I owned one. Had to replace the transmission at 100k. A few other breakdowns. The specially made front tires get chewed up quickly if you like to have fun. Bad gas mileage...292 miles per fill up. But it was a BEAST!!!!! Totally worth it. LOOOOved that car. Huge power, loved that sound, loved the looks. The driving experience is a vacation that never ends. Miss it!!!!!!
None of you give this car enough credit. It is truly the mark of the end of an era. I own this exact car, it is luxury and muscle combined and probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned and it still turns heads. Love my GP GXP!
I love your "down to earth reviews" honestly who can afford all these exotic supercars you have. Diversity is key or else we'd all be the same and boring.
What's with all the hate on this car? The Pontiac Grand Prix was an awesome car. Sure it doesn't look like a Corvette, but this car isn't anywhere near the ugliest. The only thing ugly on this car is the paint, and yes it is a very boring silver/metallic grey color. This car in burgundy or black would be nice looking. I have a 2004 Grand Prix GT1 and it runs amazingly at almost 200k miles. The 3800 series III V6 engine (200hp) is one of GM's best engines created, which was also in a lot of Buicks as well. Pontiac was an iconic brand dating back from the 1960's. I will always cherish and keep my Pontiac for when it becomes a classic years from now, and maybe Pontiac will come back one day. The 2000's was a scary decade for the economy in the US, which effected GM cars, including Chevrolet. The Aztek was an absolute failure, but the the Grand Prix, GTO, and G8 basically carried Pontiac until they lost their money from a decline in sales. Pontiac will come back one day, with a new leader that will hopefully make better financial choices.
Well said i loved these cars since i was a little kid first time i went car crazy bout this particular car, was when my uncle brought one back in the day my uncle had a 1978 SJ ,with the half top black with red pinstripe came with 301 engine and the golden honeycomb wheels, leather interior, fully loaded then he dumped the 301 for an cammed out 350 with headers and dual exhuast, one winter the engine block cracked in 88, so when i was in high school i took automobile mechanics just so i could fix it back in 92 but my grandfather sold it before me and my friend finished the job.man i really loved that car still now when i see videos like this it reminds me of that good ole grandie,20+yrs later im still searching for 78-79 sweet old school body, had a 92 GP SE with 3.1 it was ok but still didn't get that same feeling when i had chance to own a 1978 SJ.
I hope someone buys Pontiac back and brings the cars back. Could do a relaunch of cars like Grand Ams , Grand Prix , G6 , G8s and maybe the classics like GTOs , Trans Ams , and so on. I’m sure people would love to buy the cars again.
@@nodak81 Actually pontiac outsold buick, they just started getting sales towards the end of their life span. Buick was just more steady and they believed that was more promising then pontiac skyrocketing then dying and those sales just going up and down repeatedly.
I really love the looks of these cars! As an LS4 owner and guru, ive driven the GXP, my buddies monte carlo SS, and my two buick lacrosse supers! The cousin car to the GXP. They share the exact same suspension setup, trans minus the tapshift and obviously the same engine! The supers are definitely the true sleepers of the 4! No one suspects grandpas buick with a 5.3 to smoke a V6 or even a 5.7 hemi R/T charger or challenger. They can run them down!
I'm with you, I think the exterior design is kinda sexy looking and his GP has very nice curves that blend together well. The interior is passable for me. I just wish those climate controls weren't so damn small. But I would still buy one.
I owned one for a year and during that time. . The power steering went on me, battery died had to replace it and the Transmission had to be rebuilt. It was great fun while it ran properly. It was just so rare that it did.
I'm normally a big fan Kyle... But today you killed me saying this class started in the mid 2000s. My 97 Grand Prix GTP begs to differ. GM has always tried to inject a little performance into all their platforms. The GXP was simply the ultimate realization of the platform... Which is heavily unchanged since the early 90s. I'd even line up my 97 and this 08... And show you what the 90s hid.
