥺
I have the 2015 Club edition of this car thanks for pointing out the trunk feature sometimes when I go to the bar I'll leave my everyday carry handgun in the trunk that tip helps
