Had my doubts about drilling out exhaust but bit the bullet and did it. It has nice tone and most of the chugging on the bottom end is gone. glad that I made the decision to do this instead of buying a set Of $5oo pipes.
It’s been several years but I think the drill extension was 8” or so and the hole saw was 1 1/2”. Look through the other comments, someone had mentioned that there is another baffle a little farther in. I didn’t go back and try that because I liked the sound the way it was.
You just went through the first outside layer? At first startup it sounding bad (maybe your metal plug moving around) but after 1-2 seconds it sound much better, Still wondering if you lost some torque and fuel mileage
Yes, that is correct but someone mentioned below that there is another baffle about 6"-9" further in. You are also correct, the metal plug didn't come out with the hole-saw, but after I cranked it, it blew it our. No noticeable loss in torque or fuel mileage.
@hansjrdejong Seems that It has picked up a couple of mpg, but it has rained so much since the mod, that I haven't checked it. I did ride the Tail of the Dragon and a 150 mile loop a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get to run the gas down to get a good reading, not many gas stations so we had to fill up when we saw one, LOL, and the high altitude messes with the fuel/air mixture also.
Its that easy? 1 1/2 inch hole saw with a drill bit...where do you buy that? I checked home depot and the have the hole saw but not one where you can attach a drill bit at the end.
yep, that easy. The hole saw should have a threaded hole in the back (opposite the teeth), and you can buy an arbor that threads into this hole and the arbor has a hole and a set screw so that you can insert a 1/4" drill bit and the set screw holds it in place. You can also buy an extension at Home Depot that will attach to the drill bit.
@hansjrdejong As for performance, she seems to have a little more "off the line" get up, but I didn't ride it much before the mod. Couldn't stand the quiet pipe.