Just took one in on trade at the dealership I work at. The previous owner took extremely great care of it. Has 146k miles one it, though you think it just rolled off the assembly line.
I own an 05 Grand Prix GT. Got 115k km on it and all i changed is one break Calliper. Impressive reliability and Engine power. I love the interior and exterior design. The design highlight the progress of the American car at the time.
GlassStatus All there cars where cool every brand like the Aztec was ugly but also ballsy and that’s what I loved about Pontiac they didn’t build cars to meet people’s demands they just had fun with it. Maybe that was there downfall but they sure made unique cars
As a owner of a base 2006 Grand Prix, I must say that it is an extremely reliable car with a lovely exterior styling and steadfast 3.8 V6 that wil get the job done and perform great when it is needed. The plastic interior sucks, though that seems to be only real flaw to the overal package. I wish Pontiac was still scouring the plains with it's arrowhead glinting off the sunlight, who knows what kind of cars it could have on the line if GM took a serious note to distinctly design every car to be different from each other and the other sibling brands. With the Chevy SS and the Impala, it looks like GM is back to it's old trick of rebadging Holden to make easy money....
GM puts a V8 in a front drive Cadillac and nobody bats an eye. GM puts a V8 in a front drive Olds Aurora and nobody bats an eye. GM puts a V8 in a front drive Grand Prix and everyone loses their minds. If someone wanted a balls to the wall racecar, they wouldnt buy this car. This is a car you can drive year round and have a little bit more fun with than a V6 GP.
SuperSportSS it probably doesn't help that along with the Monte Carlo & Impala these were the models for GM's NASCAR race cars Which of course had a manuel tranny, V8 engine size & RWD
You are one of my favorite youtubers and i hope you keep on doing these videos and im sure alot of people make their decisions on what car theat the want to buy.
GM Engineer #1: Hey lets chuck one of our V8s into our midsize sedans! GM Engineer #2: Great but don't forget we have very low standards and don't care about what customers want so let's be sure to make the power route to the front wheels and let's put one of our garbage 4 speed automatics into it too!
RigginTheRod010 Find where I said the engine was bad. A GM V8 motor is solid because of it's simplicity hence why people throw Chevy 350s in their cars. You might be a special ed since you can't read.
Hey Saabkyle! I'm from Germany and love watching your Videos! Very informative and detailed as always. Is there a Chance (after you decided to review the GXP and LaCrosse Super) that you could take a closer look at the LS4 Chevy Impala SS or at least the Monte? I personally love my 06 Impala SS - Imported it a couple of Years ago alongside my Silverado. Prefer this over any German Overpriced Sedan any day of the Week. I might be slightly biased though... always loved GM Products. Anyways, W-Body Cars are awesome + that LS4 allows for a comfortable and smooth ride everytime and that's all that matters to me. Thanks again for another great Video. Keep up the good work! :)
That 5.3L V8 is perfectly capable of more power. They purposely detuned them to put less strain on the transaxle. I can see why they wanted to make it a fwd but even 300hp is really pushing it for that transaxle. And 300 after they detuned it
Mine is burgundy, and I also can do my entire dash. 175 is the fastest I've gone in mine . Idk what the previous owner did to it , but it's a beasttttt
Kyle can you PLEASE ban Europeans from commenting on videos about American cars? I'm sick and tired of all their ignorant "facts" anti-American hate, and top gear fueled stereotypes. "Oh it cant turn" "oh such cheap interior" "oh big v8 and still slower than euro 4cyl" "oh its impractical" "i don't understand ugly american car". SHUT UP.
You shouldn't build such bad cars and we wouldn't laugh at you embarrassing attempt at automotive design. Please never change. Because we will always be superior to America.
You do know that in this video you put ALOT of strain on the starter right? It's a turn and release not a hold.... I have this exact year and that's how I took my starter out. I have to say I truly love this car, how ever gm no longer makes the rims for it as they are stock 18" wide back narrow front... and sadly ppl steel them off the car
I would like to point out that is in fact the base option for the stereo. There was a 6 disc cd changer (what I have in my 04 GTP) and a ghetto (we're talking mid 2000's here) Touchscreen Navigation system. With the nav system, HUD would provide nice turn by turn navigation... which I believe is impressive considering the unit dated back to 2005
Wow 100,520 miles? I was expecting something more like 50 thousand. The car doesn't really show much wear. Also, cool car, even though it will get a ton of hate.
I have a 2002 grand prix gtp and it ran like a dream. No engine troubles. Reved lined it almost everyday too. Still ran like a dream. Eventually gave it up because the brake lines were about gone and since pontiac went bye bye, too expensive for an 02. Still get car tho
The Monte Carlo 2000s and Pontiac 2000s production generations where the cars of my childhood. I've own a 2000 monte carlo damn thing was smoother than butter and I wish we still made cars like those with all the features and quarks it's lovely. Also why if you people hate this car and American cars so much are even bothering to leave a comment. I'll take a monte carlo or a Pontiac of yesteryear than some of these new Euro or Ameican cars.
well first off this video is 5 years old...and 2nd good luck finding a low mile gxp for 6k thats not on its 2nd trans or about to be....maybe one with like 150k miles for $6k
flexor212000 They weren't the most updated things, but they had potential. I think it could have been something really special today if Pontiac was still around
***** The G8 GXP with the manual deserves its own video. That was one helluva car. With the Holden interior it was nicer than some of the Cadillac interiors of the time.
Everyone wants the Pontiac Grand Prix GXP. A stunning looking car with a 5.3L V8 engine and 4 Speed Automatic Transmission. It can make it up to a Top speed of 160 MPH or 280 KM/h.
All the hate comments... you cant admit having a ridiculous amount of torque in a FWD car doesn't sound fun? Ridiculous amount of torque compared to a honda of course.
I think Acura pretty much has the FWD performance market mastered. 2008 Acura TL-S has 286hp from a 3.5 V6 but still launches faster than this pontiac. Handles better too im sure.
I am sorry but the high quality of this TL is hard to beat. I don't understand why American cars are so cheap in and out, and is even a challenge to even find a trunk button where you expected to be. And they aged fast too.
***** Couldnt agree more man! Not to mention they lose power really fast over time. Much faster than anything japanese. By this time, Lexus and Hyundai were getting 400+hp from a 5.0liter V8 and this is pushing 305hp from a 5.3L? Its pretty ridiculous when you think about it lol.
MrJonnyspike Lucky! Im still trying to track down a TL-S 6mt in my price range. Im sure you know by now your getting the most under rated car of all time right?
I'm seeing them at various prices. I'm interested in anything that is 120,000 miles or less. And I sure do know its one of the most underrated cars ever. I've been looking for one these for about three years now. I'm finally in grasp to buy one. All I gotta do is sell my current car first, which is an 2004 nissan sentra lol.
alot hate on this car but I just bought a 2008 I have to replace a power steering pump and some minor things. but this car has so much power and speed I love it
Very typical looking inside GM car. That said I like it, and would enjoy the 300HP I'm sure. I've been on a foreign car kick for the last 11 years, but will probably go back to American on my next car.
Stick with German or Japanese. These American cars are junk. The interior looks like it's from 1998, not 2008, LOL. Not to mention this thing is super ugly.
Bryan Kendall This generation Grand Prix wasn't the best looking inside or out, I'll agree with that, but it wasn't junk. They don't have a reputation for being poorly assembled or unreliable. Try again.
you seen the comment that dubdub made, this person said he/she found one for $2200, that cant be the V8 GXP model maybe base or sports coupe, for that price something's definitely wrong with it for just $2200.
a 2002 Pontiac grand prix would be 2200 not well a 2008 09 in my area are like 6500-8200 if it has low miles and is in great condition the higher the price is
